Yet another group buying rip off - Don't Get Memory Foam Mattress from Groupon

A HUGE "WTF" moment happened when i received this item (https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/national-deal/Homewarez/716… )from Groupon after only a 3 MONTH wait. I thought this would be amazing to get, as i had heard a lot of great stuff about memory foam,and since the price was (as it turns out,TOO MUCH SO ) GREAT ($3800 down to $479), i thought i'd give it a try.

WELL OZBARGAINERS, IF YOU ARE EVEN REMOTELY TEMPTED…… DON'T.

It came shrink wrapped, so we took it out,but it on our bedbase and noticed immediately…. IT WAS COMING APART (THE MEMORY FOAM TOP FROM THE CHEAP FOAM BOTTOM, our "wtf" moment). AND HAD COMPLETELY COME AWAY FROM 2 CORNERS. It was very ragged edged (cut by a child with scissors looking) and the entire edge was starting to lift.

I rang Groupon, who first off, said "contact the manufacturer… we don't make it, just sell for them", so that was ok… I'll contact them, if you can find the Homewarez contact page…. IT'S NON-EXISTANT (no "Contact Us" option on site, no phone number, no address….smell a rat now). So I rang Groupon again and FINALLY got somewhere, in the form of a phone number for this place. Again… good luck, it rings 3 times and then disconnects. After 8 attempts, I gave up and put an email to Groupon to fix this or the ACCC would love to be involved… It's now apparently being investigated.

So, moral to this is..if it's too good to be true… IT'S A RIPOFF… WITH NO CONTACT DETAILS TO COMPLAIN.

    A seller is required by law to provide warranty support. With these coupon sites, what is the ACCC position on whether they are the seller?

    If you paid by credit card, do a charge back.

    I brought something from cudo and they didnt supply so i asked for a refund after waiting more than 1 mth but they ignored my request and kept asking me to wait for it to arrive. (this dragged on for a few months) in the end cudo wrote back saying they would not refund as it is not in their policy. So i decided to complain to adma.
    Cudo refunded the next day.

  • WELL,WELL,WELL….AMAZING what a mention of the ACCC will do.I received an email from THE ACTUAL MANUFACTURER,HOMEWAREZ last night,asking for the pics and Groupon voucher pdf.Sent those and now awaiting reply.I am going to the bank however and asking about a chargeback on my credit card,as i have a feeling these people will tell us they'll replace the item…NOT refund (thanks,but NO THANKS).Still no address or contact details from this homewarez lot on the email at all,just a strange sounding email address (thegrailgroup.zendesk.com….huh?)

      No, no, no, not the manufacturer.

      Homewarez (and all the other sites) are just scam sites set up to inflate the perceived 'value' of the crap this guy 'pushes' via all the various 'group buy' sites.

      The domains/companies appear to have false info (such as the contact phone number). The domains are registered through Crazy Domains (one of the few registrars for .AU domains who do not check eligibility or correct contact info.) - There is a company listed as the owner, but the sites say a different company owns the sites. They domain names do not appear to be connected to these companies (eg. registered trading names etc.).

    • Oh yes Joannatan…15 of the things.I received an email yesterday from fair trading,who have contacted the seller,and asked them to contact me within 5 working days or if not,the will continue to pursue the issue.It seems so damn ridiculous that it has taken all this (not to mention 4 months and counting of emails,calls and the like) just to receive what is a basic consumer right.

    I suggest everyone call them and harrass them until they deliver on their promises and stopp ripping people off.

  • Has anyone out there been ripped off by Groupon? We went trekking in Nepal earlier this year on a deal that included accomm, meals and internal flights. Despite booking 5 months in advance, they managed to bugger up our flights and book them on the wrong day! This caused us to be stuck in a town 2,000m above sea level with no $$$, no working ATM, very few English speakers where we had to cover our own costs because the company didn't care! The only reason we got out after 3 days (and not be stuck there for a further 6/7 days), was to charter a $3,500 helicopter. The company and Groupon have taken '0' responsibility! I've been fighting with Groupon for over 5 weeks now and it's going know-where… NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

    They have this terrible customer service system where I can only ever speak to one girl! so if she's not around or doesn't respond, the case just sits there. I haven't heard anything for 2 weeks now and know-one else will speak to me, nor can I even get a name of another person to speak to because (it's been assigned to this particular person whose name I won't mention)!

    Any-one else feeling ripped off by Groupon right bout now?
