Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones - $399 (RRP $599) Delivered @ David Jones

320

Lowest price ever for these ANC headphones - probably because a refreshed model was just launched (px7 s2e).

Available in all 3 colours - black, grey and blue.

Can confirm firmware updates have improved the sound profile imo.

TLDR Review:

  • Great sound.
  • Great materials and build quality.
  • Decent but not class leading ANC.
  • Requires power to run (even wired) i.e. does not run passively.
  • Mediocre/poor phone app.
  • Mediocre support from B&W.

Have had these for coming on a year now. Super comfortable, super well built, sound pretty good (for wireless headphones), ANC is good but not amazing, and the app sucks. Easily the worst thing about them is the stupid app. I hate it. I hate it so much that I wish I bought something else.

  • +3

I have had these for maybe 4-6 months. The audio quality is unreal. At $399 this is a killer deal, much better than buying Sony xm5s or Sennheiser momentum 4s in my opinion. Agree with the comment above, the app is pretty useless, hence I never use the app. I bought them at $450 on a sale, no regrets.

  • +1

I have been using the og PX and absolutely love them!
Really tempted to upgrade to these…

    • Do it, the comfort difference alone is worth it.

  • I agree on the app but I just don't see the need to use it? Love the sound quality, far superior to Bose and Sony imo.

  • I got the Sony MX5 from eBay refurb deal and it is in the mail. I tried these on at DJs and they were super comfortable and damn they sounded good.

I went to JB Hi fi to try on the MX5 and they were huge (maybe because they were demos ) and fell of my head (I have a smallish head). Anyone found the MX5s to be too big?

Not sure if I should return the Sonys…

    • I havea small head too. I didn't find them too big from what I remember, but I tried them on at jbhifi, while trying on a few, and found the Sennheiser momentum 4 significantly more comfortable, which took me out of them a bit. Also, I wasnt huge on the audio on the MX5… if returning them is possible, I know I would, but it's totally up to how you are going to use them. I have a pixel 6, so the codecs are much the much, but having them plugged in via USBC directly, the audio is top.

Also, a huge down side for people are the non folding option. I had old Sony 900n's before the b&W, and really miss the foldable option, which I'm pretty sure xm5 still does?

      • can't fold the XM5s, the XM4s are the foldable ones

  • +2

I really dont need another pair of headphones. But damn that price is tempting to upgrade my old xm2s…

  • Why do people even need to use the app? Other than for checking the battery level, I haven't felt the need to use it for anything.

I scored a pretty much unused one on Facebook marketplace for $250 a few weeks ago from a wealthy guy who seems to just buy expensive audio equipment for the sake of it and offloads them after a while because it's sitting there unused.

    Some pros:
    - sound quality is miles ahead compared to Bose QC45 which I also own for travelling
    - very comfortable to wear but the QC45 is more comfortable still
    - feels more premium than the QC45
    - charging speed is quick

    Cons:
    - ANC is not that great. If that's important for you, stick to the QC45. Most annoying is that when i turn my head at certain angles, noise seems to leak through more
    - Wear sensor (even after a recent firmware update) is erratic. Sometimes it stops playing music if i turn my head to the side as Im working at my workstation
    - this is more samsung phone issue but it only supports SBC, AptX and AAC codecs. You do sacrifice some clarity and loudness if you use these on SBC on your samsung phone.

    • Agree with all your points. Had mine for just over a year now. Love the sound, comfort, and premium feel. Definitely a step up from the Sony and Bose.

Yeah, the only real downside for me is the ANC. Definitely experienced the same issue where turning my head results in some sound "leaking" through. I think it's to do with how the noise cancelling microphones pick up the outside sound. Even my original Sony 1000x had better noise cancelling.

Fantastic price though. Looks like the only difference with the new s2e is a new DSP and a new green colour added to the range.

  • Copped one just to see what the hype was about. Also additional reminder to use the $10 welcome reward to get it for $389 over here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/539845

  • Better than the focal bathys?

    • +2

Haven't done a direct comparison personally but highly unlikely. They are not even in the same price point. Bathys should be compared to Px8

  • Reviews are not that great
My sony XM4 hinge just snapped
    Out of warranty
Any one had any luck with sony on out of warranty claims?
400 dollars for just 2 years?

    • Try it, you may get lucky!

  • -1

Why not get focal elegias if you don’t care about ANC and focussed on sound quality. Obviously not wireless

    • I'm curious to understand the point of suggesting a pair of headphones which are neither wireless nor ANC against a deal that lists a pair of wireless headphones with relatively good ANC?

  • +1

How difficult is it source and replace ear pads and head bands?

    Does anyone have experience?

  • I have px7 (gen 1, not s2) and I love them.

ANC isn't the best, recently got mx4 as they create perfect quiet space when I work, and sound quality isn't too bad after tweaking EQ, but they don't match px7 in sound quality.

when I go out for a walk, I reach out for px7. worse ANC means better environment awareness, and sound quality is amazing.

  • Dang….missed this, hope it goes on sale again soon.

  • Uuhh my Order for some Blue px7 s2 got cancelled and refunded. No much help from David Jones customer service to get some Black ones for 399 :(

    • Looks like ran out of stock for the blue? Some years back they were notorious for cancelling orders without explanation.

  • Still available in store. Offer ends 30/11

    • Thanks found the Grey ones at David Jones
      Perth

    • But apparently not for $399? They’re listed online for $599, one David Jones would do them for 15% off that.

      • when the worker hits total it reduces down to $399, I just checked

        • Is this still the case? Interested in getting it for $399

          • @LiQiD: it is still the case but stock was really low last time I checked (I think mostly display/ex-display units)

            • @theg00s3: cool thanks - i'll try and pop into the melb DJ later this arvo…
