The red one is also on sale:

Nothing to write home about, but gets the job done. Good price. Had one for years, until the cover got warped while moving house.

MG3660 uses 2 inks, PG640(Black) and CL641(Colour).

This is in the latest BigW catalogue. I am assuming the sale expires in a month when the new catalogue comes out.

    Inkjet.

    Never. Ever.

    • What's so bad about inkjet? And what's the alternative?

      • +9

        Massive rort on the ink.
I changed to a laser years ago and beyond amazing. I only have a black and white laser but it's all I need. The toners are cheap and last ages. My Brother printer has been going strong for probably 10 years

I will admit there are rare cases out there where people use inkjets for photos but I would personally use a photo printing service for that.

Thanks. I might just buy a used laser printer then.

@Aleigh123: A new one is more expensive than an inkjet but you will be in front in no time without ink cartridges to buy.

I think this might be the latest version of my Brother

            $138.15 amazing price really.

@bboz: I've got the same Brother. I have replaced the cartridge once in about 10 years. I'm surprised every time I print something that it's still going.

@Aleigh123: The inkjets with refillable tanks like the Epson Ecotank is another option. If you print quite a bit these are easily the cheapest to run. But, you do need to print regularly, or schedule a task to print a sheet which has all the colours (I have a weekly print set up). This is to make sure that you don't get any clogs/ dried ink.

@Elmsy: yeah I had one of these, our usage was too low and kept getting clogged, wouldn't recommend them unless you're doing a high volume and really need ink - otherwise may as well get a laser…. which is what I did…

    • Your local landfill will thank you.

  • I use inkjet for colour printing.

  • For mono printing, this seems like a good deal at the moment (it has wireless printing, but no scanning):
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-laserje…?

I have an older version of this and it is going strong after more than fifteen years.

    • Does this one need an account?

Last two HPs I've installed needed you to sign up for an account before they would print so I stopped recommending them.

      • My HP printer does not have Wi-Fi. I print via USB connection to the PC.

HP Smart app is probably the easiest and the recommended way to set up this printer. But it is not required according to the HP website.

This video shows two other ways (for another HP printer):

        • OK, the connection method does not matter, the last two HPs I set up for customers (they bought them not through us) required me to set up an account for them before it would scan. I wasn't impressed with that is all. It installed all the drivers and I could print, the minute I wanted to set up scanning I had to create an account there was no way out :(

          Thanks.

  • Is it a good scanner? I don’t need printing.

    • +1

Yes. I used it quite a bit.
And if you do decide to print it's easy to drill the cartridge and top them off.

    • +2

Depends on the quality you need and volume of scanning you want to do.

These do the job but are fairly slow at ~14 seconds per scan, and the maximum optical resolution is only 1200x2400 DPI.

Fine for scanning a few documents every now and again, especially when you consider the price. Even better if you pick one up for free off the side of the road.

    • Thanks guys, just bought it

Almost lost my mind with its WIFI setup (and i work in IT). After 2 hours i just put it in the bin.

    • I got it free from a girl about to dump it.

I couldn't get the wifi set up by following the instruction. Turned out the instruction of pressing/holding the wifi button won't work. The wifi does work after setting up using the usb cable connection.

  • A better deal for mono printing:
