What does flight length have to do with how much luggage you check in?

      • -7

Was going to say. When i went to greece the included baggage was 2x 23KG. Must be an airline thing. So i don't know really.

        • -5

Ya, I think its airline thing.
I remembered its 2x 23kg before for such distanced destinations.

      • To carry chopper (plane) fuel!

        • +8

I understand this logic when it's say a few days vs a couple of weeks, but beyond that what do you need to take on a 6 week trip that you don't take on a 2 week trip?

        • +5

          Find a laundromat

          • +3

@thrillho: I cannot fathom carrying around 40+kg of stinky clothes

        • +1

          That makes no sense whatsoever.

But you do you I guess.

        • Take a ship

      • +3

Length of flight tends to correlate with how long people will seek to make the trip to make the flight time worthwhile. But that said, I can't fathom going on a holiday with more than 23kg of luggage. Are you taking your pet anvil or something?

        • +2

You have clearly never flown with someone who brings their whole wardrobe with them.

          • +4

@xoom: Yes that would be an unenjoyable companion, so I wouldn't do that

            • @park: Never said they would be. Just saying they exist.

          • @xoom: I can only imagine the amount of malakies that never left the suitcases

        • +1

That's cause you can't fathom the horror of posting on IG with the same outfit in multiple tourist spots. You haven't really travelled unless you have the Likes to show for it.

          • @star-ggg: Ah yes the multiple outfit changes per scene. Oh yeah. Eerily familiar one trip i took with a few friends. One did just that.

  • Dam I already booked with Emirates for April thinking there wouldn't be any better deals…

Don't worry Cathay service and food is shit in now so you're not missing out

      • +2

Flew with them a few months ago and they were great.

        • -2

great because nothing went wrong or great because you weren't expecting much from them at the start?

          • @Poor Ass: Great because they met expectations. People like to bash entire airlines from their one negative experience when really it comes down to who is working the flight. Flight food is flight food. They served us whenever requested and had decent wine. The layover in HK was efficient.

Do people expect massages or something 😂

            • @Cohey:

Do people expect massages or something

Negative review if no happy ending.

              /s

            • @Cohey: my experience is from 33 years flying with them every 2 years minus pandemic

              just my personal experience

  • +2

The Barcelona flights are cheap for peak season. Hot city.

    • +5

      Wonderful place

      • +2

I flew there last year with Qatar Airways - terrific airline - seems a lot more direct than going via Honkers (haven't checked flight durations), but I did pay a fair bit more than $1500s for the privilege!

      • +3

Zany to get downvoted for declaring that Barcelona is a great place to visit. Beach, architecture, culture, food, great connectivity to other cities. An unusual crew on ozbargain.

        • I cancelled it out. Might have been a Madrid fan!

    • Loved Barcelona but it is a very muggy hot city in Summer. I would consider Autumn or Spring.

  • +3

Cathay flys over Russia and Singapore flys over Iran, i’m sure they did their risk assessment but interestingly Qantas QF9 weaves through the Persian gulf

    • +6

Chinese airlines are allowed to use Russian airspace, Singaporean and Australian airlines are not.

There is also no reason for QF9 to use Russian airspace - that would be quite the detour.

    • +3

Plenty of airlines fly over Iran, though plenty also avoid it and fly over Iraq. Not sure the latter is much better. Singapore has pretty good relations with Iran so it's probably better to fly over Iran than Iraq on the case of Singapore Airlines.

    • Cathay does not fly into Russia airspace. It will fly via China, Central Asia, Georgia, Bulgaria and Italy.

      • Who told you that? Search for example CX321

        • CX321 does not exist at the moment, it will begin operation in July!
You can check the flight path of CX315 HKG -> MAD on Flightradar24.
All CX flights do not use Russia airspace.

Is it possible to stay over night a few nights in Hong Kong?

    • Yep you're allowed to stay for 3 months with no extra paperwork just rock up fill out single immigration form

  • Perfect timing - my parents are currently looking for a 3-4 week trip from late may to June thanks OP! Does Cathay allow a overnight stop over at all, they are wanting to fly to the stop over location stay a night and then continue into Europe (London).

    • Is that you Adrian? But wait, Adrian is only 2!!

  • Which one is cheaper in everyone's experiance? Melbourne to Londaon and return from Milan to Melbourne or the other way round? Mel-Rome/Lon-Mel?

    • +3

Leave from Italy, UK has Air Passenger Duty on departures that scales with distance so you'd be paying $180 for the privilege of leaving from the UK vs less in Italy

  • Does cathay also have a seat points upgrade as well? buy a econ, use points to get business kinda deal? and if anyone has experience is it worth it? or better off just redeeming a flight solely on points?

    • Cathay pacific business usually full so your chance of upgrade from economy is like, none unless you are a diamond status member.

  • I need Adelaide to Europe Start of July to End of July. Any chance of some magic happening there?

  • Looking to get something that flies out of Berlin July 15 (this return is not flexible), with a flexible departure to any city in Europe (including Berlin) around May 31 -Jun 3 depending on what's the cheapest. These would be from/to Melb. Can't find anything much cheaper than 2500 (unless I take 40+ hour flights to save ~300 which I wouldn't; ideally ~29hrs max), is there much likelihood for there to be a drop or am I better off just booking it soon?

    • +2

Its not getting any cheaper IMO, demand is really high as this summer has both the Olympics and Euro tournament while supply is constrained as full capacity hasnt returned to Europe yet post covid and there is a big engine recall currently which will keep planes out of the skies. Also, summer flight schedules for a lot of European carriers have been finalised in recent weeks or are still being finalised right now, so its probably getting more expensive from here on now that the schedules are sorted.

  • Can you do multi stay in Hong Kong?

  • The Barcelona to Sydney flight has a short lay over time of 1 hour 40 minutes in Hong Kong. Is this enough time? Will the airline put me on the next flight to Sydney if the Barcelona leg is delayed?

    • Usually enough te. If not there are multiple departures to Sydney per day and Cathay will rebook you.

  • +1

Do they give you carpet on the flight? ^^

  • Does anyone know why the price after clicking through the posted link and the listed price in the OPs description is different? Mine is showing approx $100 more on the IWTF site. Thanks!!
