Bose QuietComfort 45 SE $249 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

1381

Bose QuietComfort 45 SE @ JBHiFi for $249. From what I’ve read the only difference between these and the normal QuietComfort 45 is the case so decent deal if someone can do without a hard case.

And you can buy a hard case for about $19.99

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185789907204?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

    • Have you got one of these cases? I see it's not a genuine Bose one, so just wondering if it is a good fit/decent quality.
      Thanks 😊

    • Qc35 came with this case, surprised the qc45 is missing it. The case is very good, protected my headphones for many years.

      • +1

Qc45 DOES come with the excellent hard case - this one posted is the Qc45 SE, which is the same headphones MINUS the hard case. Each to their own if they want the hard case or not

  • So does SE stand for special edition or soft edition?

It's a shame that rtings hasn't tested the SE to confirm or deny it's the same as 45
    .

  • So its 45, 45 se and se. 3 models?

    • +4

I spoke with a Bose rep via live chat a few days ago and sent them the JB Hifi link and they confirmed JB's "45 SE" is the same as "SE" on the Bose site - and furthermore, according to the rep technical spec wise SE is the same as the 45 the only difference being the absence of the hardcase. The Bose rep did mention there is a 30 day trial / free return policy and the site offered free shipping so I went and bought it from Bose which I received yesterday - I gotta say I am fairly happy with the product but may buy a hardcase so it doesn't get damaged. I will trial the headphone for another week or so before making up my mind if I want to keep it or return it though.

      • +2

Seriously? What a stupid naming system if the only difference is literally a case. It should all be called the same thing and then just bundle
        It with different cases.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading from my 35 QC II’s, but the naming makes it super unclear which is the best one at the moment.

        • +2

The upgrade is definitely worth it. I loved my 35's but the 45's are much better.

Only downside is the soft case and that they got rid of the button you could assign to use Alexa - as far as I know anyway.

      • Thanks for confirming. I got my se from the recent student Beans + black Friday deal. Was afraid that was different to this.

  • +12

What a shame……they hold back for black friday and then discount now. Sorry JB, someone else already got my money.

    • +3

I agree. I’d have preferred to buy from JB, but already bought from Amazon on Black Friday.

    • +9

I bought from Bose. And for $209 w/ student beans discount using an alumni email.

    • +1

You have to keep your eyes open with Black Friday. The CentreCom Synology 923+ price on Black Friday was higher than the previous week by 5%

    • I got JB to price match Bose stacking with Amex’s Black Fri JB $100/20 cashback offer, ended up being $209

      • Can you please expand as I am trying to get Bose to.price match NB so that I can use the student bean discount. But the Bose web chat is telling me to buy at the advertised proce and come back for refund

        • +1

I showed JB the published price from Bose website which was $249. Used my Amex to charge 2 x $100 to get the extra $40 discount as part of Amex black Fri deal

    Same price at Amazon

  • +1

Worth the change over from well worn pair of QC35II’s?

    • +13

If your headphones are otherwise in good condition, you can get replacement pads for about $15-20. They’re really easy to fit.

      • +1

        But not the headband.

      • -2

*$15-20 for pads that fit from amazon, but they don't feel the same. $40 for the real thing at JB HI FI. Having a part that wears out so easily and then charging far above cost for a replacement is actually the reason I will never buy Bose headphones again, or recommend them to anyone.

        I recommend Sennheiser instead.

    • +5

Just buy some new ear pads and save your $

    • +1

      USB C
      Longer battery life (?)
Potential firmware differences but it might not make any practical difference

    • +4

yeah. im not even upgrading my QC25II's replaced the ear pads and they are fine

      • +2

I'm in the same boat, but having a cable is getting to me 😆

      • +2

I’ve had my qc25s since about 2016. I love them. Replaced the pads a few years back and they’re like new.

I finally but the bullet on Black Friday and have upgraded to the QC SEs as the chord was starting to get to me.

The 25s will get handed down to the kids.

        • +1

Oh maybe I mean the 35s then. mine are wireless

    • +4

For me ANC is better than QC35 II

      • +6

I've to agree with this comment. I find that even the passive noise isolation is very slightly better. Besides, my 35 II had a minor battery related issue so Bose actually replaced it with the 45 for free. They've won me over as a lifetime and loyal customer with this level of support.

        • Impressive. Where did you buy from? how much was left on warranty? Thanks.

          • +2

@Naigrabzo: I originally got it from the Qantas store, but the item was out of warranty. Bose nevertheless sorted it out exceeding my expectations. They even paid for me to post the 35 II back to them!

It's a known battery issue that Bose replaces QC 35 II for (I suggest searching the web about it).

        • How did you contact Bose?

            • @CocaKoala: Tried the Reddit steps. Bose close the free replacement now. It offers discounted Bose QuietComfort Headphones for $375.00.

              • +1

@BuyNow Think Later: Comments as late as Oct 2023 state they received a refurbished pair after chatting with customer service. May be they have closed the free replacement, I'm not entirely sure.

            • @CocaKoala: Happy to hear this helped some people out. I still felt bummed that Bose made it so hard to find and never did a recall or acknowledged it

              • @poglet: My understanding is that not every unit was affected by the issue, so a recall might have been excessive. I'm not sure why you think they didn't acknowledge it. They went out of their way to replace QC 35 II units that were even out if warranty with a brand new model that's better and of higher value.

    • +1

      Probably not https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/q0l43x/review_of_qc_4…

I was tempted to get these, but it seems like Bose quality isn't what it could be.

  • How do these rate against apple airpords

    • +44

      Username checks out

  • +1

The repairability of these is really poor. The Sony's look much easier to swap the battery pack.
Don't need a heat gun and a knife.

    • +7

From a sample size of one (me), I've used a pair of QC35 for the last six, nearly seven, years. Taken them around the world a few times over, earpads have come and gone, headband is looking a bit scuffed but that battery is a trooper.

    • +1

the top of the headband craps out before the battery and it's a btch to replace on the xm3/4

  • +1

If Bose price matches on their website, you can you studentbeans code

  • +2

Awesome. I use these on the train just with ANC and no music. Bliss.

  • Hmm. I was looking at these or the qc ultras. Worth it for the almost $350 price difference..?

    • +8

I tried out the Ultras at JB recently and IMO I felt like Spatial Audio was more of a gimmick. Maybe useful for watching movies. Definitely doesn’t justify the price diff. Trust!

      • Thank you! Appreciate it

  • Is it type C ?

  • +1

    I've still got a wired pair 😞

    • +1

      You are a Legend

    • That's the way. 👍

  • -4

From googling it it looks like these headphones don't allow you to turn ANC off, which is a deal breaker for me.

    • +4

Got a pair, you can turn it off.

      • I don't think it's an actual ANC off, more like ANC passing sound through. It's still active just turned to the minimum. You can still tell the difference if headphones are on or off. At least this is with the 700's, I'd be surprised if it were any different with the QC45

        • Can confirm it's the same with QC45.

  • +7

Bose replaced my 6 years old QC35 to QC45 after developing the power switch problem for free. A+ Customer Service.

    • You've inspired me to ask about my battery problem on my 6yo QC35'S!

    • HOLY MOLY!!!

    • How did you contact Bose?

    • Can you please share what you had to do, and do you have to show proof of issue?

  • +1

How are these vs the Sony WH XM4’s?

    • +6

Not exactly the same but I've been using these for the past couple of weeks after using XM3s for the past 4 years and decided to go for the cheaper option rather than trying for the Sony upgrade option.

I'd say the major difference is the sound profile is extremely different. The Bose seem to have a wider, more balanced sound profile as opposed to Sony's bass heaviness. Bose wins for the comfort factor with the clamping force being less; i can definitely wear these for longer without my ears or head getting sore. ANC seems on par. Thought i'd miss the touch controls of the Sonys but it's not that bad having physical buttons.

All in all, they're not bad at all, just different, and a great deal if you can get them for $210. I think i prefer to watch TV with the Bose but would choose Sony if listening to music.

      My 2c.

  • +6

No different to the other qc45 we own, detects as qc45, sounds the same when listening to the same music. Just a soft case instead of hard case. $210 student beans deal.

    • Hi, how did you manage to buy at $210 using student beans? Got told by bose i can only use one either pricematch or student beans.

      • It's $249 off the Bose website, use a Student Beans code to get $40 off?

      • It’s in bose website and apply beans code at the checkout.

      • The student beans code stacks with the price of 249.95
