    You need to transfer your domain for them to 'manage' it.

      That's right. Why is that a bad thing? If it's a .au domain the transfer is free. If it's a .com/.net etc then there is a charge but it adds an extra year to your domain renewal. This shouldn't be a concern, as you are buying a lifetime hosting account for the life of the domain, so the longer the domain is registered for, the longer the hosting account will remain active for! :)
