Tokuya Melbourne CBD $2.80 Store - $2.20 Anniversary Sale

120

Tokuya, the $2.80 store (used to be $3.50 for a while) is having a sale - everything in store is $2 + GST ($2.20) for a 'limited time only'. Melbourne CBD store (Bourke st)

See the attached PDF I received in an e-mail.

Considering everything used to be $3.50 at some point, $2 is a nice saving :)

  • Wouldn't everything be $2.20 since they state "2 dollars plus GST".

    • yeah I was wondering that .. wasn't sure if they meant the 'plus GST' was actually included with the $2. that's probably correct though, it may be $2.20

      • Yeah, it's actually $2.20.

        Cheaper than Daiso, I suppose.

Hopefully they are more clear in-store, since according to Australian GST law, retailers must include GST in their displayed pricing.

        • cheers, edited the post to reflect the '$2 + GST'

  • I reckon it is the closing down sale instead :P

    • Harsh, but very likely…

Make it Y100 ($1.21) and then I'll be interested.

  • Konbanwa….
So Melbourne gets all the Japanese discount shops,
& Brissie gets all the Mos Burgers.
What other interesting Japanese shops are there in Oz?

    • We've got a Samurai burger in Victoria

      • What's the Samurai burger?

        There's Kinokuniya in Sydney.

        Melbourne used to have Daimaru….

        • Daimaru was also on the Gold Coast… memories.
Never seen Samurai Burger outlets in Japan???
(Mean Japanese businesses also operating in Oz.)
          And Kinokuniya is mainly books.

          I do like to browse 100Yen / 1000Won / Pound / Singapore$2 / RM5 / etc shops
But my faves are the Japanese 100Yen shops. Hope they make it up here soon.
Will save bringing all that stuff back from my trips.

That's all I can think of in terms of Japanese businesses in Australia.
I guess, there's also JTB and HIS :P

        • Of course! Just a little 'homesick' for Japan.

It appears Uniqlo is coming to Australia… in 2014
          http://www.pedestrian.tv/mobi/m320/article.php?id=91219

Also found out recently a boutique tea store in Melbourne called Lupicia
          http://www.lupicia.com.au/

        • Thanks. Wearing some Uniqlo clothes at the moment!
Still a 2 year wait for their colourful stores…
"The retailer confirmed yesterday that it would establish an Australian subsidiary in Melbourne later this year and open its first Australian flagship by August 2014."

Hope they have some bigger sizes for Oz males than in Japan.
Just checked my Japanese size XXL (largest & rare) Uniqlo T-shirt, which seems to be a Medium here.

      • Oh … I'm not sure if it's an actual Japanese business. It sells the burgers where the bread is replaced by a rice based thing.

I don't know if they have a website
        http://www.ador.com.au/restaurantdetail.aspx?r=21422&c=1&res…

I think we have anime businesses but they might not be Japanese chain stores

        • I think we have SuperDry stores if you want that fashion.

        • lol SuperDry was an idea totally developed in the UK. They just thought looking 'Japanese' would sell their designs. They were looking for fonts & designs & took ideas from Japanese graphics & 1950's US service stations. Nothing Japanese about the brand. Just shows their hype works. (I saw a doco on design featuring SuperDry - otherwise I would know absolutely nothing about their supposedly Japanese product.)

From their site: "Inspired by a trip to Tokyo in 2003, Superdry fuses design influences from Japanese graphics and vintage Americana, with the values of British tailoring."

Their site has a competition to win a holiday in Australia - hope I win! http://www.superdry.com/australia

        • Samurai burgers gets good reviews. Mos Burger has similar product.

Gosh I miss Mos Burger in Japan.

Well they are taking over Brissie!
Was treated like a rock star in one Mos Burger on the tiny island of Amami-Oshima. (Few foreigners seen there, between Kyushu & Okinawa.) The young woman on the counter couldn't stop screaming & wanting to give me presents. Service is a little more ordinary here :(
