Travel Insurance for Inca Trail

I've just figured out that my insurance policy I purchased through scti last week doesn't include cover for hiking the inca trail due to it being >3000m in altitude and climbing >500m per day on the hike.

Does anybody know some good policies that will cover this?

I'm trying to figure out if I'm best off keeping my current scti policy and just having the inca trail part separately covered by another insurer, or if I'm best off with a whole new policy.

Whatever policy I get will need to cover for medical conditions and cruising/unlimited medical and evacuation expenses from antarctica too.

Please help.

    • Unfortunately only 2 of those links are for Australians.
The other 2 links are quoting me $4500-$6000 which is a crazy insane amount!

      • are you sure,
how much would it cost if you got sick / injured / hurt?
would it cost more then $6000?

        • Yep, im sure.. thats the quote i got for adding on the adventure pack required for the altitude i need.
Im unsure how much things would cost.. but $6000 seems excessive. Im sure there are other options that would be less and cover the same amount, surely.

  • I did something similar and used Zoom travel insurance with the adventure pack addon was good till like 6000m.

    • I'll take a look and compare

    • Zoom seem extra xheap compared to everybody else. They are approximately $1000 cheaper. Did you compare many pds?

      • *cheap

        • I looked around quite a bit. But can't really remember too much about it. I didn't have to use it.

  • Just get one policy with the add-on included in.

    Try:
    Inca Trail travel insurance >4000m

*Depending on the altitude you're hiking to, you may need upgrade your policy at the time of purchase

This is who we used when we did it years ago. As mentioned by holdenmg, whoever you go with, just check what altitude the policy covers for.

      • Did you have to claim at all?
Yes, the altitude listed is very important to check in the pds.

    • Thank you. I did see them as an option. Im unsure whether to get them for just the inca trail, and keep my scti policy for the rest. Or if i just get a full policy with world nomads. Their reviews dont seem as favourable compared with scti.

Also, i had a friend suggest allianz also can cover for high altitudes. I might have to compare the two. I wonder if there are any other options as well.

      • I wouldn't ever get policies across two different companies as you won't know where one policy begins and ends.
In the event of a claim, you potentially set yourself up for endless complexities and hoping each company will liaise with the other.
Both will try and say the other should pay.

One decent policy is simple, will cover you and cost less.

        • Sorry. I should clarify. I meant i can get an adventure sports policy for the inca trail part of my holiday (which is the start of my holiday and approx 14days), and then have a seperate policy for the entire trip (2.5months), so that if i need to claim at any point (even if its not medical especially >3000m altitude) then i can if the coverage is better. E.g. get a zoom policy or freely policy for adventure sports (inca trail), and then scti for the rest of the trip. I hope that makes better sense. Or do you still think one policy, even if it isnt great coverage for everything else?
