Yep. Cheap crap doesn't mean bargain.

      • +3

Not all things at Kmart are crap, but most things there are CHEAP, so some do constitute a bargain, especially if someone has a positive experience using what they have posted.

      • Yep, that what anko is, look at their rice cooker, it cooks the inner parts too and smokes up. Most of anko items I have bought didn’t last a week, most recent ones are their dish-drainer, their pedal bins, even in the shop, the bins were already broken. I will keep away from that brand, no matter how cheap it is. Funny, if you look on Kmart site, all their items have 5 stars with minimum words as comment, those broken bins have 5 stars too. Go figure.

      Far out!
So many upvotes for a cheap rubbish at regular RRP lol
I’m tempted to downvote for balancing purposes

    • -3

RIP OzB if full retail kmart crap is accepted as a 'deal'

    • +5

Its oz-awareness as much as it is bargain, some people might not even know this exists and appreciate it being brought to their attention.

      • +3

Ahh I see the problem, they should've posted it on OzAwareness then

        • -2

A bargain denotes good value for the money
          Rrp is not really relevant

      • -3

        Oz awareness lol
Shouldn’t this be promoted under China awareness?

Also I don’t think the purpose of the site is to bring standard RRP to everyone’s attention.

        • The purpose of public bbq's are not to be pissed on but that doesnt stop people from doing it anyway. Ozbargain Ozawareness, you cant stop the people!

          • @DiscoJango: The purpose of food inspectors is to ensure I don’t piss in your food but that’s hasn’t stopped me yet. What is your point?

        • Basically every ALDI post is RRP. They never get downvoted.

          • @Clear: Disagree. Aldi’s crappy stuff is limited edition which also causes many other retailers to drop the prices on their competing goods like Bunnings, etc

This post doesn’t have this dual function

            • -1

@foreverphoenix: There's the classic argument that it's different when Kmart products are no different by getting sold out and discontinued. Aldi products regardless of their availability is RRP and the whole OzRRP argument falls apart when you allow that.

      • That's what the forums are for.

According to the manual the screen doesn't seem to have any dimming, just fyi

    • +1

Just chuck a bit of opaque tape over it 👍🏼

    • +12

Yep, I've got the predecessor to this one and to say it's bright is like saying Australia Post is a bit slow.
Waiting for my neighbours to come over and ask me to turn the light down so they can sleep.

    • It's insanely bright at night, appears to be high intensity blue LEDs. I put a piece of kapton tape over to change the colour and white electrical tape to diffuse. So much better.

A horizontal wireless charger is a bad idea; if you accidentally move a little bit, your phone may not charge.

    • +2

How is that different to any other wireless charger? Almost all of them use roughly the same size induction coil (with the exception being some much more expensive options that have multiple)

      • -3

I don't know, I have no idea how this is better or worse than any other wireless charger. A flat/horizontal wireless charger has no convenience over a wired charger as you need to make an effort to see if you have aligned the charging coil

      • I would assume they meant a cradle would guide and hold the phone in place.

      • +1

neolivz is right, I know this because I and a friend regularly have a few tries just trying to align an iPhone to one like this so that it actually charges, its like trying to fumble a worn usb cable to make it charge. The stand up ones are better because its seated and align straight away, now I just use these, never have a problem.

    • +6

As opposed to a vertical one; where if the coil is in the wrong height, your phone won't charge at all?

      • Most if not almost all the phones have the wireless charger at the same area, some of the wireless chargers has multiple coils, I had originally purchased flat one, I soon realised you misalign very often, you will need to carefully place it in charger to charge it.

        • +1

Magsafe solves this - so probably better to buy Magsafe (or an Android Magsafe case). Although charging coils are usually in the middle of the phone, smaller phones like the iPhone mini may not be compatible with all chargers.

    • You want a vertical one?

      • I already have, I am just stating this is not a convenience over a wired charger apart from may be you can do it with one hand.

    • A vertical wireless charger can slide right off…

      • As a person who used both and now only uses the vertical one, it's a very unlikely scenario. Around 99% of the time my mobile has successfully stayed in the charger and charged in a vertical one. I have one on my work desk and one on the nightstand. I just place it there without really paying attention, it generally would be charging. If I move stand a little it will still remain there. When I had the horizontal one, I had to carefully place it on it and slide it around to find where the coil is, and once you find it if you move a little it could move out of place and stop charging.

        • I find the horizontal much better for dunning your phone on after using it in bed at night. The vertical one i used to use required a bit more effort to place it aligned, where the horizontal one i just smack around blindly until my phone makes its charging tone.

Non MagSafe chargers are a bad idea in general.

      • That's kind of true but it's way easier to pick up from non Magsafe wireless charger. I don't have a MagSafe charging stand but the cable, unless I want to break the cable you ideally need both hands to remove it. It's not as easy as put it on the desk and pick it up when you go. So if you want 1 hand use I guess their charging stand should have a good weight, which means it is going to be expensive.

    • I have a qi charger embedded to my mouse pad and it’s alright, I only find it doesn’t charge when i accidentally bash the mouse into my AirPods and pushes out the coil, kinda like curling in Winter Olympics. But then i again I don’t need to display my phone to keep looking at the pushes, its solely used for charging.

      • I never tried those, but that said mousepad has anti-slip pads underneath so a slight bump on the pad would not move it.

    Ozrrp. Cheap crap

  • Or your could get a vertical charger and be able to see your phones screen, which will also include the time

  • +4

Rock out with your clock out

  • -1

    not a deal

    • -6

That's why more than two years later you still can't find a deal.

  • +1

Not everything in Kmart is cheap crap but this certainly is.

  • +3

downvoters! any alternative you've known of? I was looking for something like this

  • +1

Had the previous version, didn't keep time well at all. Had to adjust every 2-3 weeks. And yes the digits were extremely bright. Don't know if this is the same but just putting it out there.

  • I don't get why they don't make these things with red LEDs. Every bedside clock should be red.

  • -1

Reported as not a bargain as appears to be normal price? (the swarm of -ve comments did not help its cause)

  • +2

I hope all these neggers will downvote Aldi deals from now on. They're "OzRRP" or do we only cherry pick and follow the sheep?

    • Ozbaaagain

  • So I bought one as I wanted just a clock for my bedroom and the charger helps as well. As mentioned above it's VERY bright. Attempting to come up with something to dim it a bit but otherwise I'm returning it.

    • Cheap polarised film?
