Amazon Prime Metro Delivery Times

Hi all

Been an Amazon Prime member since they arrived in Australia. In the past few months my Prime Membership has stopped providing next day deliveries to both the nearest Amazon locker, the nearest ParcelPoint or our PO Box. All these delivery channels were always next day.

These now typically take at least a week, minimum.

Located in inner Sydney so we are in the metro deliver zone. Amazon will still send the same item next day to our house but as it’s not secure it’s a risk of the parcel being stolen. Has happened in the past.

What other experiences do others have with Prime delivery times?

Looks like we now pay more for a lower quality of service/delivery experience. Strange as I would have thought it would be easier for Amazon to deliver in bulk parcelpoint/lockers/PO Boxes - they always did this at the height of Covid

Could be out of stock in local warehouse? Usually when I purchase something urgently I filter by next day delivery.

I nearly always get my items next day, or sometimes same day.

It was always about disrupting the market, building dominance then back to cutting costs where possible to make it sustainable.

    • Not sure why you’re negged. It’s the same approach that uber and airbnb have taken.

  • I never have had issues. Aust post on the other hand are a nightmare.
    Amazon generally are next day

  • My Prime deliveries have been slowing down. I ordered the Mocconna sachets and it got to the point where it said 'we' re sorry your delivery is late, contact us tomorrow for a refund ' and of course it was out for delivery the next day so that message changed 🙄

  • Sign up for Amazon Flex and you could be the person delivering late packages! I assume they're having the same issue Uber had, when a lot of casual/uninvested drivers leave so theres only a few full timers left

    parcelpoint/lockers/PO Boxes

That's because we own and operate those services. Amazon gives us the parcel and we ship it to those locations. If the parcel has come from Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth (Where Amazon also has fulfilment centres) to Sydney, then they usually ship it internally using their company called "Amazon Logistics", which has slowly been growing over the past year, then, when in Sydney, they'll give the parcel to us for the "last mile delivery" to those specific destinations.

    • Makes sense - for some reason I always had assumed the amazon contractors must have had OTP type codes to open the box and deposit goods.

      • Nope, they are filled and sorted by us in the mornings. No one else can access them.

        • Do you ever think to yourself while sorting that you might be handling some other famous ozbargainer's order? Eg JV , Muzeeb, Scotty etc

  • Living in Townsville, deliveries (mostly) come from Melbourne (strange I know), I think I’ve only had 1 delivery sent via Brisbane, so my standard delivery is usually a week.

I've had Amazon Prime for maybe 5 years and deliveries to our PO Box have always been slower. If I choose to get the item delivered to our house it's generally the next day.

  • We are in a metro postcode, but are on fringe. Prime or not it has always been around 4 business days regard of auspost or couriers (aramex take longer as they pass it in to another service)
    .

  • Amazon’s lockers?

Amazon counter North Sydney Newsagent delivery Wednesday the 4th October, same item delivery home same suburb tomorrow.

  • I've only had deliveries to my home address and it's always 1 or 2 days delivery, the only time it didn't arrive on time was when the parcel was lost and another time when they left it with the neighbours.
