UK and Euro Travel SIM

Hi OzBargain members, hope you are enjoying your Christmas break.

I am travelling UK and few European countries coming Saturday. I am late to buy a SIM from Australia.

Which is the best way to get a SIM card? I will be spending 2 weeks in Europe. Buying a SIM at London Heathrow Airport or request my friend to buy a sim from local shop or supermarkets?

Thanks In Advance

  • UK 3 sim available at LHR will give you 30 days of connectivity and 12 gig plus 1000 mins of UK number phone calls

If you have a phone that accepts eSIM then https://tripsim.com.au/

    • Thanks for the information , Unfortunately my phone is not compatible with esim.

  • Airport sim will cost more than a regular sim from the supermarket. If you can survive without connectivity until you meet your friend then you should ask them to get one for you.

    • Yes , you are correct , I will ask my friend to buy one

  • I've been in europe the last month and used GoMoWorld - https://gomoworld.com

20 euros for 50gb over 30 days, eSim only. Was skeptical because it seemed like the cheapest option and couldn't find much info on it, but no complaints!

    • Thanks for the information , Unfortunately my phone is not compatible with esim.

  • I travel to Europe a fair bit, mostly use prepaidsims.com.au. they have a traditional disposable SIM which I slot into my dual SIM phone upon landing, auto activated, about $25 for my needs.

  • Smarty or Giffgaff are good in the UK. The EU is much harder as most UK companies limit data when roaming in the EU to 12GB.

For that short a time either a simsdirect.com.au one (or two) or a couple of Smarty, Giff gaff or one of each (hard to estimate how much data you'll need).

Or a Three sim available on Amazon.

As you cant do E-sims you could take an old phone for your Australian sim to get sms's (which you don't need roaming for) just in case a credit card needs to send you a code for a transaction.
