    Holy moly that's expensive

    • +2

Was going to bite, but then realised it costs 10 times what I thought it was.

    • Depends how accurate you need your measurement

  • +1

Is this price worth it? Can anyone recommend a good budget/value torque wrench?

    • +1

Depends what you are doing with it. It's definitely a quality tool.

    • +1

For torque wrench there is no such thing as good and budget.

Other brands I have used in the past that I'd recommend:

      Stahlwille

      Warren and Brown

      • what do you use yours for?

        • +2
          • Automotive
          • Machinery
          • Bikes
          • Small engines
          • @t25: I had a cheap SCA type torque wrench back in the 90's. It was so out that I broke 2 cylinder head bolts!!

I'm still on the fence about this one (have been for months). I pretty much only want it for bike stuff. The ones I have work, but I would dread to find how inaccurate they are

    • A lot of recommended torque settings are ballpark. More to give a value so it doesn't come loose, but more importantly, you don't go ballistic tightening it.

As said by Wildesy depends on the use

    • +1

Unless your assembling engines and need high precision the Toolpro ones from SCA are actually quite good, just make sure to back the tension off to 0 after each use.

  • Will this measure 15 inch lbs?

  • +3

    Absolutely ridiculous pricing.

It's like Festool equipment. Really nice to use, but pricing only people with more dollars than sense purchase for "look at moi" status.

(cue tradies offended by this :))

    • +2

I don't think tradies would be offended. They make nice tools ( and I have a heap of them) but are more for enthusiasts who love nice looking tools. They're also marketed for these people…..

it isn't look at moi thing tho, just an expensive fetish

  • There is Project Farm on youtube to see real life tests

  • +2

It's been around this price for a while now. I keep thinking of buying it, mostly for bike maintenance. However, it's overkill as $70 will get one that is near enough for bike work. A lot of recommended torque settings are just ballpark readings, even when it comes to carbon frames

Just for those interested, make sure you get the right one.

    Click-Torque A: 2.5-25 NM

    Click-Torque B: 10-50 Nm

For those interested, also available is the Wera Torque Wrench A5 (without the bits) for $179.83.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Wera-Torque-Adjustable-Wrench-0507…

    • This A5 looks alot more usable with the 1/4" drive

      • I agree

  • +1

For less than the price of that Wera 1/4 25nm torque wrench you could get a Warren & Brown 1-25nm deflecting beam torque wrench.

The difference is that it doesn't use a spring so you don't have to worry about recalibrating it and you can also leave it on a setting without causing harm. They are also made in Australia and are sold at some tool store chains and there are some sellers on ebay as well (search '320510').

p/n 320510 works on normal and reverse thread bolts if you encounter those (so does 320500, 325520 & 325750).
