Seems decent for the price. Any tradeoffs?

Possibly poor cooling but could be fixed if you have something that can tilt the laptop like a stand or something.

MSI should be offering a fire extinguisher

220W+ of consumption during gaming loads in this Katana chassis being "powered" by an undersized 200W AC adapter and "cooled" by an under-spec heat pipe shared between the CPU and GPU

    Another MSI budget special

    • Guess you could call this fire as the kids say

    • ;) you know me well

  • I'm looking for a work laptop (word docs, viewing pdfs) that I can do some gaming with, plugged into a monitor and standalone. Would this be suitable or something else?

    • +2

This would be way overkill just do 'do some gaming with'

    • For 'some' gaming, just grab this. Its a work focused laptop, but the 780m is sufficient to play games at medium spec.

  • "MSI's about to make you its b**ch."

  • OP must be a MSI fan here, keep posting all these MSI laptops from Centrecom

    • I guess it's one of the few budget options as far as laptops go and have had promos and sales recently? Only owned one MSI product and it was a monitor and was fairly average but no complaints other than where the ports were. Haven't purchased from Centrecom personally because shipping is always expensive and would be cheaper elsewhere for me which is unfortunate because most of the recent GPU deals posted here have come from Centrecom
