Excellent game - the Castle design is a masterpiece and the score is awesome. Is a crime that it was snubbed from even a single nomination at this years game awards. Thankfully the Brits have a stiffer upper lip and have nominated it for a bafta this year.

Also notable that this is the first year since 2009 that the best selling game isn’t either a call of duty game or a rockstar game.

Pretty special feat by the wonderful Hogwarts game devs! They deserve recognition imo - especially in light of the disgusting behaviour of many leftist NPCs regarding this game over the course of the year.

    • +3

It was a ridiculous year for games, and Hogwarts came out at the start of the year which is always hard. I'll agree though, it probably deserved at least a nomination for sound/art direction.

I was shocked at the amount of negs for this comment. I just looked up some of the public discourse around this game (I care very little for the Harry Potter series, never been a fan) and was horried. The amount of attack towards the game Devs, people trying to ruin their jobs and livelihoods was astonishing…and over what?? A difference of opinion? People ought to be ashamed of themselves. A good hard working dev, created a seemingly great game. They deserve all the praise they get.

      • +4

        Yep… a very vocal 0.001%

      • +7

It's likely the commenter got a lot of negs because of his previous comment on Hogwarts Legacy vs Alan Wake 2: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14719188/redir

          Oh, hahaha!

        • +2

It's true that some people dislike this game because they don't like JKR's politics, but there are absolutely 100% people that simp over this game because they like JKR's politics. Both equally dumb.

        • -6

The downvote bombing and comment brigading on that fairly brief and harmless comment yesterday just proved how unhinged many leftists are about this issue. They definitely need to be called out for this attitude - even by other people who otherwise lean left but recognise how unhinged some have become about it.

          • +4

@Gamer Dad Reviews: It's not a political problem though. Games are inherently non-political (unless actively seeking to be a political game). Hogwarts Legacy doesn't have a left or right leaning agenda and just because it didn't get nominated for awards doesn't mean the 'left' was involved, it just means it didn't deserve to be nominated.

Was it popular? Yes, no one is disagreeing with that, but did it deserve nominations? No, I really don't think so. Starfield was also really popular this year and it also didn't get nominations.

2023 was smashed with amazing games (BG3, Zelda: TotK, FF16, AW2, SpiderMan 2, Super Mario Wonder, the list goes on), any other year Hogwarts and Starfield could have had nominations and even possibly awards, but 2023 was not their year

@hobbsey1: Idk I just had to read an article to see what she really said, she just said only people born a woman can menstruate is that not scientifically correct? She also said she respects trans peoples rights and would march with them but doesn't deny the fact that being born a certain sex will have different experiences to the opposite sex. Am I missing something or are people mad just because she said only born women can menstruate?

                • @lookingforadeal7: This article does a decent job of covering it. Basically she is profoundly and deeply transphobic and she is absolutely obsessed as well. Easily 90% of her posting on social media reaffirms that she is transphobic. The "March with them" comment was a loooong time ago and she's radicalized massively since then. She doesn't stand with trans people conditionally anymore and is basically pursuing a full elimination ideology now.

                  https://www.vox.com/culture/23622610/jk-rowling-transphobic-…

                  • @hobbsey1: Can you share with me what you think is the worst thing she's ever done to trans people? (Apart from share/express an opinion?) I'd like to see an example of what you consider to be "profoundly and deeply transphobic".

                    • @ifreddo: Mate if you don't understand how being the world's most famous and richest children's author and also being an extremely vocal transphobe is a disaster for trans rights I dunno what to tell you. She funds transphobes across the UK and is politically active - she campaigns and spends lots of money in sadly highly effective campaigns to withdraw rights and freedoms and healthcare from trans people. Real world harms.

                      • @hobbsey1: Okay. Don't answer my question, thanks. Another uninformed troll just buying into media garbage.

                • -2

@lookingforadeal7: Trans dudes and non-binary people menstruate as well, she's mocking language that includes those people. That's transphobic by definition cuz language that is inclusive doesn't actually harm cis women at all, and the only way you can be upset about 'people who menstruate' is if you don't think trans people should exist.

              • -1

@hobbsey1: Totally agree with hobbesy that everything is now political. It didn’t used to be - but society has changed. Especially since 2020.

  • how did u get Amazon to price match? ive always got a no we dont price match response from their live chat.

  • +1

Too expensive. $19 in another 2 months.

    • +2

      Not for this game mate.

      • -2

        yes it will

        • +1

No it won’t. It has become the highest selling game of 2023. Why would they need to drop price?

  • +1

Same price for xbox series X|S too

  • +1

This game is so boring that you'll forget you own it after 3 months.

    • -3

My friend was a huge HP fan, got so hyped and bought a PS5 just for it to end up playing it for a couple days and that's it. Best selling dust collectors of 2023 (seriously why is it always the bad games that are best selling?)

      • -2

Exactly. This will be sitting in bargain bins in no time.

It amazes me everytime that some people are willing to pay more than $20 for such POS.

        • -2

I could tell by the trailers it was going to be shit, environment and atmosphere and music were all done great but the gameplay is the same thing over and over again with no room for anything different to happen in combat. Elden Ring did magic better and that's not even it's main focus.

        • +7

I’m not even a huge HP fan but I put in over 60 hours in this game. It looks beautiful, sounds amazing and it’s really fun. I’m not a big rpg fan and this is light on that stuff which is perfect for me. Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean everyone else will too.

      • -3

because people are idiots, they only love it because they are a fan of the series. over hyped marketing and sell all types of terds.

    • -4

A lot of people really like it, such as this popular Youtube reviewer - https://youtu.be/F6hUVlg_Pk8?si=6YIs_vxmCVNuXq_Q

      • -1

Nobody is giving your channel clicks buddy.

      • "a lot of people" are we talking millions of people or just 10?

        • If it was rubbish - like the gollum game is - it wouldn’t have sold hardly any copies. The reason why it was so successful is because it was good and people had fun playing it and told their friends and so their friends bought it as well.

    • +2

Yeah, I found this fun for a few hours but then everything felt very samey after that. You basically solve the same 5 puzzles and fight the same 5 enemies over and over. Though lots of games have this issue, e.g. Mad Max was super boring to me but it got tons of praise.

      • Still ten times better gameplay than Alan Wake 2 though, by all reports

  • The prices of games are ridiculous these days, peg leg and eye patch is the only way otherwise you're just burning $1000 every year to trial games that end up being incomplete on release. That's before sub prices etc. basically if you want to consume media these days and have variety you probably could have gone overseas for the same cost.

    • +3

Prices are actually very reasonable these days. I remember mum paying $125 for Pokemon Stadium on release. How's that with inflation?

      • +1

Cartridges more expensive to produce, the start of consoles so limited knowledge and limited tech. Not selling near as much so not making in bulk. Will all affect the cost. Now factor in cost of living back then vs wages to cost of living vs wages now and you'll find that $125 for the game was more affordable than $100 today. Inflation is only one number to factor in, there's so much more to look at to get the full picture.

      • In 1999 when Pokemon stadium released 70% of households were owner occupied. 39% of that 70% didn't have a mortgage. Minimum wage was about $350 and the average mortgage was $44 a week!! The average household living expenses for renters (only about 20% of the population) were around $130 a week. So when your mum and dad tell you they had it hard cause they only earned $10 an hour maybe give them a quick lesson lol.

      • Also it's designed this way so as years go on you don't feel so bad and there's the illusion that your money is more valuable now when in reality it's been losing value

    • Mate you need to stay away from PS, PS games are just overpriced compared to Xbox and Steam.
Let along you could buy games from other regions easily on these platforms, which are way cheaper than AU prices.

  • Not bad

  • Thanks, don't forget to stack with Preeze Christmas gift card

  • If you don't mind PC, it cheaper on Epic.
