TIL Ted’s Cameras are still operating

    • +3

They very much are, especially in the professional space.

    • Came to say this lol

    • Is it actually amazing , they gotta be bleeding retail wise, there is basically never any customers in the one at my local Westfield, even on Thursday nights and weekends..

  • Code didn't work for me

'The coupon code isn't valid. Verify the code and try again.'

    • I think it only works for new accounts. Have you purchased before using the email address you've supplied?
Also try logging in to apply the code (i.e not shopping as a Guest)

  • Any bargains?

Is actually pretty subjective when it comes to second hand camera gear… can be a little hit and miss

These days id still rather pay for brand new, good deals harder to come by since many don’t post on OCAU photography trading forum anymore

    • Was eyeing the Sony 24-70 2.8 GM2 but someone snatched it already. $2k + TRS refund was pretty enticing.

  • Has anyone had experience buying 2nd hand from Ted’s. Please share experience and what you purchased. TIA

    • Yeah have a bought second hand Canon cameras from Ted’s before and they were as good as brand new. But you mileage may vary.

    • Only back in the days before anything was sold on the internet and you had to go to their stores to buy anything.

      • You had to go to a store to buy something!? What the hell!

    • Bought a Panasonic G9 from them last year second hand and the thing was pretty much brand new with the only difference being that they had it in a plain box with random bags used to keep the charger and cables and no CD included; they also showed me the shutter count and it was really low for the kind of camera the G9 is meant to be used for.

Also managed to haggle them a bit on the price (even on the additional battery I bought) so overall was a good experience.

    • I recently got a Canon 70-200 F2.8L IS from Teds for $999 (Mark I, second hand). Pretty happy with it - sent out same day arrived 3days later, condition is excellent, it included a tripod collar, case & hood which was not in the description so was happy with the bonus.

People were selling this lens privately on FB Mkt for roughly this price, and from TEDS I get 1yr warranty and credit card points.

  • Any idea if the price includes GST, or are second hand sales exempt from GST?

    • +2

Listed price includes GST from what I can tell on my invoice.

Cheers, got a great deal on a 2x Sony teleconverter for $390

  • A7C and A7riii are pretty good value, comparable to eBay prices

thanks, grabbed a canon 6d mk11 for $870.I'm interested to see what condition it's in when I get it (and take some pics of course)

    • +1

6d MkII arrived today - condition is impeccable/as new. Taken about 100 shots to test operation and with my various lenses and super happy with the results (which is why I've wanted this model for a while now)

      • Curious what the shutter count is.

        • me too, but I'd previously read that getting the count for this model was problematic - just tried a couple of utils from google hits and … nada

          • @Dolt2020: *Edit - possible, but could be accurate (and could also be wrong for 5 different reasons) -the photo numbering was set to continuous as I received it and my first shot was 9726

            • @Dolt2020: I normally just take a photo and upload it to a website like https://checkshuttercount.com/ to check shutter count

              • @shalashaska: yeah tried a few of those and no return, I think they rely on the count being in the exif data, and it's just not there for this model

                • +1

@Dolt2020: Oh well. Great to hear the camera is in such good condition and you're happy with the results.

  • Hmmm maybe RX10 IV or P1000 for a travel camera…

  • Found a better bargain in my price range at Ryda.
    https://www.ryda.com.au/digital-cameras

    • Teds have a secondhand Fuji XF 150-600mm for >> $1,919.96 but thought I'd just check prices of a new one before getting that.

Found that CameraPro have brand new ones for >> $2,299,
it's supposed to be a great super-telephoto lens (don't forget Cashrewards at CameraPro).

You can't really see the condition of 2nd hand online. Any idea if you can refund if the condition is unreasonable?

    • Their acceptance standards for traded-in gear is very high and I'd say that it's quite a safe bet. For example, there was a bit of blemish inside one of the lenses and they rejected the trade-in. Also, I have seen how thorough they were in testing all camera/lens functions during the inspection process.

      • Thanks so much!

  • The Nikon Z primes are at pretty decent prices. Around or better than marketplace and ebay.

Ah, that Leica M10-P is discounted from $9,999.95 to $7,999.96. That's 2k in savings!

    • Problem is that M10-P can be had for a lot less than $8k

On time for my R6! I just ordered an RF 24-70mm. Thanks!

Picked up a kit 28-70 Sony lens for $149 posted. Good for travel where I don't want to carry too many good lenses. There are a bunch on Marketplace for $200, but $150 with a returns policy is a much better deal.

    • nice deal - sadly no more..

I've had a similar experience. Picked up the 1st gen Sony 16-35 g master for $1,400. Facebook market price is $1,800-$2,000. I even spoke to a few sellers and showed them the Ted's link and they still refused to budge on price. Granted there is one sitting on gumtree for an asking price of $1,400 though not in my area.

I knew Ted - a lovely guy - he used to lead our small discussion workshop group in some human potential type evening classes in Melbourne back around 1984-5 or so - that was before Ted's Camera stores became a big thing like the one I walk past in Sydney Pitt St near the pedestrian mall.

  • Bummer, ordered a lens and it got cancelled.
Annoyingly the lens still shows in stock and allows me to add to cart on the site even now.
Hoping the stock levels aren't too out of whack.

Pretty happy with the Olympus 45mm f/1.2 ,paid $720 , lens is in good condition, glasses have no scratches, only issue is they dont have the origial package.

  • My order showed up today. Sony 16-35mm f2.8 G Master. It looks like a brand new lens. no wear on the body. no scratches on the body or lens. original box, original lens pouch and lens hood. Quite impressed.
