Samsung Asurion - Security Charge Refund if Not Trading in?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum

But does anyone who has ever purchased a Galaxy device using the trade in offers from samsung ever got their security charge refunded without returning the device?

so i put up my old fone for trade in (worth about $150), but decided to keep it

They charged me late fee but never refunded the security charge. They dont reply to messages

So just wondering if anyone knows if Ausrion eventually refund it. Or the only way is to send in the phone?

im kinda annoyed that they are holding the funds like this

edit nvm. i forgot they took out the $150 as a discount during the checkout process. so its net break even. so all good

the strategy next time is to claim the device has 1 broken part so they value it at $1, then u only get charged the $60 late fee and they keep the security charge of $1 and u keep the device but still get the bonus $200 trade in bonus. I did it wrong, but still net even since the $150 discount was applied. forgot about that last part

Im kinda annoyed you didnt hold your end of the contract , why should you think that course of action is okay ?
Maybe because of all the other scumbags on this site , you did it , own it !

      "scumbag"?

what are u upset about. i got a $150 off, they keep $150
nobody seems to have come out worse

ur samsung dividends will be ok this quarter

No they won't refund you. Not sure why you're annoyed? Like you didn't send it in and you're annoyed cos they charged you? Just sell your old phone (which most likely will be more than the trade in value anyway) and be done with it.

For the $150, they have already gave you the discount when you purchased your new phone (as Cash Credit). Because you have already got the credit, they won't refund the $150.

ah makes sense. i thought it was a separate thing. there were so many confusing coupons

next time will probably just trade in a $1 value item to get the bonus cash back offer, so they can keep the $1 security deposit + 60$, but still get to use the +200$ trade in bonus

ive misunderstood the strategy people posted. Guess i wasnt supposed to use an actual device worth anything

lol this is a public forum, your downvotes mean nothing. get a life

Also, your traded in device will be no longer be eligible for future trade-in on Asurion system. (as the serial number will be black listed on their system).

i think its the Imei. so a dual sim can work with both twice.

in any case the reason im backing out is to gift the phone to family anyway

You should probably read the terms and conditions of contracts you sign rather than just guessing what will happen…

It's pretty clear and stated upfront if you don't send it in that they will keep the security charge, that's the whole point of creating a security charge hold.

if you actually look at the customer facing information, they specifically state the charge is until they get a chance to inspect the device (i.e. to ensure u didnt send in a cracked s23 but claimed it was excellent). not specifically to send the device in.

but yeah i just realised regardless of this fact, the $150 was offset by the discount. thus zero sum even. Got confused by the bonus discount they stacked on

"you should probably" try to communicate less passive aggresively if your intention is to help people and not come across as a snark

dont act like you actually read the pages and pages of T&Cs. if u do. im sorry for you

they specifically state the charge is until they get a chance to inspect the device […] not specifically to send the device in

And how do you expect them to inspect the device…?

Don't act like you actually read understood the pages and pages of T&Cs. If you did, you wouldn't be posting here.

im simply stating what their emails state. not that im arguing against what dingo billy said

I did read it - I am looking to trade in for a Galaxy Tab S9 and I want to make sure I don't get screwed over! It's over $1000 - I don't read everything in-depth but I'll make sure to look up the main charges as I don't want to lose $250 (education trade in).

If it was a $20 item then sure, who cares. But the more expensive it is the more you should actually try to understand what you're getting into. If you were buying a car would you also say "Hah, you nerd! Who reads the terms and conditions for financing?"

yeah in my case, the trade in value was below market value. i was only after the bonus $200 discount mainly which then put the total discount incl trade in above market value

then suddenly had a relative needing a phone so change of plans

in previous years ausrion app had a third option to trade in earbuds too. so you could send in a $1 pair of earbuds to get the $200 bonus
then sell your phone on ebay for a better price

          they removed that this year

in any case. i posted a thread asking a question, and people helped me realise my mistake. But instead of trying to be helpful, top 3 comments went swinging out the gate with snark. Kinda random and unnecessary but its whatever

didnt realise people were this passionate about trade in discounts

they specifically state the charge is until they get a chance to inspect the device

So by your logic you still owe them $150?

  • Yes, Asurion will refund it once they receive the agreed device, and if it meets the conditions, if not they wont and charge you another $60 admin fee for not returning the device.

  • Just been charged the $60 late fee on the 24th for a device they received on the 19th. Kept all the Auspost tracking. I have lodged the conversations on the Ausrion website but I have also gone through Samsung to escalate it and received a ticket number for my complaint.

And they keep sending emails asking me to return the device.

If the $60 is not returned in a timely fashion I will be doing the rounds of all relevant ombudsman and consumer protection organisations.

This is not a good look for Samsung to use the services of shysters!

    Definitely not happy Jan!!
