Do not get this overpriced dash-camera. The latest is Sony Starvis 2 sensor. A139 pro (Starvis 2) from Viofo is much better camera with a lower price point.

    • +4

I strongly disagree.. I've tried two different Viofo cams, and they were horrible. (constantly corrupting SD Cards, clunky to use, takes forever to transfer a single captured video)

Yes BlackVue are much more expensive, but it's a classic case of you get what you pay for.

      • +5

I don't have either but a couple of videos I've seen recently suggested A139 is a better choice though.

A139 is 100% a better camera than the one here. I was just trying to point that out.

        • I understand that it's easy to call them better value, when the only thing taken into consideration is the price.

But having owned Viofo's, and now pwning three BlackVue's, it's honestly chalk and cheese.

They need to do a real world comparison when the Viofo is out of warranty, and dying.

          A BlackVue 750G comes with a 5 year warranty

          • +3

@Shaquille Oatmeal: Well that's it, I've had four Viofo's: A118C2, A119, A119 v2, A119 v3 all without issue and never corrupted in the heat. Have always been pretty good and long with their firmware support too.

That being said, YMMV and i totally get why someone would get a Blackvue because also of their support and reliability.

The Hook Up also did a recent one including the performance of the DR970X compared to other current options https://youtu.be/lzdxCOvPq5Q?si=PZKsF0dBcG8obzE-

          • @Elyxar: Very nice comparison, I've just got the Nexus 4 Pro so excited to try that out

@adrianhughes1998: Rob does very thorough comparisons of a lot of things tech. Well worth the watch.

It used to be a case of you get what you pay for. But more and more features are being locked behind a subscription.
I own one of these but would not recommend them on subscription model alone.

        • What subs are required for decent access ?

I don’t have any subs and I’m fine

    • +5

      100%.

BlackVues are good but they are insanely overpriced.

    • +3

Strongly recommend everyone watch this video from Linus Tech Tips before purchasing a dashcam. Almost all of these companies use the same processor and other components inside of them.

        • +5

I am aware of the drama. However my point regarding Black Vue camera being overpriced and still charging more for an older Starvis 1 sensor. Here is a link for a much better 3 Channel dashcam with Starvis2 sensor for under 500 delivered with coupon

            • @[Deactivated]: Blackvue warranty was great when I had to use it. Bought a battery pack and didn't install it for a year and a half. Installed it and there was a dead cell in the battery. Even though it's out of warranty, they replaced it for me.

        • +1

It still doesnt discredit everything he has done, people make mistakesand he has been a great contributor to the tech community.

    • Another Starvis 2 option is the https://thinkware.com.au/products/u3000 which has recently come out. More on it at https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/u3000.410/

$1,000 dashcam with no screen what so ever

    • +7

Some people (including myself) prefer no screen for a dashcam. The smaller and less noticeable the better. It is expensive though, yes. The A139 pro mentioned above is likely better value.

    • It says $719.20

      • Having your mobile phone in a windscreen suction cradle is fine, you have nothing to worry about RE dash camera screens.

      • +2

It's illegal to look at a screen on your windscreen while you are driving

Just wondering how you use your GPS if you can't look at it?

You must not drive with a digital screen on if you can see it, or it could distract another driver, unless you’re using it as a driver's aid. In this case, it must be in a holder fixed to the vehicle or built into the vehicle.

        That's from https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-s…

Pretty sure you can find the relevant information for your state with a quick search.

Maybe check the rest of the road rules whilst you're there as it's probably worthwhile for you to become a bit more familiar with them if you're going to make these sort of statements to others as though it is a fact.

    • +2

Personally I don't care about a screen. I care about a reliable sync to my phone and/or cloud in parking and driving mode.

    • Why you need screen though? So you can look at it and know where you going?

little cheaper through their eBay store code PLUSAUGSNS extra $50 off, ops deal isn't discounted, but his model is
    BlackVue 4K UHD 2CH IR WIFI GPS Dash Cam 64GB - DR970X-2CH-IR-64 $700.60 delivered

    • Thank you! I initially order the 770x for c. $600 off ebay from AutoOne but just ordered the 970x for c. $676.

Don't forget 12% cash back from Topcashback!

    • The IR is intended for Uber/Taxi river to record in the vehicle, best to get the standard DR770X if you want to use it in the rear, its the same price

  • +2

I bought a Blackvue about 4-5 years ago on sale, it was a front only camera.
The software is kinda annoying, but the pictures are kinda okay and still works fine.
We needed a cheap second car so I bought a A139 Duo/Pro? (with front and rear) from fleabay.
That was easier to get running and easy to access the SD card.
    So as always, YMMV

  • +2

I feel like this far surpasses the cost of a gold standard dash cam, this is excessively expensive.

  • looks like it might be cheaper here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325712233816 after shipping if you have ebay plus as opposed to waiting for the cashback.

  • My concern is the installation.

Anyone know about that, I wonder Autobarn install for us or not. As my location in SE, monash area.

    Thank for your information!

Are people really spending this kind of money on a dash cam? 🤣

    • +3

no most sensible people buy Viofo, much better sensors at a practical price…Now i am awaiting the influx of negs coming my way from the Blackvue fanboys :D

      • +1

check the amount of votes on Viofo vs Blackvue…. seems like Viofo is OzBargain favorite..
i've had mine and no issues
just got a new car and tossing up paying $$ for extra spec Blackvue, but Viofo actually has a better sensor and much cheaper, and still reliable… sooooo….. prob Viofo :D

        • Had a viofo in my last 3 cars. Image is great, reliable and cost effective. Runs a capacitor so don't have to worry about dead batteries.

    • +1

All my cars I have a viofo a119v3, usually grabbed them when it's $130-$160 including hardwire kit and SD cards then spend a saturday arvo installing. These are fronts only though
