never got into this show, is it worth it?

    • +32

watching the show is like someone standing on your neck.

      • -2

it's about as funny as a smelly fart in an elevator (not your own)

      • .

      • But for sure reason the pain feels good…So yes buy it

    • +4

It has a pretty weird sense of humour and it's not for everyone so it's really hard to say whether it's "worth it" to you or not. Watch this and see if it tickles your funny bone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLQzpCqTnvo

EDIT: Oh man I just watched that video I posted. I definitely like it more than I did when I was a kid. I got a proper chuckle out of it.

"It's a guy and a girl and they're discussing… a herd of beautiful wild ponies, running free across the plains."
        "…" -.-

        • +3

I'm pretty sure Daria created the -.- face haha.

      • Okay, you've got me hooked on this show now :)

        Thanks Johno07

Dead beat dad, back from the dead! And he still won't pay his child support!

      Or yes.

    Puts hand out….. Meh

I loved this show growing up, it's a certain humour though!

  • +2

One of my favorite shows, great price.

  • +1

    Awesome show! Cheap!

  • +3

bought it at jb when it was $40, at $25 its totally worth it.

  • +5

Totally worth it but not with the original soundtrack. if you can get your hands on them, well youll be spoilt. adds a little more to some of the scenes

    • the soundtrack is part of what made it, it put it in its time

      • +1

I didn't realize they changed the soundtrack on Daria . Glad my VHS still works, same with my beavis butthead

    • This. Makes me mad and refuse to buy it.

  • +7

IIRC, this release of the DVD stripped out most of the soundtrack since the music licenses ran out between its TV run and later release (similar to Freaks and Geeks).

Nonetheless, a great show. The humour's very dry and sardonic. If you enjoyed shows dealing with disaffected youth, then you'd enjoy this. It made proto-hipsters cool, before the name was even coined and mainstreamed.

    • Was it ever released with the original soundtrack?

      • +2

No, only bootlegs. Which are mostly pretty terrible.

        • Bummer! I used to love this show. I think I might still get it anyway at this price!

        • The first two seasons are… obtainable… in very good quality with original audio spliced in. I think one of the movies in this set might be slightly edited… I can't really remember.

That said, there's only one scene I can think of off the top of my head it makes a real difference in. (The REM song in the traffic jam).

Either way - definitely worth picking this up. I paid full RRP a week after release to import from Amazon US - I used to have them all taped on VHS except for one episode… so I taped over them all lol.. fail.

Can ya'll believe this used to be on ABC Kids? Oh, the 90's.

    • +2

i could have sworn i watched it on abc kids about 7-8 years ago…

      • +3

it ran until 2002 I think and was in reruns for a while after.

  • There is insufficient inventory to purchase 1 units of Daria: The Series Boxset (DVD).

    Still available in stores though.

  • +4

I am so torn on this one.

I've got all bar one episode on VHS taped off ABC (ie with original soundtrack). There were a few occasions when the soundtrack was (to me atleast) an integral part of the story.

If i had time on my hands i would buy the dvds for the quality and then edit in the original music and make my own dvds (and use them to take over the world of course).

    • Wow - dejavu… see my response above.. (1st two seasons are available.. but not widely with original audio)…

Looks like you had more common sense than me and didn't tape over everything just because you were missing one episiode :-D

      • Hey, i didn't know that about the first two seasons so very good to know.

        Thanks.

    • Where are you from? PM me, if you're somewhere nearby maybe we need to make a date with my well maintained VHS player, and video capture cables…..
      Original version ftw.

they need to re-release wayne manifesto onto dvd

    • YES.

    • no way freaky stories all the way

Just bought this in-store but I can't figure out how to get the discs out of the case or put them back in without the possibility of scratching or snapping the discs.

Seriously, if I want to get the last disc out, I have to remove 3 discs then put 2 back in without destroying them in the process.

    • +1

Yeah I got one of these when I had an ABC Shop gift card to use up… most awful case design I've ever seen, was scared I'd break every disc trying to get them out.

    • Agreed. It's rather difficult.
How're you supposed to take the discs out?

    • +3

JB HiFi has instructions for their package, here

      http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/animation/dari…

      • Cheers foundit.
You know there's a problem with the packaging if there needs be instructions!
I actually like the cardboard/plastic packing though. It's very nice. Only difficult to remove.

        • The packaging is absolutely hopeless. Already snapped three of the crummy clips. My advice, Remove all the discs and put in different case. Problem solved. Glad I didn't pay full retail $49

    • Mine had instructions inside of the box which told you how to get the discs out! I have never seen such horrible case design - they cheaped out on a proper case when they must be quite cheap nowadays :(

I feel like if I snap off the side clips permanently it potentially feels a lot less likely of breaking all the discs. Now how to do that…

  • Awesome find!!

so, im guessing its not pron?

    • +2

Depends if you think clothed animated teenagers not doing anything sexy is sexy I guess

      • +2

I'm sure a lot of us nerds found Jane sexy :)

  • retro stuff is loved

  • Just grabbed it from Chatswood Kmart. There are still 4 or 5 left. Note that they are in a glass cabinet and not on the TV shows shelves. Thanks OP.

  • +1

Think I took the last one from Burwood. They had none in Hurstville.

    • +2

Thanks for the warning :P I won't go to Burwood for it :)

  • Sigh….the good old days when they treated kids like intelligent beings……

  • Awesome! This brings back memories!

  • picked up the last one from kmart castle hill in the glass cabinet. great find. thanks.

  • Picked up a copy at Marrickville tonight - there's one more left in the cabinet I think.

  • Good price. My local Kmart at Warriewood has a few copies left today in the locked cabinet. They were stickered at $49. Didn't bother to check the price as the sales and service was non existent. So I just after 20 minutes without being served or getting any service.

  • boronia had 3 left. i dont kno why i checked cos i bought it last week.. but 3 copies there from 10.30pm today
