Turntable with Bookshelf Speakers $49.00 (was $159) + Shipping @ Kmart

290

Sleek and minimalistic, this unit is easy to assemble and perfect for the entertainment corner of the house.

This turntable with bookshelf comes with woodgrain finish and will add a touch of elegance to any home decor.

if this was $50 in store, I'd buy it for the speakers alone but its online only, so I'll probably try my luck on the cassette player and hope its the new stereo version

For anyone considering this - don't play any rare albums off of it, it may be alright but you just don't know if it's going to damage your vinyls or not.

obviously you wouldn't play a record that costs more than the record player, this is more of a novelty or for thrift store records

      • +6

That's pretty much every record you'd buy today… and I thought craft beer was an expensive habit 😄

        • Oh yes! They've jumped drastically since I was buying them en masse.

    • Everytime you play a vinyl, it gets 'damaged'.

That's why it never sounds exactly the same everytime you play it.

      • +2

I mean yes technically correct but you'll have it play almost indefinitely on a decent turntable as opposed to this which would (assumably) destroy it a lot sooner.

Record player $49 but shipping $56 …nah think I’ll pass lol

Piece of junk. Destroyer of records

  • Plus delivery. This product is excluded from free delivery.

Shipping cost almost as much as the price tag kills it - OnePass free delivery excluded

  • More of a style reference to a standard 70's record player although the scale of the platter looks weirdly undersized.
That crappy plastic turntable will absolutely ruin records.

  • +2

To all those haters who think all cheap/suitcase type record players will ruin every record they play should watch Record-ology channel on YouTube. He reviews all kinds of entry level record players like this and concludes. Although some track a bit heavy will certainly not destroy records and may not sound as good as much higher end players. Although with the cost of new records these days. Certainly wouldn't be playing them on these type of players. Only older and cheap used records.

"will certainly not destroy records" - this is wrong.
Cheap and nasty record players with heavy, uneven tracking force combined with cheap stylus will definitely destroy records. https://www.upbeatgeek.com/do-portable-record-players-ruin-v…. Discretion and hatred are different things.

      • What do you recommend as I'm looking at getting an LP record player

    • +4

I work in a record store and 9/10 when someone complains that a record sounds warped or damaged, they are playing it on a piece of garbage like this. people bring these in for 'repair' and theres nothing to fix, they are just rubbish by design.

you can get refurbished Audio Technica LP60X/BT (yes, bluetooth) or USB for around half retail price in their ever-expanding project that stops them going to landfill.

  • just a decent stylus box/packaging costs more than this junk

uses cheap mech so i would not get this. they are like $10 from china. you are paying 40 for the rest. speakers might be the best part

Here is Techmoan unloading on this exact mechanism:

  • Can anyone please recommend me a semi-decent / budget turntable? I've been having a look recently, but I don't think that there are any good deals going right now.

    cheers

(Disclaimer: I have basically zero expertise on the subject, had a bit of a crash course in the lead up to Christmas myself but welcome any input from those more knowledgable.)

If you have access to Good Guys Commercial the Audio Technica AT-LP60 ATLP60XUSBBK is $179. Fixed counterweights but fully automatic.
The Monster MT-TT01 was recently on sale for around $175 I think, again fixed counterweights and only semi-automatic.
I ended up getting the mbeat MB-PT-18K which was on sale for $200. Adjustable counterweight/anti-skating but fully manual. Admittedly not a brand I associate with quality gear and I wouldn't have paid more for it but it seems ok so far. Seems to also be sold under the brand Lenco

They all come with the same decent budget cartridge. I liked the idea of adjustable counterweights but in hindsight, when stylus needs replacing it'll likely be the same so fixed might have been fine, I don't know. Fully auto would have been useful (or at least auto-return). Unfortunately there was/is no stock of the LP60 near me anyway, kinda like the wood finish though and it has Bluetooth output (the idea of taking the warmth of an analog source and compressing over crappy BT doesn't make sense to me though but it's there.)

I initially bought this JVC for around $100 from Big W (now disappeared off their site) before reading about the cheapo mechanism they use so couldn't do it, even for kids gift.

PS, came across this for a laugh.

WTF would you want vinyl in the first place other than for novelty value and if you have money to burn or if you've amassed a collection of vinyl records?

  • If this is all you can afford, you can't afford vinyl. Don't destroy your records.
