2019 Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 3 Bottles for $1620 ($540/Bottle) Delivered @ Skye Cellars (Excludes NT & TAS)

81

Bin 707 perfectly reflects the Penfolds ‘House Style’ through a cabernet sauvignon lens: intensely-flavoured fruit; completion of fermentation and maturation in new oak; expressing a Penfolds understanding of multivineyard, multi-region fruit sourcing.

Full-bodied and with proven cellaring potential, Bin 707 retains a secure place among the ranks of Australia’s finest cabernets.

I like a nice drop but $540/bottle? Even if it is the best price ever for this particular bottle, I'm sure that in a blind tasting that some people would favor something costing 1/10th of the price. Good on you if you can afford it, but this is not a bargain.

    • +9

Its a bargain if it is substantially cheaper than the normal price.

Just because you can't afford it doesnt mean it's not a deal.

People go all crazy over a slight drop in price on Apple products worth thousands of dollars so what is the difference here?

    • +3

      That's poor thinking….
Just because something is not on your price range (And it's not on mine either) doesn't mean it's not a bargain.
What you are saying is that if Ferrari discounts their car from one million dollars to two hundred thousands, it's not a bargain because you can't afford it.
But there a lot of people out there that can and think it's a GREAT bargain.
      All the best.
      Cheers.

  • Looking forward to drinking this with a pizza on Friday night ;)

I've got a couple of these stored away somewhere from around 20 years ago. What are they worth?

    • According to @frugalfreddy not much because he can't afford them.
      LOL
      Cheers

      • Oh my

        https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_913527/penfolds-bin…

        I think I paid around $80 a bottle.

        • Are you trying to piss off @FrugalFreddy?

          • @Skye Cellars: No, I seriously have 2 bottles of 707 stashed away somewhere. Split a dozen with some friends many, many years ago.

            • +1

@jv: Look at prices on Langtons. Penfolds wines are some of the few that appreciate in value.

      • -1

That's quite presumptuous of you @Skye Cellars, and also incorrect. Just because I'm frugal does not make me poor. I suggest you read https://www.amazon.com.au/Millionaire-Next-Door-Thomas-Stanl…, and you might change your attitude. Then again you might not, LOL's about someones lack of wealth doesn't make you come across as a nice human being.

        • Oh Freddy, come on.
We both know that the LOL was about the Poor Thinking on you part.

          • -2

@Skye Cellars: @Skye Cellars, you mentioned me not once but twice. Thought you were on a winner did you? You're representing a business, yeah? Not doing a very good job of it. Can't hear your poor attempt at an apology/justification over the music playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no6-vsHgHJg.

            • +1

@FrugalFreddy: There is no attempt made. As there is nothing to apologise for.
              Enjoy your music.
              Cheers

@Skye Cellars: You're only reinforcing my opinion of you. The music is quite an earworm isn't it!

Cracking wine. 2021 vintage is superb already.

  • whats a private cellar ?

    • "I'm your private cellar, a cellar for money
I'll do what you want me to do…."

    • +1

A cellar you have no acces to.

  • Pretty sure I paid around $180/bottle for 707 only a couple years ago.

    Perfect for the bolognese.

    • Grange is better for bolognaise sauce

  • Certainly one of the more economical options
