Kogan 4G Home Broadband (15-20Mbps) for 90 Days + TP-Link Archer MR600 V2 Modem $149.70 ($49.90/Month) @ Kogan

141

A decent deal if you dont mind slightly lower speeds on 4G network (of Vodafone/TPG), and paying upfront for 90days.

Also a great way to make use of any kogan credits you got remaining.

Comes with a decent modem too from Tp Link

Also the deal seems to be limited to once per customer, regardless a cheap way to get decent 4G modem (although you probably might want a 5G modem instead), with a internet plan on it. prices are comparable to the NBN honestly.

Also might wanna keep in mind that this would likely come with CG-NAT problems, so beware of that.

    20Mbps? Lol

    Like telstra offering 500MB plans

  • +1

Is the modem locked to Kogan/VF/tpg?

    • +3

Sorry I am really unsure on that as it is not mentioned on the website.

  • -7

Not really a deal, https://www.tpg.com.au/5g-home-broadband with 1st month free is $118 or $128 for 3 months, and much higher speed. It feels like they just want to clear out the outdated modems

    • +1

that does not get a free modem until you stay with them for 36months (or pay of the modem rental price).

also keep in mind modem return fees (if they dont have a physical store you can return it to). If you only care about internet you may as well just go with TPG or vodafone or spintel at black friday

      • Well that's true if you're more interested in the 4g modem than your connection.

Re TPG modem return fee: I would have thought that the postage fee is paid by TPG, but I might be wrong

        • I did that about a year ago, they foot the bill and you drop it off at a post office.

  • Premium Archer MR600 V2 Wi-Fi Modem

Prob worth it for the modem?

    • +3

well its not that premium, its not like a nokia fastmile 5G 3.2 gateway modem,

its only wifi 5, and speeds of upto 300 Mbps with 4G LTE Cat6

nevertheless this is for 100% better than some of the sh!tt!er modems like Belong generic one, etc. My guess is around $40-$70 ish at least is modem alone new

      • +2

Yeah would have been better if it was 5G, then I could throw a Boost 5G sim in it.
Modem is probably around $100 I think?

        • +1

sorry just looked at last tags of modem itself

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/tp-link-archer-mr600

and Googled it too I think the modem might be worth more than initial assumption of $40-$70 (they seem to be all $120+) but still I think I probably wont pay more than $70 for such technology say from marketplace etc.

also may be you could be able to use this as a NBN modem too, given the WAN port on it (although i could be wrong due to some VDSL missing ?? may be)

And honestly if you got any kogan credits, this is perhaphs one of the best ways to reedem it IMO

  • Vodafone 4G home internet is not available in my area. How bad is reception/speed if i purchase this?

    • +1

get a kogan esim to trial

    • +1

      Kogan uses Vodafone network

  • -3

15-20mbps? Typical speed would be 10ish? No thanks, Can't even load a decent quality AV

    Who wants 4G modem nowadays?

    • Ive been kicking a felix sim for internet for over 4 years now.

Never had an issue with internet speed with 4 devices connected at a time. I get a solid 20Mbps majority of the time. I use between 500GB to 1TB every month on the felix sim

If you dont need the modem, sell it. its selling $250+ everywhere else.

    Use Starlink

    • +3

Starlink is rubbish if you have access to NBN fibre, there is no comparison performance-wise and it is more expensive.
Starlink is, however, great for those in more remote areas without access to a fixed-line NBN service.

      • this ^

      • +2

The bargain posted is for 4G Home Broadband. I don't think this is for people that have NBN fibre.

  • Decent deal. Ive been kicking a felix sim for internet for over 4 years now.

Never had an issue with internet speed with 4 devices connected at a time. I get a solid 20Mbps majority of the time, kogan should be the same. Modem is a bonus as its selling $250+ everywhere else.

I use between 500GB to 1TB every month on the felix sim

Hi OP, is this modem locked to Kogan or Vodafone/TPG? Thanks.

    • Hi OP, is this modem locked to Kogan or Vodafone/TPG? Thanks.

I am really unsure on that sorry, because website does not say anything about it.

I am currently on 5G home internet from Vodafone (been on this same providers since 2021 as price and speeds are both decent to me, been slight issues say 20days ish worth in 2+ years of ownership.). My plan expires near end of this year, that time onwards I would probably be sim slutting on boost sims, or this kinda cheap 4G plan. Or if my plan to stay at same place continues then I might re sign another 5G home contact with them around Black friday or after a few months of sim slutting and this kinda cheap 4G unlimited plans.

  • +1

Felix is a better option, even with their current promo.

  • +1

    Excellent post and description OP.

I am on 25mbps wireless and similar to your description unable to stream 1080p60 and above however for everything else including 1080 it is fine and this should not be too far off.

The free modem is a big bonus.

Recommend checking with Vodafone coverage in your area - have a work colleague who is in suburbia and signal strength is an issue.

  • Once the 3 month data plan has been used up, can you use a standard Kogan Mobile sim instead?

  • Is this 20mbit upstream?
