iPhone to Samsung - Any Option to Try?

Have been using iPhone since 10+ years, but keen to see the android side and if it would fit my lifestyle. Is there any option to try out Samsung phone - probably the fold one? I found in Samsung site for a 30 day trial, but I guess we need to pay upfront for that and people have bad stories around refund. Any other option or anyone tried and then returned the Samsung device successfully?

Apple also have you pay upfront for their two week no questions asked refund policy. Though Samsung aren't known for their customer service, you wouldn't want to be stuck with a Fold you didn't want to keep.

I'm not sure such a policy exists in Australia.

There's a change of mind policy but includes this -

ensure that the Mobile Product for which they are seeking an exchange or refund is unused and in a re-sellable condition in Samsung’s reasonable opinion (including the packaging being un-opened, the seal intact and all in-box items, including warranty cards and user manuals, being in the box).

Even if it did, I'd be weary of dealing with Samsung directly.
"Samsung Electronics has been ranked the number one most complained about business in the State so far in 2023, according to NSW Fair Trading’s complaints register."

OOI, are there any specific uses/reasons where you think Android/OneUI would fit better?

  • Could you visit a kiosk or do you need to do in-depth test? I’ve been away from Samsung since note 4. I played with a z fold when I was deciding to upgrade to iPhone 14 Pro or not from the 12 pro. 15 min at the kiosk was enough to determine it just wasn’t for me.

What made you stay with Apple? Might help OP decide.

The only thing Samsung has going for me was the tech (folding screen). I spend the time mainly checking out the ergonomics and the actual screen tech between swapping between fold and open, and how robust the fold mechanism was. Android is Android more or less. I have an Android work phone so it’s not like I’ve been totally out of the loop. But just prefer iPhone. I also have iPad Apple Watch and AirPods and Apple one sub so bit hard to swap now

Samsung is actually a terrible "representative" of Android. It's more it's own thing due to the iOS influence and huge amounts of custom/bloat functions. People quoting their Android experience often talk from the perspective of Samsung and that impression couldn't be more irreverent to Android itself.

Even with my 13 year use of Android I find the experience on my Samsung S8 Tablet non-sensical sometimes. For instance Android never has any nagging but Samsung makes it their mission to nag you on everything everytime just like iOS.

The only Android worth using today is Xperia and Google Pixel. With Xperia not being accessible/available to Australia, the Pixel is the only one I'd recommend.

I also thought it was a bit strange OP wants to buy a Samsung phone when they're after an Android experience… seems to me like the Pixel would be a good choice for them. Xperia seems like a good phone as well, I miss the days of Sony Ericsson, they came out with some nice phones back in the day.

100% agree; Samsung is far from the perfect representation of Android but we know how it is; it's iPhone vs Samsung to a large majority of the population imo. Samsung = Android to some people.

Samsung = Android to some people.

Yep that's true, maybe that's why OP seemed to default to Samsung.

    • Just here to agree with you.

Long time iOS user, the only phone that’s ever tempted me is the pixel. It’s “simple”, not unlike an iPhone.

Samsung is just so full of bloat, their after sales is crap (if they ever deliver the device to begin with), the list goes on.

Get a mid range Android device to try. Only going to cost you a few hundred dollars.
