What is the weight and battery life?

  • +2

Is the GPU actually locked at 80W? Notebookcheck says it ranges from 80-120W. If so this will probably perform much worse than the RTX 3060 NUC X15

Previous gen had the QHD screen :'(

    This is interesting

    12GB video memory. Impressive.

  • Can it output resolution of 4k at 144hz?

    • Yes. There is a hdmi 2.1 and TB4 port which should be more than capable of 4k144hz. Performance at 4k is another question.

      • I see… Thanks

Not sold on this at all.

Bad screen (budget 144hz in 2023 basically signifies 45% ntsc), no ram and ssd all require upgrade which immediately bumps up the real $ needed to make it a full fledged machine.

@FireRunner brought up an interesting point. And 80w is more than likely what it can sustain since this is of different chassis to last years x15. Here you are getting only two exhaust at the back - which basically confirms why it got a low tdp - the cooling is definitely suboptimal for this rig.

notebookcheck gave a good thumbs up for the a730m but that was in a Quanta chassis with sigficantly more beefy cooling. can not find any reviews on this chassis. will update if i find anything or any documention on tdp and such

Edit: get drivers n bios updates here in case you do grab this machine. couldnt find anything on gpu wattage yet. or if it have a mux switch of sorts - last years x15 didnt.

    • One of my friends has this machina and he says the thermals are decent. Not sure about the GPU tdp though. I'll ask him.

      • if he dont know how to test, can you ask him to install furmark & hwinfo, make sure laptop is in performance powerplan, stress test in furmark and check gpu power draw in hwinfo? cheers

Yeah he already has those and he said he will do it later. I will update this post when he responds.

        • What laptop would you recommend around 1200 please. For IT work please (App support). TIA✌️

@FBI: any laptop deals posted here at this range should be a-ok.

I dont think you need a dgpu, so perhaps watching for a deal similiar to this

              @Brrrrt: @Brrrrt Many thanks 🙏

    • thanks and agreed. having to add RAM and SSD kills it. No deal.

Really regret not jumping on this last year https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736134

Every time I see Arc I think of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnixKERWGgo

  • Is this a good laptop for students? I am more concern about battery life and portability

    • +1

Students as in primary school? High school? Uni?

If they're not doing anything graphically intensive, don't really need a dGPU. Can knock off a $$$ or two and save some money.

The laptop doesn't look exceptionally light or bulky for that matter, so moving it around a lot shouldn't be too big of an issue. Otherwise a 14" lappy is a nicer size for portability's sake imo.

  • Decent spec compared to lenovo thinkpad slim. It looks heavy though.

Bought one of these a couple months ago. Intel's quality has gone to shit. Constantly sounds like a jet taking off and even minor tasks take the CPU to max temp, causing it to throttle down. Took me a week of resetting the OS and installing different drivers to get it to be able to sleep. Hibernate still doesn't work. WOL took another week and it only works half the time (only computer I've ever encountered which only sometimes responds to WOL magic packets). About once a week it blue screens.

Doubt I'll be buying another Intel thing again.
