  • What does it do? Your page does not provide enough information!

    • It's a basic air purifier that uses a fan to circulate air through a filter. Designed to fit in a car cup holder I guess. Save your $30 for something else.

Don't modern cars already have filters built in these days? I can't see how this would filter efficiently once the dirty air is already in the car.

Just sounds like a waste of money.

I tested my car, and yes, it has a built in filter. Internal air quality is about a quarter of external air (heavily trafficked road on a low pollution day).

If someone is concerned about particulate air quality, keep the windows closed and recirculate the air.

@rumblytangara: Keeping re-circ on for extended periods >30mins with a car full of people can increase CO2 levels inside to 3000-4000ppm, which can affect cognition, cause drowsiness and lower reaction time. Some cars have HVAC systems (e.g., VE commodore) that periodically let fresh air in even on full re-circ, otherwise on most cars it is a good idea to let fresh air in every half hour or so; either cracking window open or turning re-circ off for a min or so.

            • @highon2str: I must say. done over 1000k drive several times with recirc always on and never noticed any difference. did stop for gas, so not sure how long driving, but huessing was, ovef 30 minute periods

"The purified air has the smell of oxygen and is closer to nature."

What more do you need to know? ;)

      • Mmmmm I love the smell of oxygen..

        • Just hope that there isn't any sneaky Carbon around. They might mix and you might go for a ride.

      • +1

Oxygen (O2) is actually odorless. Our sense of smell is not able to detect it because it is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas. However, oxygen can sometimes produce a slight metallic smell when it comes into contact with certain materials, such as metal pipes. This is because oxygen reacts with the metal, causing it to corrode. In general, though, oxygen itself has no distinct smell.

      • has the smell of oxygen

        I smell B.S.

At standard temperature and pressure, two atoms of the element bind to form dioxygen, a colorless and odorless diatomic gas with the formula O2.

        • "I smell B.S."

          No, that's just Oxygen…

  • "Black Vehicle Air Purifier"
    Got one for white cars?
    .

    • Yes. It costs $49

      • White one is Sold out

  • I would buy one but have a Tesla Model S that I always keep in bio-weapon mode.

    • How much are the filters?

    Any negative energy purifiers?

  • Can this be used in white vehicle? Or only in black vehicle?

These air ionisers are such snake oil. Firstly there have been countless studies with no evidence to show they do anything beneficial. On the other hand, most of them produce ozone as a byproduct, which is in fact toxic to us.

If you care that much about the air in your car, find an air purifier that just uses a regular hepa filter instead.

I wonder if the smell of oxygen is actually ozone.

      • Yep, almost certainly that is what you are actually smelling. Normal oxygen is odourless, but Ozone has sort of like a sweet smelling chlorine/bleach odour, many describe the smell as 'clean'. Which sort of tricks you into thinking you are breathing in fresh air, but it is actually harmful to your lungs. Especially in an small enclosed space like a car.

Peter Brock called, and he'd like his magic black box back!

Close all windows. Change air cycle to inside circulation mode and turn air-con on. The cabin filter will work better than this one. Just get a good cabin filter and change it regulary.

    • Do you happen to know if something like this could be useful for very very old cars that don't have a cabin air filter? My Toyota Avalon 2000 doesn't. Apparently overseas it does but Australian ones don't.

      • If I were you I’d get one. Muggy days just put it on and it will clear the air inside whilst you are at the shops! 👍

  • Air purifiers aren’t enough to clean your home from wildfire smoke is work a read.

We realized that to permanently remove those smoke VOCs, we had to physically remove them from surfaces. The good news is that cleaning surfaces by vacuuming, dusting, and mopping with a commercial, nonbleach solution did the trick.

Ozone generator in an enclosed space? You gotta be kidding me.

    800mAh battery…. 500mA draw…..
    "Battery life 4.5h/2.5h"

Not only is it dangerous, its impossible.

  • The only one i have actually seen which does anything more than filter air is the Panasonic nanoX one, i bought it for $150, but is currently $300 odd on Amazon

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Panasonic-F-GPT01M-Portable-NanoeX…

    Does do what it says
