New Monitor Advice

I'm looking at upgrading from a really old dell 1080 & 60Hz monitor to something half decent.

I would like something 1440 & 120Hz or higher refresh rate.

I've got $450 JB voucher to spend.

Would one of there be decent (they're both currently reduced from JB's rrp)?

Philips 32M1N5500VS 31.5" QHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/philips-32m1n5500vs-31-5-…

Both review quite positively - maybe the Philips sounds a bit better.

Really appreciate thoughts and advice - thx heaps.

I think the AOC looks better, IPS over VA

    • Specially now that 4K IPS is common without needing to import experimental display from Korea.

    Go for UHD

You'd have to sacrifice high refresh rate for 4K at ~$450 budget
If OP is looking to game, QHD, high refresh rate makes more sense.
For productivity and media consumption 4K might be the way to go

Yes - it is mainly for games so 1440 at this price point.

Had a 1440p 32" and didn't like it due to low PPI, suggest going a bit smaller. 27" or 34" UWQHD. Response times are more important than raw refresh rates for actual perceived motion clarity, highly recommend looking at independent tests like RTINGS or Hardware/Monitors Unboxed if the one you're considering is on there to get a real sense of how the monitor handles motion. A lot of dodgy inflating of refresh rates on spec sheets at the cost of terrible overshoot that can end up looking worse than significantly lower refresh rates do on fast-moving content like shooters.

He might have confused the FHD one with the QHD version otherwise I don't see why you would spend $450 on that monitor.

The most OzBargain thing you can do is to sell the JB voucher for ~$400 bucks (cash is king, don't get scammed) and use the cash on a Black Friday deal or look second hand. I managed to get a LG 27GP850-B for $250 second hand for reference.

If you can't wait then this Viewsonic monitor via Amazon is a decent deal.

If you are adamant on buying from JB then this Asus monitor with a Mwave price match is fair priced. Even better if you could weasel your way out of the additional shipping cost.
