Save 15c/L on Fuel by Spending $100+ at Woolworths from Monday

130

Remember to use resources like ACCC graphs and Motormouth to find the best time to fill up in your area (only Perth has regular weekly cycles any more, every other major capital city has variable 1.5-2.5 week cycles). They say you've got 28 days to use these up (I find it's 29 days), so if you do a shop on Sun Oct 21 you'll have up until close of business Mon Nov 19 to use it.

Effectively you'll save $1.10 for every 10 litres you buy (seeing there's a minimum 4c available at any time).

Edit: credit to rekabkram, who says that you can buy 4 litres of milk for $5 when you pay for your fuel and get an extra 4c/L off. Therefore, if you usually pay $1/litre for milk, you make a 4c/L saving on every litre from the 25th onwards in one transaction.

Edit 2: Pdf not working for everyone, uploaded screencap

Note it does start on Monday despite the rest of the catalogue starting two days later.

To save 15c per litre on fuel at CALTEX WOOLWORTHS co-branded outlets, simply spend $100 or more in a single transaction (no transaction splitting is permitted at point of sale) at Woolworths Supermarkets from Monday 15th October 2012 until Sunday 21st October 2012 and surrender your fuel saving docket or present your Everyday Rewards card (not applicable in Tasmania) at any CALTEX WOOLWORTHS co-branded fuel outlet. Offer not available at Woolworths Liquor / BWS or CALTEX WOOLWORTHS outlets. Fuel discount valid for 28 days after purchase. Discounts not available on purchases of LPG at designated CALTEX WOOLWORTHS co-branded outlets or on any Caltex Starcard purchases. Woolworths Limited reserves the right to at any time suspend or terminate this offer. Regular fuel discount docket conditions apply. Purchases of Gift Cards (including iTunes cards) do not contribute to the qualifying amount. Smoking/Tobacco product purchases in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Australian Capital Territory are excluded from qualifying amount by law.

I'm sure everyone knows by now but if you spend $5 you get an extra 4c off - Great for picking up 2x 2L of milk for $5 (you only need to buy atleast 25L to pay supermarket prices).

Also love 5% off thanks to the entertainment book gift cards.

I know for myself this between the 15c off, milk and gift cards I'll save over $10 off petrol this week.

I'm sure everyone knows by now but if you spend $5 you get an extra 4c off -

i find if there is anything you really need, it's cheaper just to get it at the supermarket and forego the 4c per litre off…

(of course if you're getting 150 litres of fuel instead of 40 litres, the econimics are different)

      • +3

If I buy milk in the supermarket then it costs $4 for 4L.
If I buy milk while I'm filling up then it costs $5 for 4L.

I buy 60-65L at a time so that means I'm saving between $2.40 and 2.60.

So I see that as I'm paying $2.60 for 4L of milk or 65c per litre. It may only be a $1.40 saving but I don't have to go out of my way at all for it so why not.

Obviously this is different for each person depending on how much milk they need and how much they fill up but hence why I just said if you buy 25L then you are spending the same money, any more and your better off.

        • Thanks, added to summary :)

When buying milk from servos, pay particular attention to the use by dates.

      • 40 litres is a saving of $1.60, so as long as your $5 purchase doesn't cost you $3.40 at the supermarket you are ahead. 4 litres of milk is easy (60-65 litres, wouldn't it be easier to buy a cow? LOL)

    • Luckily I just had confirmation that my Wish gift cards are on their way and should get them sometime next week, I'd been waiting over a month urgh. I wish (no pun intended) they could at least send you the number+pin to tide you over until the physical card arrived but then I suppose that's less interest earned for them…

      • Why bother with cards then which can get lost in the mail etc?

        • I'd agree if there wasn't a registered post option I wouldn't bother, but the extra discount for something you'd buy anyway is hard to pass up.

Oh No, here comes another petrol price hike… :(

    • jv I reckon petrol in Melbourne will go up sometime mid-late next week, so you've got some time to fill up :)

time will tell, but i'm quite confident it will go up sunday night because of this deal…

was it all you hoped it would be…

      ba-da ba-da-da-da

  • i spent $92 and got 3x 8 cents off vouchers from Coles because i split the bill 3 times to get 3 vouchers. that was on 9 oct. not sure save 8 cents per li every $30 spend offer is still on. that was better deal then

  • I usually go to supermarket twice a week, but I never spent more than $100 in one transaction.
Not even if I total my weekly spending on supermarket.

    • +1

The whole idea is to get people to buy things they don't really need so they can get the fuel voucher.

    • Woolies is slowly conditioning me to only get what I have to until there's another 15c/L offer. Then I'll stock up a bit on specials / things that don't change price much but are used quickly enough and get 1 or 2 vouchers depending on when the last offer finished, given they're valid for 29 days.

      Here's the last few:

      Fri 31 Aug - Fri 07 Sep [8 days]
Tue 18 Sep - Sun 23 Sep [6 days] 11 days since last offer
Mon 15 Oct - Sun 21 Oct [7 days] 22 days since last offer

All these 15s keep reminding me of all the 15% off storewide sales Target and Kmart used to have…

I usually drive 2 cars to the station and fill up over 100L of petrol. Just tell the guy that you're paying for 2 pumps at the same time and both will receive the discount.

This means that if I fill up 100L of petrol and buy 2 x 2L milk at the servo for $5, I get an extra 4 cents off per litre which saves me $4 in petrol. Therefore the net cost of the milk is just $1 or 50 cents for each 2 litre bottle.

The ideal situation would be if you fill up 150L of petrol, which means you would save $6 in petrol if you buy the 2 bottles of milk for $5. In this particular case, the net cost to you is -$1, so it means that they are paying you $1 to buy the 2 cartons of milk.

Now who said paying $1 per litre of milk is cheap? Play it right and they'd pay you to take their milk.

      Good idea.
Now…time to look for 2nd car so I can get more bargain :)

      • Buy a car for $30,000 and you only have to do this 30,000 times and you would have gotten your car for free! :D

    • Just tell the guy that you're paying for 2 pumps at the same time and both will receive the discount.

      read the conditions…

      the voucher says per vehicle

There is a limit of one fuel saving voucher can be redeemed per vehicle for a fuel purchase of up to 150 litres. For the full terms of use please visit woolworthspetrol.com.au

      • Oh well, I've never had any issues doing that and I've done it quite a few times already.

        • that doesn't mean you will keep getting away with it…

Both Coles and Woolies have the same condition, one vehicle per voucher…

        • +2

Those conditions don't apply to dragonhawk's scheme. 'One voucher per vehicle' i.e. you can't use 2 vouchers per vehicle. It does not mention 'one vehicle per voucher'

        • Same with the '150l' limit.

Ive pumped 3400l of diesel and still recieved the discount (had a 20c coupon at the time) not a bad way to save 680 odd bucks.

    • Play it right and they'd pay you to take their milk.

Actually, they're making a lot more out of the petrol you pay them, than they are losing on the milk…
You lose because you are being overcharged on your petrol…

      • Well, I didn't actually mean that you would earn money doing it, just that you would save a bit more money because you need to put petrol anyway.

Different story if you don't need petrol at all.

        • +1

just that you would save a bit more money

you'd save a lot more money if we had some real competition and not the Coles/Woolies duopoly of price fixing…

        • Agreed, but we are in the world we are in. All we can do is play the hand that we've been dealt.

      • -1

I crack up laughing when servos try and make out that they make less than 2c per litre on petrol.

Petrol would be a lot cheaper though if the government stopped double dipping. We pay 38c per litre tax plus 10% of the total inc. taxable.

So if your paying $1.40 per litre then then 88cents goes to the servo and 52cents goes to the government.
It would be nice if they could pump that money into abolishing toll roads and improving current ones.

        • @rekabkram, the fuel excise is charged at the gate, not at the servo, so the servo pays 1.34l (gate price currently at Clyde) so ontop of that you pay GST, delivery costs and overheads. So on the 'cheap' days they can infact go into the red as their sale cost is lower then the wholesale cost. But for Woolies/Coles, this is fine because as mentioned its all about funneling people into their supermarkets, where they make the profits.

      • +1

They make <3c per liter of fuel currently once you take into account the gate price + shipping costs, not to mention overheads (staff costs, maintenance, security, electricity etc) They tend to make their money via items instore, and using the discount coupons to entice people to their supermarkets.

  • are you able to post the rest of the catalogue?

  • Is this carbon neutral?

  • It should be 12c disc all the time. How much was a litre of petrol back when they introduced the 4c off. 4c off now a days is a joke, seeing how their base price is usually higher also :-(

    • yep, they will issue 50c vouchers soon enough and just inflate the prices to compensate.

Toothless ACCC. Biggest rippoff ever. The 2 big supermarket chains are our modern mafia.

    • Google has quite a few petrol station boards on streetview from 3-4 years ago… I'd suggest don't look ;)

  • Coles offer is better. spend $30 and save 8 cents per lt until 31st Oct

  • I grab 150L a time, with 2 cars and a couple of gerry cans.

This way Im maximing out my savings.

$28.50 with the additional 4c discount when spending $5 for bread or milk.

  • How predictable that as soon as this starts prices go up 20 cpl.

    • Still the same price here in Newie (150c per L) and Sydney last night was the same (136.5) So yeah.

    • Wait until the petrol price hits the low point again before using the 15c discount.

When is petrol at its lowest price? This site will give you some idea. It lists the wholesale price paid at the terminal today.
