My latest trick is to use my cassette in an ultrasonic cleaner every few weeks. Works a treat so far…. much cleaner.

Any suggestions on new or alternative heads/blades?

Pro tip: after using it, take it out of wash station and put lid/cap back on. No more evaporation of your solution and money. Lasts sooo much longer this way.

  • dishwash liquid is FAR superior in cleaning the whole cassette out but you have to lubricate the cutters afterwards .

  • Do you guys use the cleaning station every single time after shaving? I have Braun 9 Pro but never feel that it's a close shaving.

    • Once a week, I also use ShaverGuard. Closeness of shave is probably more a technique thing potentially? You want to pull your skin tight and shave against the grain.

      • Thanks. I found Panasonic lv65 offers closer shaving. Do you use any pre shave product? Or using on dry skin directly?

        • Just dry skin. I've used a Brain Series 7 for close to 15 years and I've been very happy with it. I buy new blades every year but other than weekly lube + clean it's flawless.

          • @JSONBourne: I found the challenge of shaving is daily shaving since the length is short. Hence it could hurt skin. What are the shavers you are using? I have heard so many good stories about series 7 but I would hope series 9 should be better.

          • @JSONBourne: I've got both the older Series 7 and the newer 9 (which I've bought a 9 Pro cartridge for), and the older 7 is definitely superior. Poor thing is breaking down now due to age and annoyed they don't sell it anymore :(

I also remove cartridge and tap out hair before cleaning station. Also check to ensure your cleaning station is clean every once in a while and that the drains are all clear.

    • I only use it when it needs to be charged (about 1.5-2 weeks). I would also wash the head/cassette with water before putting it into the station. Then as soon as the wash is done, I take the cartridge out and put the lid back on. The cartridge has lasted more than a year.

  • is there a cheap way to make these?

We tried with the cheaper refill stuff into existing cartridges and we had a major fail with the shaver not long after that. Fortunately we were still within the Shaver Shop replacement period. It might’ve been a coincidence but we haven’t risked it since.

Empty and fill with 70% isopropanol. Cheapest option is purchase 100% isopropanol and dilute to anywhere between 70% and 80% as you did for your COVID spray.

Been doing this for 10 years now and still going strong with head/cutter replacements every 3 years.

Furthermore, I find you can get longer intervals between refills if you wash head with water prior to activating cleaning cycle. Hence the reason for the suggested 80% isoproponal solution at refill time.

      • Didn’t dilute mine and it was all good.
