Top 3 ingredients: Sugar, Maize Flour, Salt :/

    • Would you prefer the top 3 ingredients are food colouring, preservatives and arteficial stuff like sweeteners?

      • +1

Maybe (because I'm not interested in setting up a false binary to win pretend internet points) they're pointing out that it's just ultra-processed ingredients, which more and more people are finally working out is terrible for your health?

    • It's seasoning??

    • +5

Not sure why the downvotes. When I make taco seasoning from scratch the top three ingredients would not include sugar or maize flour. Cumin, chili, salt, etc but sugar is odd here and maize flour sounds like a filler.

      • is odd here and maize flour sounds like a filler.

        Sounds corny. Doesn't it?

    • For anyone in WA, if you go to SpudShed they have "Tom Munchener Taco Seasoning" in 65g small jars.
Ingredients are Chilli, Onion, Paprika, Coriander, Cumin, Oregano, Garlic, Salt, Sugar.
A little goes a long way depending on how you like it, and it's cheaper than a single-serve sachet.

(Not sure it's cheaper than this deal, but as I say, this mix is full of sugar, flour and salt.)

Why buy 2 for twice the price when you can just buy 1 from amazon for $19.88?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Taco-Seasoning-730g-McCormicks-Pac…

    • Why don't we have both!

  • Also sold at Costco, lasts ages.

    • +4

Yeah they're like under $10 at costco

    • Is it the same brand? Just wondering if it's spicy at all (for the kids)

      • +2

        Not spicy at all.

    • Especially if you buy it and never open it. I'm not sure how long we've kept it in the pantry but it's already past BB.

Old El Paso Taco Spice Mix Taco Spice Mix 30g = $10.00 / 100G
    Woolworths Taco Seasoning Mix 35g = $4.14 / 100G
    McCormick Original Taco Seasoning Mix 14.6KG = $2.73/ 100 G

TLDR: Name brand taco season mix for less than the woolies home brand taco mix, not bad!

    • +1

      14.6kg!?

    • +1

14.6kg of seasoning must be delivered in a bucket

    • +1

Note that McCormicks does this Taco mix, and also a "Premium" Taco mix.
So maybe this is their "Home brand"/Budget version ?

  • How does this compare to the Old El Paso taco/burrito packet mixes?

    • They all taste the same to be honest. I go on price these days

    • +12

Those packet mixes I find way too salty. I make my own since I usually have all the ingredients. Paprika, turmeric, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder & salt. Same with the salsa: passata, jalapenos, smoked paprika (very small amount), paprika, onion powder, salt and pepper.

    • +1

Nowhere near as good IMO. This stuff is really tasteless by comparison.

      • +1

I have used them both interchangeably, and find they taste the same, and even look identical. Probably better to get from costco though.

    • I used to like One Night in Mexico, but unfortunately it’s no longer sold.

      • Yeah their kits were really good!

      • Is that like One Night in Paris?

        Asking for a friend.

  • +3

It’s also fairly easy to mix your own, and cheap.
Didn’t price it exactly though this still seems like better value than those single serve packs for sure

  • These are normally about $10 from Costco

    • $20 shipping is almost enough to put me off.

      • If that's what they are selling it for then Costco will be a little cheaper. They just on sell Costco stuff.

      • Buy 3?

  • This goes great on Popcorn 👌

  • +1

I usually buy this from Costco, its much cheaper.

  • +1

I normally get the Masterfoods one..

    • Never took you to be a Taco kinda guy JV?

      • +2

Don't you follow my Tik Taco streams?

        • +1

No - but i'd subscribe to your OnlyTacos page if you had one ;)

          • @bemybubble: I can't post the link, it breaches the OzBargain posting rules.

  • Cheaper to make your own, but guess it’s good if you don’t mind paying more for all the fillers
