this will just be on first page for a few hours then its gone
IIMurphaII on 17/09/2012 - 13:50 ¶Also the reason I didn't post it. Else I would have had it up 10 minutes after release…. yeah I was having a late one…
+6 votesthelastnoob on 17/09/2012 - 11:54 ¶after waiting 7 years i think its a great idea for a post to promote this awesome game

+4 votesthelastnoob on 17/09/2012 - 12:05 ¶one of the best and most original single player campaigns
some of the best weapons ever
a good variety of enemies
compare to halo where you had a small group of enemies and virtually the same weapons over 5 games
+1 votetheguyrules on 17/09/2012 - 17:45 ¶Why compare to Halo? Halo is amazing, but there are also tons more games than HL, so of course there are weapons being used in all of them, as well as TONS of new weapons.

+1 voteYes, I know. But DayZ isn't done by a full professional studio, just an organized bunch of talented modders.
But Zombie survival games are already gaining cookie-cutter status.
Left 4 Dead? Dead Island? Resident Evil 5? I've played all of them and I've just had enough of Zeds.

+11 votesI just find it funny people posting they wouldnt know if this was in the forums. its on all the gaming sites you can find seeing its big news (and log into steam and you should see most of your friends playing it) and a lot of people wore watching this mod for years (I was when I first seen some of there vids)
yes its a good game and yes people should know about it and get it NOW (dont ask just download it) BUT this isnt the place for it.
just think we shouldnt prase this post (not the game) too much or people will be posting iOS games that are free and will remain free (and in turn isnt a bargin)
+5 votesWhy are you getting your panties into a bunch? This mod deserves the exposure; casual gamers don't go through gaming news websites, and users have already stated that if it wasn't for this front page post they woudln't have seen it.
I don't get why it upsets you so much.
+6 votesbecause in the past I have made some posts similar to this and ALL had blacklash and most wore deleted
I dont see why another person can avoid the rules by posting a popular game mod and not have the same crap/review that all other bargins get
as I said before its a good game the the modders did a really good job. and go to ANY gaming website its listed there, go on steam you will find at least 1 friend who is playing it (if you have any friends on your list) and if you want gaming news go to a game news webpage
+4 votess on all the gaming sites you can find seeing its big news (and log into steam and you should see most of your friends playing it) and a
Not everyone reads gaming websites — some people don't have time and have bigger priorities.
lot of people wore watching this mod for years
Only a subset of people watch it. I didn't, even though HL was one of the first games I played as a kid.
+1 votegrab_ur_freebies on 17/09/2012 - 18:07 ¶I have fond memories playing this on my P1 w/MMX back in '98! The LANing was epic back then b4 CS was released. What was that map where you could hide in a bunker & nuke everyone outside?
Currently playing this with 3x 22" eyefinity setup, the immersion makes it so much more enjoyable & sweeter than playthroughs of previous official versions using 1 mon.
+5 votesbecause those who have negged it have a pretty good reason behind it.
otherwise we'll just get a whole bunch of free iOS and mods on here taking up space from actual bargain.
it's a great game updated with the source engine and I don't see anyone negging it cause they hate the game.
+1 voteBeen listening to the soundtrack this arvo…..
Very good!!! (and free)
+4 votesidontalwaysnotlie on 17/09/2012 - 15:48 ¶In my opinion its a free copy of a awesome game that still retails for $9.95
http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/
for most people its hours of fun for the cost of a few gigs of internet
+3 votesbatiudrami on 17/09/2012 - 16:19 ¶Without passing judgement on the quality of the game (I played a few hours over the weekend and it seems very good), this is like saying Open Office is a bargain because it's the same as Microsoft Office which retails for $X.
It's a free, community-built remake of a classic game (with significant changes). Not a free copy of Half-Life.
+2 votesOnce again, this is one of those posts that are probably more of a forum topic. Unfortunately, this release is likely of interest to many Ozbargainers who wouldn't have seen this on the forums. But this isn't a news site - it's a bargain site.
That said, the case could be made for this game being a "bargain" of sorts in that it's a fully fledged quality game that you don't have to pay for (so saving money by not buying other games). We could say the same thing though regarding other free games.
This is just a suggestion, but could we potentially get somewhere on the home page that makes posts like this more relevant, but still kept within the forums?
+1 voteThere's a 'New Forum Topics' panel on the homepage on the right hand side but it's right in the middle of the page so it goes unnoticed most of the time.
Maybe if it was a horizontal panel at the bottom of the page under the page numbers more people would take notice of it.
ProspectiveDarkness on 18/09/2012 - 02:32 ¶I thought the admins were going to overhaul the forum system a while ago, with the intention of making it more relevant. I'm not sure what happened to that, but I hope it's still planned for the future.
The forums would be a much better place if there was more discussion actually happening. Guess I'll just have to rely on Whirlpool for that, for the time being :-)

+2 votesThemojorising on 17/09/2012 - 20:51 ¶Perhaps a little preview window of popular forum threads or a "top threads" window much like the top bargain one would be an idea…

+1 votePuff Braddy on 17/09/2012 - 21:11 ¶I don't check the forums, I'm not here to chat I'm here for bargains. Thank you for posting this bargain where it should be posted.

+4 votesmalcolmrivera on 18/09/2012 - 00:35 ¶I agree. It doesn't matter that the forums aren't used enough nor does it matter that this is a popular, high quality game. It's not a bargain by the definition of the rules and those rules exist for a reason. With the amount of free fan-made mods that get released daily, labelling this a bargain sets a bad precedent.
But again, a very good product. :)
+4 votesProspectiveDarkness on 18/09/2012 - 01:11 ¶I agree completely. This may be a good product, but that doesn't change the fact that this is always free, therefore, not a bargain. I also agree 100% on setting a bad precedent.
I don't understand people saying that it should be labelled a bargain, just because they don't check the forums. When you call for exceptions to the rules, which are in place for a good reason, it defeats the purpose of the rules, it defeats the purpose of the forums (hello, discussion?), and it defeats the purpose of this site.

Whilst I can see the point of the negative voters on here. I think this is of interest to oz bargainers. Perhaps there should be another category of deals/bargains called other opportunities that are treated like bargains ?
Eg ongoing bargains ? That would keep this area clear and keep some consistency.
+4 votesProspectiveDarkness on 18/09/2012 - 11:28 ¶But that is what the forums are for, see the section 'Bargains, Deals and Freebies'?
There's no point in implementing something like that, when the forums already cover the need for it.
If people are afraid that, should these things be posted in the forum, they'll miss them, then the solution is simple: make a habit of looking at the forums every once in a while.
-1 voteShame people tend to give Half life, quake and doom so much credit. When really half life got a lot from system shock and Ultima Underworld. Wolfenstein and Ultima Underworld came out at a similar time and check out how much more advanced ultima underworld was…but it and system shock never get the true credit they deserve for pioneering FPS and story based / character driven FPS gaming. so many FPS features like lean etc were first in Underworld and System Shock (Origin Systems games) and then made it to the other games.
+5 votesPeople give Doom so much credit because it gave true 3d monsters (wolf is notorious for essentially having enemies as 2d objects that rotate as you do. It also gave 3d environments instead of everything on a flat surface. It also brought us the BFG. Not to mention X-look.
People give Quake so much credit because it gave true mouselook in a 3d environment, it gave us air acceleration, it gave us true multiplayer deathmatch maps. It also was the first FPS to hit the nail on the head 100% when it came to incorporating soundtracks into the atmosphere.
People give Half Life so much environment because it was streets ahead of the competition in terms of graphics, it was the first game to bring a truly intriguing story line, it also gave us a realistic setting in terms of the environment we played in. On top of this, It also gave us mods like counter strike, DoD, and Natural Selection.
I am not slagging out Wolfenstein of Ultima Underworld, but please give credit where credit is due. You can like them all you know.

And that's why you'll never be a mod, thankfully. I have the right to express my opinion, as does everyone else on this board. Just because my opinion differs from yours, doesn't mean its of any less value. Now stop being an arrogant little fool, and learn some manners.
-1 voteHalfArsed Engin... on 22/09/2012 - 21:41 ¶So, how do I actually play the game?
I used up most of this months download allowance, installed the game, click on "Run the game" and absolutely NOTHING HAPPENED.
-1 voteHalfArsed Engin... on 22/09/2012 - 22:55 ¶I've read this page many times and not seen a single mention of installing steam .
ProspectiveDarkness on 22/09/2012 - 23:01 ¶Did you look at the actual mod's page at all?
Black Mesa will require the Source SDK Base 2007 to run. Many Source games purchasable through Steam come with the Shared Resources, including the SDK, that you will need in order to run Black Mesa. To see if you can run Black Mesa, open Steam and look in the tools tab. If you see an entry titled Source SDK Base 2007, you can run Black Mesa.
TL;DR: If you don't have Steam, then you won't have the Source Engine, then you can't play the game. It was mentioned that the Source SDK was required to be installed separately, anyway.
If you meet the Software requirements, you technically do not need anything installed. If you do not have the Source SDK Base installed however, upon running Black Mesa you will be prompted by Steam and asked to download it.

Isn't this free now and forever? Not really a bargain… more of a forum post.
