Better to buy direct from Apple with no plan using discounted GCs?

    • Would Apple pricematch Amaysim or Costco ?

      • No i have tried

        • +3

For Apple it’s depends who you get. I got them to give me 10% off for the normal iPhone 15 using amaysim. You might have to ring a few times and try.

          • @j1568: What I can only see is $200 off. Could you please share how you manage to get 10% off? Thanks

            • +1

@AdamJ9: It was the pervious deal Amaysim had.

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809059

As $200 was more than 10% off iPhone 15, apple maximum discount they can give is 10%. However, it’s really your luck on who you get on the phone. What I noticed is that if you get someone from overseas call centre you have higher chance they will price match or give 10% off. Some people have tried calling few times with no success, but then you have people like me who called up first time and got it.

              • @j1568: Got it. I would like to buy pro max which is less than 10%. Haha I will give it a call tomorrow. Thanks.

              • @j1568: Tell them that Gerry was overstocked and dying to sweeten the deal
I told some Telstra rep that I got thrown out of JB because I was 30 days off Telstra instrad of 31. I did receive a very sweet deal!
On to OW then back to Apple
                worth the calls!
Btw Apple does free interest to tease moron gerry!

          • @j1568: Academia.edu insists that my fake degree is real.
Anybody had any luck with the Apple ed store?

          • @j1568: I didn't realize you could call Apple to order an iPhone. Is it the number 133-622 that you used?

            • +2

@ichijyo: Yes it is, buy gift cards when they come on sale (10-15% off) > Add to Apple account > Call Apple > Ask to match these discounts > Pay by Apple account balance > Enjoy your 15+10 or 10+10 percent off. :)

              • @Apostle0748: Sorry for asking, do you just call apple (133-622) and tell them that amaysim has a promotion offer going on and ask if they can match the price?
How do you show them the promotion page? And how do you pay from apple balance, do you just give them your email address that you use for your apple account?
                Never done this before.
                Thank you in advance.

                • @embi: Yes it’s 133622 to talk to a rep. You can providing the name of store (amaysim in this case), they will check for you. The rep will deduct the amount from your account (based on your Apple ID email). Sadly I got refused by a rep just then. Maybe just no luck. She said amaysim is not in the retailer list. I will try it again or go to the store to check

                  • @AdamJ9: yes, I also got rejected 4 times. Can you price match in store as well?
Would you please keep me up to date if you succeeded?

                    Thank you for the response.

                    • @embi: They rejected me with same response in store (syd). Only Harvey Norman, JB and few others are eligible for price match. I guess we have to wait for another Harvey Norman bonus gc or Amazon promotion?

                      • @AdamJ9: I see, it's too bad. Maybe I will try again tomorrow.
                        Thank you for the help.

                        • @embi: I hope it’s not too late. You can ask for price match for a 10% today via Harvey Norman. I just did actually.

                          • @AdamJ9: Thank you very much for the update. I already bought it for a xmas present. Can't ask them for it back 😂. Did you price match harvey norman deal at Apple ? Or did you ask Harvey norman to price match amaysim?

                            Thank you and Merry Christmas

                            • @embi: I asked Apple to price match HM for 10% off. Stacked with my discounted gift card lol. Merry Christmas

              • @Apostle0748: Thanks @Apostle0748 :D

                • @ichijyo: Trick is to get the offshore call centre, they are more lenient in this regard (however, they may have since passed around an internal memo to block stores outside major ones).

But I'd say try again - I was lucky to get mine first time, trying in store is less likely to produce results - staff have to check with floor manager, floor manager knows that it's only major stores.

    • where to get discounted cards? anyone offering more than 5 percent?

      • Last week woolworths&big w, this week coles…. check the 20 x reward points promotion

    Would OW price beat amaysim…?

    • +3

Not last time I tried due to sign up to plan

  • Does this create a credit enquiry as part of the new plan signup?

    • No, since they’re all technically Pre-Paid.

  • -5

Good luck with Amaysim ignorant overseas call center trolls, they don't even know how to follow their own scripts!
Who is so mad to waste $2,000 on a phone and put in a garbage service provider?

    • Amaysim is owned by floptus now. The Optus' Boost.

      • The Optus' Boost

Optus doesn't look good either LOL

      • OMG and they are in bed with Moron Gerry!
        Hell$tra where are you?

    • +2

      Just get the phone?

  • +1

G62 isn’t bad at $199 (not the lowest ever but close to it).

  • +5

Not sure what the hate is all about. You get to choose your own number. I don’t have any problems with them. Good price, good service. I couldn’t care less if they’re an Optus MVNO. It’s not like Telstra and Vodafone are saints.

    • +1

Agree. Much better than Coles as an Optus MVNO.

  • +1

is it possible to claim gts back at the airport? Flying overseas soon.

    • Should be possible, but you'd need to declare it when returning.

  • You bloody gem, this is perfect! (Already with Amaysim haha YES)

  • +2

You could just buy this, and then not use the SIM card, right?

  • dam.. looks like I missed the Coles 20x.. seems expired? :'(

  • Anyone know if Amaysim iPhones are AU stock (i.e. not grey imports)?

Do you get a tax invoice with these phones with ABN and customer address so you can claim TRS / EOFY tax rebates?

I contacted Amaysim and got a hopeless response on both queries…

    • they are international model according to Amaysim so I called the Apple customer care and they were able to confirm this is Australian stock with local warranty.

    • same question, im going oversea on 25/1 and want to claim TRS from this deal, not sure if i can

      • Have successfully claimed but had to chat with customer service to get a proper invoice

      • +1

Ended up price matching OzMobiles at Officeworks. Cost me about $12 more than this deal in the end for a 512GB pro max. I was unconvinced by the warranty coverage of Amaysim iPhones (12 months vs 24 months). It’s probably ok with Amaysim / Apple but I didn’t want to risk it with a phone I’ll use for well over 3 years. Plus pickup and a tax invoice is straightforward with OW.

        • In case it helps someone out here’s Amaysim’s response to me on the warranty and tax invoice stuff:

          1. iPhone bundle offer online are Australian stock. There's a 30-day warranty repair with amaysim from the day you purchase the phone, and it has a 1-year warranty with Apple.

          2. Yes, for the tax invoice request, we need to raise an escalation on this, but it requires an authentication approval on your end that can only be done by contacting us via LiveChat or call us on 1300-808-300.

        • I have missed out on that OzMobiles deal :(

          • @at91: I don’t think OW are price matching OzMobiles any more as OzMobiles don’t list the model number etc.

Try price matching DigiDirect with OW. They’re cheaper than OW so you’ll get a 5% price beat. Quite a few models in stock from what I just saw. Will work out a bit more than this deal, but you also don’t have to deal with Amaysim…

            DigiDirect

  • Tried big stores and they wouldn't price match and they had low or no stock on the pro max. So if you need one for Christmas hard to beat this.

Of course it's classic scarcity marketing by Apple. Have to admit I thought this proprietary scam would collapse by now when there are androids for half the price but it's human nature. I'm happy with a mid-range android but the kids and wife just want Apple.

  • This might be a dumb question but what's wrong with buying from Amaysim, getting a 1mo package and then moving on after if needed? Still get the savings (albeit paying for 1 mo plan), Aussie retailer owned by #2 telco so can't really dodge consumer protections, if it is Australian stock then you can still get AppleCare from Apple. They're buying customers and hoping they can keep them. What am I missing?

    • People are looking to price match amaysim at places like Apple, JB, TGG and then use discounted giftcard to buy them, saving an extra 10-15%.

      • Didn't work for Pro Max at least, I tried. For example, TGG said "We don't price match Telcos", although maybe because they have no stock. Bought from Amaysim, all colours in stock, received tracking already.

      • ah I see, thanks

  • Will JB pricematch Amaysim? got some gift cards to use.

  • Offer is still valid
