nbn HFC Router

Was looking for a router to replace my TPG Archer VR1600v and I had some good guys credit to use. I was looking at this TP-LINK AX3000 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router DECO-X50.

Is this a suitable replacement for my old Archer. I’m currently on coaxial nbn 50 HFC. Only the kids use PS5 for online gaming, the rest is light internet use but a lot of smart devices.

Has anyone had any experience with these?

Yeah, should be fine with HFC.

    • @ihfree Thank you for your reply and the info. I’m vision impaired so it’s hard for me to research all the different routers.

I had one more question to ask ya is the NBN supplied black box that connects to the coaxial outlet at the wall, is that the modem? Am I just using my own router to send the wifi signal around the house?

Basically, yes. Has one Ethernet port, which most people use to connect to a router and distribute throughout the house

    Would recommend google router!

I second this, I use the google nest system and it's been great - I have 3 set up in the house and 1 in the garage at the back of the block and have strong wifi everywhere.

I'm using an Eero 6+ and have been impressed so far. But any of the mesh systems seem to be the way to go. Buy one, if you find some parts of the house have poor wireless reception, buy another. 3 seems overkill to me unless you like in a big ass 2 story house but you can sometimes find good deals on 3 packs of mesh systems.

    • Yeah I was thinking I’d start with one I’m only in a 3 bedroom house. So am I right in saying you start off with a mesh router and then if you need an extender you buy the compatible mesh add on devices?

Yes, correct. Just be wary of the speeds between the router and the extender. Often times an extender won't have the same wireless speeds and/or coverage than a full router. I'd fork out a bit more and have 2 router mesh over 1 router 1 extender (assuming other brands work the same as Eero).

That said, probably overkill anyway for a 50 speed connection anyways. This would only be a concern on like 250 and above.

        • Thanks heaps for that info much appreciated
