      They're on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Lmfao a 737 Boeing Max 9 on 9 and 14 hour sectors. I've heard it all

The 737 MAX 9s mostly operate in the United States. Alaska Airlines and United mostly operate the majority of them.
Im flying a MAX 9 in 2 weeks (hopefully) from Honolulu to Anchorage - a 6 hour flight all over the Ocean, then again from ANC to SEA 5 days later. I have full confidence in the 737 MAX 9 - the incident wasnt 100% Boeings fault.

The airframe that had the accident had pressurization issues (warning lights on the overhead panel) on 3 different instances - AS mechanics should have grounded the aircraft until rectification. Instead they limited it to US mainland ops. But sure 90% of this incident is Boeings poor QC and decline in quality of product, we said in the industry that Boeing lost itself during the MD takeover in the 90s. A company which was headed of engineers, became your typical US corporation.

WTF - on one hand you say it wasn't 100% Boeing's fault (which it quite clearly is), then in the next sentence you're saying it is Boeing's fault. I'm not sure who else's fault it is?

        • -1

If you look in the tech logs of that AS B39M - there was 3 different instances regarding the cabin pressurization system prior to the event where the door plug blew. Given how new the aircraft is - the correct SOP would have been to AOG the aircraft for a full inspection. Instead of MEL'ing the incidents and working a cheap fix.

@AircraftFreight: And you don't think the underlying issue is Boeing's fault?

    • Are there any flights to Europe via Xinjiang?

    Wow… $450+ for 1-way from Sydney - Guangzhou - Rome
and the same price for the return journey.

That's cheaper than flying to Perth sometimes,
and with more luggage too !

    • Is it possible to buy extra legroom seats on these flights?

      • Do you mean, the ability to choose seats (free or paid?) ?

  • Much cheaper than their direct flights to Guangzhou, they must be getting good incentives to fly on to other destinations.

  • Whats the catch?

    • +1

China gets to harvest your passport data, face photo for their massive facial recognition database and all 10 fingerprints. I’m ok with that though

      Source: I’ve travelled that route

  • One of the flights I'm looking at only has a 1-hour transit time… will that be enough? Rome -> Guangzhou -> Melbourne. Anyone done/achieved this before?

    • +1

If you miss your flight they will just put you on the next one. I think its possible if everything is on time, but if your incoming flight is late it's gonna be tight!

      • I hope so! It will suck if we have to pay for a new flight. Pretty tempted to give it a whirl though!!! :)

        • I booked! :D Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly. I’ve never flown with China Southern before

Thanks very much for this! I booked a two-week trip in late June. I'm glad this deal came up as the recent Air China deal didn't seem to have dates later in June.

It looks like booking direct with the airline was about $90 more per person versus booking through an online travel agency. However, if you log in as a Sky Pearl member, you get access to the early bird pricing, which takes about $50 off per person, bringing the difference between directly with the airline and the OTA to about $40 per person. I felt this was worth it to not have to deal with the travel agent if anything went wrong.

    • Thats great info! Thanks :)

    • Great info! I'm trying to look at booking directly through airline but struggling to find anything close to this price- could you please let me know how you did??
      Thank you in advance 🙏

      • Hey! This is the search page for the early bird promo (more details here). I found the cheap ~$970 flights on Google Flights, then plugged those dates into the promo search page. Note you need to be logged in as a Sky Pearl member for it to work.

  • Shortest i can find is 6 hours?

    Anyone found shorter than that?

    • From Sydney or Melbourne? If you click the link for the Sydney price, outbound stop is 6 hours, inbound is 1 hour 15 minutes

      • From Sydney

        • I think I just answered your question then?

Use the duration filter in Google Flights to make the flight time shorter and see if any dates show at these prices
