You might want to actually hold off until they start charging the $5 joining fee, as it appears as though they give you $10 credit if you pay the $5 fee…I spotted it on the NZ site, and the Aussie terms say the same:

"11.1. Upon paying the $5 club membership fee and approval of the Member’s application for Membership, the Member will be issued $10 complimentary Loyalty Credit. This credit must be used within 56 days from the date of club membership activation (AEST).

11.2. SCA may choose at their sole discretion (E.g. promotional events) to waive the $5 joining fee, however in this instance the $10 of Loyalty Credits will not be applied to the members account."

    • Is the credit redeemable both online and instore?

      • Looks that way:

"12.14. Loyalty Credits can only be redeemed in a SCA store or online store in Australia. For example, Loyalty Credits earned in Australia cannot be redeemed in a New Zealand Super Cheap Auto Store or the New Zealand Super Cheap Auto online store."

What's the difference? Either way you save $5, am I missing something?

      • +2

You failed maths at school, huh? LOL

Normally it's $5 and you get $10 credit. So you save $5 on your purchase = $5 saving.

This deal is free, but you save NOTHING = saving ZERO.

        • +4

No, you save $5 by joining now.

Edit: you're right, my apologies. Just thought it threw, late nights obviously don't benefit.

        • +7

          Ummm - DOH.

          OK. I'll offer you a deal…

Deal A) Have this bit of paper for free

Deal B) You give me $5 for the same bit of paper, and I'll give you $10 in return.

          Choose one.

Edit: you're right, my apologies. Just thought it threw, late nights obviously don't benefit.

          Thanks

Sorry for the smartalec comments, but it shows how TRICKY these companies can be - they deliberately try to trick people!

        • +1

I didn't neg you, but you are right. Sorry, too much late night bargain hunting.

        • +5

now the other thing, threw should be through

        • +4

This analogy is good except for one flaw:

The deal you are offering is cash, so Deal B is good because you get paper and $5.

However, with $10 credit is different to $10 cash. You get free membership and $5 credit. If you've got nothing to actually buy then you are $5 out of pocket and didn't really save anything.

Free membership costs you nothing and you are not out of pocket at all. So really up to how you are looking at it.

        • I'll take deal B, whats your bank account number?

        • Deal B sounds better than the Supacheap offer. What sort of paper? ;-)

        • I obviously failed English aswell.

        • TP

I'm with you, either way you save $5….

        • +5

ROFL… come on guys, just think about it…

Normally - you pay $5 and save $10 on purchase.

This deal you save $5 and get no discount.

        • There's no guarantee that Australia will have the same $10 credit promotion that NZ did.

ATM it's all just speculation and assumptions.

      • +1

This deal is just like you pay for it for $5.. then they reimburse you the $5… Therefore, you get it for free
The later deal is you pay $5.. then they reimburse you the $5.. n they give you another $5 on top of it.
        Get it?

    • Well spotted. Unfortunately joined earlier when received email :-(

I shake my head (and fist) at these stupid companies, and their coked up marketing departments.

Why don't they just make an offer and stick to it, rather than putting additional deala and tricky disclaimers into everything? I mean truly!

Join our loyalty program for $5 and we will reward you with $10 credit. Oh, and here's a special deal… join our loyalty porogram for free and MISS OUT on the $10 discount that we offer normally.

Why is the special promo deal actually LESS ATTRACTIVE than the standard offering? FFS what a TOTAL FAIL!

        HEY…

What is the Club Price Promise? If the product goes on special within two weeks of your purchase, they'll credit the difference direct to your club card. Free membership is available until next Tuesday 18/9/2012.

I wonder if they will give you the Club Price Promise on the cost of the club membership? ROFL

      • +2

yo, you just confused my head…is this a saving? yay or nay?

        • ROFLMAO !!!!!!

  • not sure what they have that is decent anyway. most of their stuff are cheap for a reason

    • +4

They sell decent tools, parts, and consumables; it's not all 50c buckets and pink seat covers.

  • +11

It's a saving if you don't already have something in mind to purchase at SCA.
If you sign up now, you aren't out of pocket and would be a member.
But if you sign up later, you are $5 out of pocket but have $10 credit you have to remember to spend (within 56 days).
If you don't need to buy anything now, you won't have the itch to want to use up that $10 credit (and probably spend more buying something more than $10).

  • +1

holy crap i can't believe the lol's in this thread.

join now, get supposed benefits over time

join later, pay $5, receive $10 joining credit. Assuming you spend this credit before expiry, you effectively end up $5 better off

    also 1 + 1 = 2

    • +4

Rofl at getting a neg vote for explaining it again and inserting some light hearted humor at the end

      The Internet is serious business.

  • +7

From the short amount I have read (and won't investigate any more into it) - there is no guarantee that there will be a $10 offer (after $5 joining fee) as far as I can see. That was from the NZ website? Will Oz definitely run the same promotion?
It is in the terms and conditions but nothing says they can't drop that when the offer rolls out later.

My suggestion - join now for free.
If a better deal - join again later. They will not knock back your $5 joining fee.
