Think this a good deal with the cashback. Much better choice than a Flex 5 as this doesn't have widely reported hinge failure.
Add the 16GB and 512GB for $29/$19.
Not cheaper on Education Store.

Delivery reported as 6-7 weeks but going off others experiences can be much sooner.

  • Is it worth getting the on site support package(3 years for $90). Any idea if this covers accidental damage?

    • +1

definitley would NOT include accidental damage and yes paying the $90 for onsite support is totally worth it.

      • Thank you!

    • +1

Just my experience it is worthy, technician showed up next day to fix it, dont have to post it and wait. And 3 years comparing the normal 1 yr. Not sure abt accident though, but it is not insurance so unlikely covered

    • +1

      definitely worth it

  • +1

The screen on this is really dim at 300nits

    • Still better than Flex 5 with 250.

      • ok wow that's terrible

    • +3

300nit is more than fine for majority of users. below 300 is not so good

for working outdoor comfortably (in the shade) you need around 500

for direct sun readable screen you need around 1000

not many laptops will give you that

      • According to NotebookCheck it doesn't even hit 300nits, it gets to a maximum of 280.

      • -5

Why would you work outdoors, unless you work in the field in which case rugged laptops are needed?

People who are employed to do office should turn up to the office in the first instance, and if they need to work from home then they must be mandated to work inside a confined space.

        • +1

that's my point exactly. very special models provide real bright screens, we're talking service management, asset management, normal folk wouldn't buy a laptop like this

300 nit is pretty much sweet spot between keeping the power consumption down but also being able to work in an office near a window on a sunny day

special laptops (you know executive or sales kind of folks, think Dell Latitude 7000 9000, think HP Firefly etc) can be configured with 400-500 nit and high res panels to be able to show something in a cafe outdoors (but not in direct sun)

and mostly rugged or workstation variants will get 1000nit to be readable in direct sunlight, no other use for 1000nit screens really

          • @shabaka: Thank you. I am glad someone is seeing through all these employees trying to game their employers.

        • +3

Agreed. They should also be wearing ankle bracelets so employers can track them.

On a more serious note, working from outside is great - change of scene, fresh air, D.

  • The yoga 7 has the OLED screen upgrade option but 16gb soldered ram, this deal has the 32gb ram upgrade but stuck with the worse screen. Dammit Lenovo!

    • +2

Pretty sure your can only upgrade this one to 16gb soldered.

      • You're right! My bad

    • Any suggestions for Windows laptops with 32 GB or more RAM?

      • Looking for a reasonably priced one myself. Thinkbook can do 40GB, but not a great screen. Please let me know if you find something good.

  • -4

    Overpriced

    • Any other recommendations to make? Looking for something for high school, touch screen etc…

      • -2

Lenovo tab m10 plus 3rd gen $249, check it out

        • Haha. You're recommending a Android tablet instead. That's a change. I was expecting the other direction - a desktop.

      • Might look at that for myself, though need a windows machine for high school.

  • Ships FREE within 6-7 weeks

    Wow what a big chance….

And it comes in 3 months…

    What a big company?!

  • +1

consider yoga7 for a bit more

reasons: better CPU with better built in GPU. can have OLED panel for +$100

    • can't buy it here in NZ on sale :)

  • I cant find the accidental damage coverage option. Doesn't lenovo have one?

  • +1

Fantastic deal. I bought this laptop ~3 months ago on the Lenovo Pro store for $1248 with 16% cashback. Very happy with it so far.

Build quality seems decent and the laptop itself looks stunning

  • Sprang for it, 1177 inc upgrades and 3 year on site support. Got 177 notified cashback almost immediately.

  • I have the 7730u model, feel free to leave any questions and I'll answer them if I can

    some general observations
    pros:
    - Very long battery life, gets even longer when changing power plan options
    - Well built, hinge is very sturdy
    - Solid performance

    cons:
    - screen gloss gets annoying when you're viewing in an environment with direct lighting, next to a window, etc
    - screen seems to bulge out at the bottom slightly from the frame, not a lot but it's definitely not flush
    - the included pen sucks
