Cannot stand polyester socks personally, I've bought these before and wouldn't again.

    • You've bought these same Dickies Dritech Advanced Moisture Wicking Crew Sock or just polyester socks?

There's a big difference with wicking socks that are designed to keep your feet dry vs just any polyester sock.

For years, I've used similar polyester wicking socks on long hikes. (Often as first layer under another sock to avoid blisters.) Certainly improved my comfort & dealt with smell on multiday hikes.

      Stinky plastic thermals 30 upvotes
Has been similar hate of hiking polyester thermals. Pointed out in that Deal the thermals specially designed to wick moisture away from skin - with heavy physical activity (eg hiking, climbing) are very different to polyester clothes people are used to & avoid.
Only the few experienced in use of the hiking thermals agreed. I wear those exact thermals - eg on 12 day through hike in Tasmanian mountains.

      Wouldn't buy ordinary polyester clothing.

      • All polyester can be referred to as "moisture wicking" - it's an inherent property of the fabric (because it is hydrophobic).

I agree with OP. I like polyester body clothes but not for socks - make my feet sweat, and because they are hydrophobic, I then slide around in my own socks. It's different to a shirt that has a high surface area exposure to air, to let sweat evaporate off - once your feet and socks and shoes are wet, that's it, they remain that way until you take everything off. In other words - socks inside shoes, particularly hiking shoes, have nowhere to "wick" to.

There needs to be some cotton, so I've settled on blend socks - you get the reliable fit, drying speed and longevity of polyester, with some absorption from cotton. Personal recommendation is this company on Amazon, shipping out from US. They appear to be Chinese but their socks are very good for my daily needs; I don't use them for sport, I use 100% cotton for sport.

        • So you've never worn socks made from specifically designed wicking material? Just polyester socks. That was my point.

That's the opposite experience to mine when wearing polyester socks specially designed for sweat control - on physically demanding long hikes.
I swear by the wicking of those (different brand) polyester socks. At the end of a long hike, my feet are in so much better condition - for wearing those socks.

They are polyester, but manufactured differently to have higher wicking ability. The material has suitable named trademarks & data to show that ability.

As I said, those who use the high wicking material with physically demanding (sweaty) activities certainly know the difference.
Those who haven't worn it claim the opposite… based on their experience with polyester not processed to improve wicking.

But I wear mainly natural fibre clothes for everyday use. Never polyester. Bought 1 polyester shirt - never wore again as was so sweaty in humid summer.

As I already have good wicking socks, don't know the quality of the wicking with these, am a male & don't need women's socks - I'll pass😉

          • @INFIDEL: Mate I told you, all polyester is wicking.

            • @jirskyr: Yes. And as I said…

There a big difference between ordinary polyester & polyester specially manufactured into technical fabrics to enhanced properties like wicking. Popular with those into (sweaty) outdoor pursuits

They're both shown as made from polyester, but there's a world of difference to the wearer!

But here, people just think all material manufactured from polyester is the same😜

Might want to put 'Women's' in the title.

  • I've bought Dickies before. I find they fit like compression socks. Not a bad thing.
