  • I'm using orbit atm. The ui sux and I'm really keen to migrate the automation to home assistant.

    Which solenoids would you recommend?

    • Hunter 24v.

Depending how complex your irrigation requirements are i would not look past OpenSprinkler for a similar price. This might be perfect for households but if you happen to own a rural acreage or have complex water requirements (parallel or sequential zones, offsets for masters, concurrent solenoids) this might not do what you need

    Also im a farmer FWIW

    • OpenSprinkler for the win. If you have a bit of diy electronics know how you can get away with it relatively cheaply

AFAIK, this uses a non-permitted frequency band to communicate.

I see this has been resolved

"Good news for Australia! We have removed the LoRa module that was broadcasting on the 900Mhz channel. Any new Rachio Generation 3 units are not broadcasting on this channel anymore so are in compliance with Australian regulations."

  • Awesome they fixed this.
I've had the old controller for a couple years, it was a super easy mod to open, desolder and remove a tiny component to make it compliant in Australia.
Nice they have sorted it out on their end.

Awesome controller and app, highly recommended

  • If you're already on home assistant there's no need to waste money on this, get any that can integrate with home assistant. I haven't tried but the inkbird 6 channel goes below $100 very regularly
