Does Anyone Know How Grease Pencils Are Made?

Grease pencils are those paper wrapped wax pencils that have a sting you pull to sharpen them.

I have always wondered how they make these, especially how the string is placed perfectly through the pencil allowing you to peel it away.

Anyone have any clues on how they are made?

especially how the string is placed perfectly through the pencil allowing you to peel it away.

This thing, right? I don't know that there's any particular trick to setting up the string. If you just had coils of the wrapping paper stacked on top of each other along the shaft with the string underneath the outmost layer each time, then that would work exactly the way that it appears to work. Not sure if that's how they're actually made, but it doesn't seem like unreasonably fancy technology or anything.

yes that is the one. Its also the same as the eye brow pen.

It seems pretty simple, but the paper used seems perforated and the string is only on the last layer of paper, instead of lined through each layer.

How It's Made should do a video on it

  • Wow didn't know these were a thing. If you wanna graffiti someone's wall and make it an absolute PITA to remove these would work great.

    • why would be puita ?

      • Grease is a PITA to clean off walls and you cant just paint over it.

        • presha washa ?

          • @capslock janitor: Still a PITA and you need to use a degreaser solution with the pressure washer. Most likely need to get someone out with a hot water pressure washer.
