obviously they'll know… and your mate probably has to pay for the transaction fees associated card payments.

      • +1

Yes, but surely you'd be better off. Say 2% fee. It's 10cents from $5. Even if it is 50% you'd be pretty well off.

        lol

I want someone to do this!

        • -1

Hahaha thing is, in order for you to earn $120,000 cash back, you have to spend $2.4 million, that's alot of money.

        • Not really.

Just need 10k to start with, and each time you do it get your friend to give back the money.

All though I dunno how the 'business' will be taxed lol

        • -1

I really love your idea once I realise that there is no limit on cashback.

Yes, tax is the catch here. And the worst thing that could happen is the store and the cardholder get their accounts cancelled because they breach the T/C set forth by Visa.

A general clause for any accounts - The Financial service provider may terminate the account…

        • +2

The terms specifically state every eligible "purchases" that's on the customers’ side and a corresponding "sales" transaction onto the business owner who have a contactless terminal who happened to be your friend. Those sales transactions will be subjected to income tax and GST. And if your friend cancels the sales transactions and returns the money relating to your purchases, the amount that needs to be reversed on the ledger would be $2.4M in total to earn cash back of $120K, exclusive of any applicable tax/es.

By simply looking at the company ledger, such amounts of reversals are quite abnormal for a single customer. If I’m the auditor I’ll be very interested looking at the very nature of these reversals or adjustments in the company books.

Having said that, ING have every right to reverse any cashback you received, as purchases no longer exist. Waste of time if you ask me really.

        • +1

company will get taxed 30%, you only get rebate 5%.
but there is a way to trick the system
there are three party in here
          A is customer
B is the company where the customer purchase the thing
C is the supplier for B, where C can be a family or friend of A

B buying item from C with price $X.
Then B sell to A with $0 price, A come to B shop/office to tap his/card on the terminal just to pay the handling processing fee as formality.
Therefore, on the B company book will show as loss (buy price X but sell at $0), they don't have to pay the tax. Not sure the payment that B received as handling processing fee can be count as company taxable income or not.

If A can transfer the money to owner of company B.

Wow this is very danger plan, I have thinking about this when I saw lot of online company selling their product $0 and charge people with shipping cost that similar with retail price of the item.

        • Let say Price $X = $99.99, in order for Seller B to recoup the amount paid to Supplier C and to have a break-even result, isn’t it proper to sell to Customer A at its original cost instead of selling it at $0 value?

Sales (transactions between Customer A) $99.99
Less: Cost (transactions between Supplier C) ( 99.99)
          Gross Profit Margin $ 0.00

        • GST calculation mate. i hope no ato or afp people in here that able to trace me :)

        • What do you mean GST calculation?
If supplier C and seller B are both GST registered companies, then the input GST from the purchase from C will be offset from the output GST on sales made with A, it will even out anyway.

        • prefer not to discuss this thing any further mate :) case close

    • +1

you'd have to pay merchant fees and then on top of that, you would need to declare all that "income" that you earned as a merchant to the tax department. the tax rate is going to be way more than 5%.

      • Wait, for business, generally you can deduct the cost. You pay tax only on the profit.

But playing with EFTPOS can screw thing up especially for small stores. ATO estimates your cash income using a proportion of EFPOST/cash from a similar business in a similar location. If your EFTPOS sale rises significantly, ATO expects your cash sale to grow too. This will eventually lead to tax audit!

        • True a bit risky but if your books are in order I dont really see a problem. ALlthough havent read the ING T&C's so unsure what it has lol

Just ideas for anyone out there ;)

        • -1

There is a similar possibility that does not requite the merchant to cooperate.

Late last year, there used to be a giftcard that you can buy with a credit card with no fee. The giftcard can operates as EFTPOST. So, I use it to avoid ALDI then 1% fee for credit card.

A similar line of thinking is to buy phone top up voucher at BIGW. Stockpile it for your own use, distribute (or resell) it to your mates…

As long as you do it with a moderate amount and have a justification for it, it's unlikely to fail.

    • The processing fees and the obvious trail on the business front would make this infeasible.

  • So I just called up and am getting my new card sent out. It appears that people with existing Orange Everyday cards are indeed eligible.

So PayWave is different to PayPass right? ie. my local Woolworths has PayPass (still contactless) but I think it's different to PayWave? Also I definitely don't see PayWave as often as I see merchants accepting Paypass.

    • +2

Paypass is Mastercard's name for the contactless implementation, and Paywave is Visa's if I'm not mistaken.

    • Visa payWave is accepted at Australia's leading retailers, including McDonald's, 7-11, JB Hi-Fi, Bunnings and Caltex.

  • +1

Just called them before reading this post, their phoneline was busy! Happy ING customer here, would vote 100+ if I could for them passing the interest rate cut in full! Though it's worse for me since I'm loan free

  • I just called up and they said the offer is still available for new customers. Naturally then I filled in the application form :)

  • Does ALDI have paywave terminals?

    • Even if they did they charge 1% or 1.5% fee on visa/mc transactions.

      • +2

        No, its 0.5%

        • Agree. It used to be 1% last year.

    • +4

Ok, found a nice site that explains Visa Paywave with a brief list of merchants:

      http://www.visa-asia.com/ap/au/cardholders/paywave/index.htm…

Also, have try the game further down the page…

      • excellent, woolworths, coles, bunnings

        • also from the page, you can only do paywave contactless transactions for amounts < $100. for higher amounts, you have to use pin.

  • +4

i wonder if you can buy gift cards with Visa Paywave and get the 5% rebate? its a good deal if you can say buy a $99 wish card at woolies and use the gift card to pay for purchases made at other woolies group stores that dont have Visa Paywave yet such as big w? also if you have say two organge accounts linked to the one Visa Paywave card can you still get the 5% rebate on both >? i guess probably not as you need to press cheq for the second account. so will ing let you have two Visa Paywave cards if you have 2 organe accounts ? this is a good idea if you have to wait 30mins between Visa Paywave transactions at the same store.

    • good idea, should work! if you spend it quickly it would be good, otherwise you are losing interest on the money in the gift card

didn't someone previously say that you only have to wait if it is for the same exact amount at the same store?

    • Just wanted to know where you heard/read that "you have to wait 30mins between Visa Paywave transactions at the same store."? I am pretty sure this is not the case.

  • +4

My local coffee shop has paywave. 5% discounted coffee lol.

    • Woo 25c off.

  • +1

For those opening a new account, note it is the first 30,000 new ING DIRECT Orange Everyday customers who activate their payWave enabled Visa Debit card who qualify!!

  • +1

Got my new card this morning and tried it at 7/11 with no issues. They said the rebate comes through straight after your purchase has settled, i don't see anything yet- hopefully in the next day or so!

    • +1

wait until it appears as a transaction in a day or two. it is just an authorisation at the moment.

  • +6

Is it sad that receiving my card was the highlight of my day?

    • +3

I know how you feel. I transfered money into my account before getting the card and put off a couple of purchases in anticipation of the new card :-)

Would be better if Ozbargainers was spelled right in the pic…

        • +1

OzBargainers economise so much that they save time (hence money) by skipping letters :-)

  • Note: I am a completely new ING Direct customer and just received my Visa Debit package today, inside was a postcard telling me to activate my "card today and get 5% cash back, everyday".

I will try this tomorrow and see if I get my rebate.

  • Just wondering… if i lost my card, and someone finds it.. does that mean they can use my card via payWave?

    • They could providing you haven't cancelled it. Also some retailers have limits on paywave… eg 1 transaction every 30 mins or so

    • yes. they could also use your signature credit card or visa debit card if you had one. if you only leave zero or a smallish amount of working money in your orange everyday account then unauthorised transactions that exceed your balance will be declined.

visa also have a zero liability policy.

  • excellent, arrived in the mail today

  • +1

Received my card today, and put money into the account yesterday (was already an ING customer). Received a flyer with the card stating I will be getting the 5% discount. Already spent $100 on contactless. Important to note is the discount is applied a few days later when the transaction is fully processed. Keep that in mind when spending to not go below $0 by assuming discount is applied at sale time.

    • Important to note is the discount is applied a few days later when the transaction is fully processed.

ah, that makes sense, after the authorisation turns into a transaction

    • Got my card today, will try it in an hour or so. I hope I am one of the first 30,000.

      • +1

Yep got the 5% rebate today after yesterdays charges were finalised.

  • What is the timeout between transactions? If I'm at Bunnings with $200 of paint cans, how long do I have to wait before buying the second $100 batch?

    • i could understand if it was an indentical amount from the same store in a very short period of time. but blocking different amounts seems silly. i will experiment a bit for my next paywave transaction.

      • i tried a couple of transactions at coles today. all same store. all different amounts. no problems.

  • +4

i got my first rebate "Wave and Save Rebate $0.75"

    • How long does it take? Yet to see any rebates yet.

    • +1

i did the transactions at coles yesterday afternoon. you have to wait until the transaction appears in your statement. the rebate appears straight after the paywave transaction.

  • I have authorizations listed but no rebates.

    • +1

wait till it shows as a transaction, not a authorization

  • Got my paywave card today. Can't wait to try it out!

My debit card expired this month and a new one was already on its way when I called them. It arrived with a 5% rebate flyer, so existing customers whose cards expire soon - you don't have to do anything!

  • Wave and Save Rebate is for a purchase of $99.99 or less

    • Or under $100.

    • Yes, you can't even paywave amounts under that.

  • I need some advice please guys . I have an entertainment Card which gives me 5% discount off Coles and Woolworths on their gift card but is no good with paypass as you have to order online.
Is it worth getting a Infinite rewards card(Cost is $99 per year) as it gives the 5% discount off Coles and Woolworths on their gift card and hopefully i can use Paypass to buy it. This will mean if i buy a $100 gift card for $95 - $$4.90 Rebate. Real Cost is $90.10 . Am I on the Right Track ???

    • +1

You won't be able to use paypass to buy it because you have to be there in person to purchase something with paypass. Those 2 deals you have mentioned are ordered over the internet/phone(??), and it will be a regular credit transaction.

    • not many shop got this paypass terminal, most of the small shop still need swap the card.

  • 5% cash back received on each purchase. Sweet. I've also found Autobarn (Adelaide) has PayWave/PayPass machines. Hopefully IKEA will upgrade their old NAB EFTPOS terminals. Slowest machines I've seen and a PIN is always required.

  • Got my card this evening. Activated it and already "waved" it. Awaiting my cash back :)

This is going to get addictive…

    • +1

OK. I waited till this morning, saw the authorizations turn into transactions but no cash back. So, I called up their customer care and after a bit of wait was informed that all accounts opened on the day my account was opened, have an issue with the cash back. They are working to fix it but do not have a time frame as to when it will be done.

However, I was assured that I would receive the cash back for all the transactions I have done so far, either manually or automatically, when the system is fixed. She also confirmed that I can continue to use the card as usual and would receive the cash back for all qualifying "Wave and Save" transactions I performed.

My account was opened on 6-Oct-12. So, if there are others who are not seeing the cash back and had their accounts opened on 6-Oct-12, this is probably why. I would strongly suggest you call up their customer care and have this brought to their notice.

      • That might explain why my transactions haven't shown the cashback…the account was opened on either the 5th or the 6th and received the card on the 12th. Might give it a few days then give them a call.

        • +1

I got another call saying they should have this fixed by Friday. So, you should see cash back on your account by next Monday. Else, you'll need to call them.

        • Thats good to know, thanks :)

        • +1

I got another call this evening. The lady told me that they have fixed the issue and I should now be able to see the cash back on the transactions. They had to process a couple of them manually but the rest were generated by the system automatically. I checked my account and they are there. My cash backs. All my cash backs! Hurrah!!

And I am really happy with the customer service. No one has EVER followed up and kept me updated on the progress as these people have. Hats off! Very satisfied customer. Now let's see. How do I give them more business?

  • +6

I have received my first "Wave and Save Rebate", I've never been so excited about 35 cents in my life. Thanks OP.

    • Did it rebate 5% of the whole product, or just the non-GST component?

Also are you a new customer?

      • It did the rebate on the whole transaction ($7.00).

Yes Im a new customer, I haven't had a ING account in 4-5 years I signed up the day this promo started.

  • Still waiting on my card…

Still hoping I'm going to be part of the deal…

    • Me too. I opened a new account on the first day it was offered. :(

      • I'd be really surprised if you guys missed out.

  • +1

I tried to purchase a $20 item at Bunnings today but the contacless reader rejected my card twice. On the third attempt the machine showed 'No Contacless' and I was forced to use a different card, foregoing the 5% discount. In hindsight I should have refused the transaction and moved to a different checkout.

Contacless is great, but sometimes it just refuses to work for no apparent reason. My last transaction at the store was three days ago, so it's not like I'm abusing the system.

    • -1

Was your card upside down? I find that if the card isn't face up and right way up on the reader the card doesn't work sometimes

      • If it fails again I will try your suggestion. So far I've found the terminals at Coles and Woolworths to be the most reliable (have used contacless in the past with a different card).

        • I've been wondering about this too i.e. Paywave fails. My Amex fails at Woolies every time, and I'm pretty sure I'm holding it the right way up. I find that the operators tend to snatch it out of my hand before I can re-try. Might have to try a self-checkout line instead at a different store.

        • I think Amex fails because Woolies have not yet started accepting Amex contactless cards. They only accept Mastercard and Visa.

  • +3

Excited. Just bought a Violet Crumble bar on special at Woolies for $1.00…

    I MEAN $0.95! WINNING.

    • +6

      I just got a Maccas 30c icecream… i mean 28.5c icecream. WINNING

    • +3

for a $1 purchase you could do two $200 cashouts at the self-serves and get it for free. then you'd really be winning

      • -2

Like people have pointed out earlier, cashouts are only possible if SAV/CHQ a/c is selected. So, you cannot do cashouts using contactless as it defaults to the CRD a/c (even though in this card's case the CRD a/c is linked to the everyday account).

        So, tough luck :(

        • well you use savings and insert it inside of swiping it duh. or you could do 2 cash outs and then a paywave transaction

        • Well, the 5% cashback in on "contactless" transactions only. Not on insert/swipe.

I suggest you try and read the term and conditions before you start negging people.

Sorry, but still, tough luck :(

        • +2

did you even read what i originally said? do a $200 cash out and you get $0.50. do two and you get $1. that covers the cost of the $1 violet crumble.

        • -2

Yes, read it, shook my head, then shook my head again as you keep insisting on your wrongheaded idea. Give it up, it ain't going to work.

        • OK. So, I now realise that you were talking about the 50c that ING gives on $200 cashouts which is a different offer from this. I am a brand new ING customer and have only just become aware of this offer. So sorry for the earlier comment and thanks for bringing this to my notice.

  • Got my card today - worked like a charm! Included all the 5% info as well. Guessing they are still available!

  • Got mine yesterday too - w00! Just in time for me to buy my new headphones this weekend. OzBargain, you rock.

  • +6

I had such an epic day with my card! I firstly used an entertainment book voucher (from which I got for free from that IMB banking deal earlier this year), BOGOF meal, and then to discover they had a paywave terminal which made the deal even sweeter! Then I got some zumbaroons, and they also had a paywave terminal (for which I just met the minimum transaction amount required for eftpos/credit). Then I went to starbucks and got a $35 starbucks card because they have this deal where you top up your starbucks card with $35, and you get a free drink off the menu. Used paywave…and another 5% off!!!! Damn. It has been an epic day of bargains, if I say so myself! Am loving this card!

  • +4

Went to do my weekly shopping today at Coles and total was $170 or so, asked checkout operator to stop at $9x and start a new transaction, no probs at all :)

  • -1

May I know when should you be able to see the cash back amount? I bought something from Bunnings on Friday and today the description already show up as "Bunnings - xxx" but I still don't see any cash backs?

    • It should be there in the next line to the transaction description. If it's missing you should give ING a call to make sure you're getting the deal.

  • Can confirm the rebate is 100% valid for completely new customers to ING, I just got my 5% rebate from a $5 transaction at 7-11.

So everyone who said you have to be an existing customer, upgrading to the paywave service is wrong.
