The EHS (Electronic Hook Switch) cable allows you to answer your Cisco telephone when you are away from your desk. Simply press the control button on your headset when you hear the incoming call tone and the EHS connection will answer the call like magic. Press the same call control button to end the call.

The EHS cable is suitable for Cisco 79xx telephones when using the following Plantronics Headsets:

    Wish you could get these cables for NEC phones rather than having to use an auto-lifter :(

      Hi ruddj. As they say, it takes 2 to tango. i.e. Developing an EHS cable requires work from both the headset manufacturer and the telephone manufacturer. Unfortunately it looks like NEC has not made much of an effort to support EHS cables. I understand your frustration - we had a caller today complaining about a handset not sitting properly on the lifter and falling off the telephone when it went off hook because of the telephone angle! Sorry we can't help you with this.

        Not blaming you at all, I know it's down to NEC.
        I even opened up the phone to investigate installing a relay, but the hook it directly soldered onto the control board making this near impossible.
        I've used pickups in the past and have had problems with power supplies failing, it falling off, not lifting properly, etc. The EHS cable seems like a much more elegant solution.
