I got one of these rice cooker, not very reliable, the seal leak just after the warranty period expired and I couldn't get it fix.

    • +2

Are you referring to the gasket around the lid?

What do you mean you couldn’t “get it fix”? You couldn’t get a replacement or you got a replacement and it didn’t fix your problem?

      They’re available to order here - https://cuckooworld.com.au/cover-packing-replacement-ring/

      • I think so, this caused the air not to release via the valve, so I'm not sure if it's the valve that is faulty too, so the air escapes to the side of the lid.

        • +3

Ok, so you haven’t replaced it.
Pretty simple then, order a new seal and have it fixed.

        • +1

Just buy the replacement seal… And U simply pull the old one out and put in the new one… Very easy… No screws or anything.

    • Here

Its lifespan was about 1 year I think.

    • +1

its normal for this to happen.. u have to replace the seal yourself… and its recommended to replace every year…

      same thing happened to mine…

except my rice cooker is now not working, i think the fuse inside gave up, not sure whether to try and fix or just buy a new one.

this is one of the downsides of the cuckoo, this annoying seal leak and it being so expensive.

      • I had tiger brand, and over 10yrs, no issue what so ever.

        • All my previous rice cookers were Tiger.. and it's a good rice cooker… But cuckoo is definitely a step above in features and performance at least

I eat rice pretty much daily lol

  • +1

I’ve only had mine for a couple of months and love it. Come from doing either stove top absorption method or microwave with a “rice cooker” container.
    Neither come close to this.

This also allowed to cook brown with confidence that it would come out great and not have to think about it time wise, just set to Gabba mode and leave it, you just select the time you want. Could have it set in the morning so it’ll be ready when you want it coming home later.

    • Thanks for the feedback :)

Just wondering if you wash the rice in the supplied pot or separately in another bowl?

      • +2

No, never wash in the pot as it will cause scratches. The Cuckoo user manual says to not wash in the bowl.

Another OzB user recommended this wash/straining bowl which I got - https://amzn.asia/d/g7Qt29e

        • thanks, will buy

  • For the rice cooker it says stainless steel pot but has x-wall coating so assume it has some sort of PFTE coating?

Seems like buffalo rice cooker from last sale has straight stainless steel. Any one have other recommendation for non coated pot rice cookers

    • Yea, it has a coating. If you follow the actual use and care instructions, it shouldn’t ever be an issue.
I’ve seen many pics of scratched pots and it clear they’ve been misused. Most common seems to be washing rice in the pot (abrasive) and or using metal utensils.

  • If you don't want to spend as much go for the pressure version without the IH. Will make rice just as good. Might take a few minutes longer.

  • How long does it take to cook 1-2 cups in this?

And is there a function to cook rice quicker? (for the times when you just need to cook quicker, even if it means the rice won't come out as well)

    • +1

Mine turbos white rice in 21 mins for 2 cups

      • I'm pretty sure turbo is faster than 20 mins… More like 12 mins

I don't use turbo unless I really have to… Rice doesn't turn out as good… Still good.. but not as good as normal mode

        • Yeh I try not to use it as well. I just remember the number that came up the other day when I had to cook some for my kid. Not sure if it actually took that long to cook.

          • +1

@Noppy: 2.5 cups of jasmine on the Gluten setting takes us 19mins. From memory it says 21mins when I start it, but it almost never actually takes as long as it says at the start.

Cup in terms of rice cooker is not cup in terms of western cooking. Rice cup is 180ml.

It’s recommended to cook a minimum of 2 cups, I plan to try cooking 1 and see what happens.

For the two is we usually cook 2.5 cups and reheat/fry the remaining rice at a later date.

2.5 cups of Jasmine will take about 19 mins, this can be set to turbo mode which I’ve not done, but think it takes about 11 mins.

  • Holy guacamole. Is the power station worth?
