    Depends. Probably not.

    Depends. Probably yes.

Is your old TV an OLED? The downgrade would bother me if I were used to an OLED.

    • +3

Agreed, now I have one I would rather go smaller and have OLED than big backlit

  • +5

Not really sure what you mean here.

OLED produces deeper blacks. Streaming content and torrented content contains black in it.

    Nice to have

  • streaming some real debrid bluray remuxes with an oled would be pretty sweet.

If you were with a decent Plasma for the past decade+, and it finally pops with a cloud of white smoke - trust me there is no alternative you'd be satisfied with.

      Plasma ???????

Still rockin the panny here baby.

        • I retired our 42" G10 in favour of a crappy soniq as it was being left on for hours per day. maybe hang it in the bedroom when the rubbish samsung LCD we've been using gives up
          .

        • Lucky b**tard 🙂
My Panasonic P55VT30A literally went up in a puff of smoke, replaced after a lot of deliberating between the LG G3 and Samsung S95C, went for the latter.

Although, in hindsight should have gone for the former 😑

          • @88mph: How come? Problems with the Samsung?

            • +1

@EightImmortals: Took a lot of fiddling to get a picture setting I was comfy with.

Intelligent setting is a bummer during the day but awesome at night.

              OS is clunkier than LG.

I have an older LG B Series in another room, and have come to accept my eyes are probably used to the LG colour gamete than Samsung's.

still using my panasonic plasma, hard to beat without selling my left testicle to have the funds for something that is better.

If you watch high quality content then you’ll appreciate an OLED, if you don’t then don’t bother.

    • A 2 GB 4k torrented film mkv will look terrible no matter how good your television is. You need a high bitrate to get good visual quality. At least 4GB for a HD H265 encode and 16 GB for a 4k H265, Double that figure for H264.

If you use 85" then anything smaller is a downgrade. Not worth paying $5k+ for 77"+ OLED.

Buy the biggest for your budget.

Current is a 2021 Sony 4k. But i have to replace it.

Just seen something recently where someone suggested that a good mini led is not far off an oled and nearly 1/2 the price.

Go to JB and check out the TCL C845 in person and see if you can tell the difference.

      https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/tcl-85-inch-c845…

      • I can tell the difference, (comparing LG G3 and C845), but you do have to look for it. OLED still reigns supreme, but I would be OK with a mini led Sony or C845 if I had a smaller budget. This is coming from someone with a 2016 LG B6.

        • I have an LG CX and a C845. Both are excellent, the OLED is better but the Mini LED is pretty close and half the price, so that would be my recommendation

      • Better off buying a 2nd hand 65” C1 for around 1k (still has ACL warranty)

You don't need OLED, you don't need a TV at all, but why are you replacing a 2 year old TV? The reasons you don't like it and have decided to replace it should help guide your choice of replacement.

      • Lots of private reasons not associated with if he should purchase an OLED as a replacement.

        Such as…..

        1. Giving to a friend who just moved out of home
        2. His partner is taking it with him/her
        3. Parents want it back
        4. Best friend has asked for it back
  • I would say no unless you really need it. I went from a Sony Bravia 95K to a Samsung S95C and yes the image is great and I enjoy watching movies on it, was it worth the extra $2000 to upgrade from mini LED to OLED, probably not!

    Sure why not

  • +2

i only buy OLED phones. i cant afford OLED tvd

  • +3

Do I Even Need an OLED

    Nope…

  • Love my Mini-LED.

  • Go have a look. If you like the picture and the price is right - buy it.

Darker room: oled, Brighter room: led. I chose led coz my living room is bright but if I have dedicated theatre room I will choose oled or short throw projector.

  • I think I'll pick up a TCL c845 tomorrow.

      Lol

    • Shame

  • Short answer - Yes
Long answer - Yes, why not?

OLED is king, everything is looks washed out

When I was younger, I wanted to buy the best of the best TV, but now being older and wiser(jaded?) they all do the same thing, OLED is better and I'm to busy to watch more than 6 hours a week. If that sounds like you, save the money buy a 2nd tier brand TV and put that money towards something else, maybe streaming service? or VPN for your online activities.

    • You’re not busy, you’re just inefficient at managing your time

      • I think you might be onto something.

    For streaming yes
    For torrented stuff no

    • ??? Better quality OLED tv for low quality streamed content ???

  • +1

Yes. I have regrets that I didnt spend more and go all out for a 77" or 83" OLED. One day I will upgrade the 55 and 65 OLEDs.

  • No

  • Size is more important if you are choosing between size and OLED.

    • I tend to agree, my 85” LED beats the shit out of my parents’ 65” OLED

  • No

  • are you replacing one of these ? what is the screen size ?

    https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/televisions/x85k-x89k-se…

  • I won't buy a non-OLED screen ever again. If it costs more than a grey ugly LCD then so be it.

  • Ended up getting a 75" c845 TCL.

$2100 less 5% cashback and $150 gift card.

  • +1

Once you go OLED you can never go back

  • I am firmly in the OLED camp, the visual improvement is incredible for 4k HDR/DV content
