Recommendations for a Kitchen Gas Torch?

I'm looking for a decent, but cheap-ish gas torch for the kitchen, for searing, wok-hei, and perhaps the odd brulee. Any suggestions (preferably on ebay)?

I recommend the ones that work with disposable butane cartridges @$9.95

Same. $4.50 for a 3-pack of butane cartridges at Kmart.

Dan will be banning those soon.

        • Stock up now, and then profit

          • @87percent:

            and then profit

You think there'll be a black gas market?

        • Ahh jv, the Dan hater can't help himself.

            the Dan hater

            Dan hater ?????

              Yeah you….

                @JimmyF: I think you're imagining things…

    • Just adding to that, maybe get one with an adjustable knob also to control the flame. I don't think the ones with an adjustable knob cost that much more.

maybe get one with an adjustable knob

The one in the link already has that…

        • Oh good spotting. I thought the orange button was just the push button for the spark.

    • Can I just say how wild is this right.. 9.95 free shipping, if that’s located in Australia what’s the profit margin on these ? Like a $1?

      • SAVE UP TO 5% WHEN YOU BUY MORE

        if that’s located in Australia

I've got one of these and it's fine for Crème Brûlée https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-12-…

      PITA to refill though, right?

      • +2

They're very easy to refill with the same gas cannister thing I use to refill lighters

      • Nah there's a little valve on base of the unit, just like the butane ciggie lighters

      Product is packed in Australia

      Wow
      Australian packed too !!!

I have one too, but want one with a bigger flame.

What is this, a blowtorch for ants?

The ALDI ones work well and I think they're coming around again soon

Why get a 60g refillable when a cartridge holds 220g?

      • Now i see your link above, they look good. The ALDI ones are smaller, that's about the only advantage I guess.

      • You can fill it with any butane lighter refill, you don't need to use a 60g bottle - that's just the one that comes in the pack

        • +1

$6 for a 300ml butane lighter refill vs $4.50 for 3x 220ml butane cartridges. I mean you can refill out of the butane cartridges but you need to get an adapter and also it's a PITA when compared to slapping the torch onto a new can.

@Cheaplikethebird: Yep, I lost the tiny red adapter, so takes some creativity to refill mine. I looked online (maybe my search terms are not correct?) for a replacement adapter and the cost to buy is not worth it, or I have to buy multiple when I just want one…

    • I have one of those, but the flame is too small.
