Price is a bit meh, if you're willing to wait then wait till it hits the lower $400s again like it has in the past

  • Still to high. Meanwhile those Sennheiser custom for Amazon prices are jumping all over the place. I got mine for $410, but the dropped into the mid $300s for a while, sitting at $395 - these are some custom units not just the regular ones that Amazon got and left the price well over $600 for ages. My feeling is they weren’t selling and have been messing with the price up and down like a Yoyo if look at camelxsnelcanel. I still think these Sony XM5 are the better of the two, but the battery life on the Sennheiser Momentum 4 is 3 times longer than the XM5 - and the sound quality look, some ppl prefer the Sony, which can be a bit bass heavy.

As ANC BT headphones go, both are in the top three. I’m Surprised Sony doesn’t have an XM6 by now with a longer battery life.

Both are excellent headphones, my XM5 are great just need to charge more often. I bought the Momentum 4 in December when Amazon finally dropped the price. I was looking for a set with longer. Battery life for someone and I ended up keeping them as the person because bought them for wanted to stick with their mid range Sony ANC , lower than the XM5 in quality, by half not sure of the model.

It’s always good to have a couple of different sets for different listening. There’s some Sennheiser corded closed back I want to get as well but they aren’t going anywhere. They are just bog standard corded headphones the X599 I think or something like that.

A portable USB DAC might be good but I’m more likely to take the BT on the move so looking for tte SMSL DACs to drop a bit in price. There’s some mid range SMSL streaming units with DAC but can be used to put analogue music through. Was thinking maybe use my DP820 spare HDMI audio output as some have HDMI in, but others just RCA/Cinch and then ODI and CoAx digital. The DAC in my 4K BD player or the DAC in my Denon X4500 is OK for music. It depends on how fussy you are.

XM3 still work fine from release

Really nice sounding headphones once EQ'd through the Sony app. Found them really flat out of the box.

    • Agree. EQ plays a huge part - once you get it right though, they are very good. I use these for usually 2-5 hours per day. My only qualm is the band seems to hurt after a few hours, but that's about it.

      • I see. When I listened at a shop, the sound is rather dull and muddy.

  • They are great headphones, but I couldn't imagine buying them for almost 500 bucks. Refurbs from sony ebay when they on sale definitely the way to go

    • It has been a while since last time they put them on discount on ebay. Sony was excluded when last time 22% off on refurblished items. Doubt they will still do that low?

  • I paid $389 from TGGC. This was a couple years ago.

    • They have not been released for a couple of years lol

Sorry my bad, i'm living 1yr ahead of the present moment. Paid $389 back in January 2023*

        Better? :-)

  • Terrible deal considering these have been available for around $400 quite a few times in last 12 months.

I paid $375 for my pair.

  • $436 eBay Sony AU. 28/02/24. Would like to have waited a little longer but needed them. I think I had a $30 eBay Plus voucher and Sony had stuff on sale.

  • From $548 to $475

Not sure they were ever sold at RRP at Amazon. I got them on 4 March for $489.

    $410 from eTrade https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/235255740123 with MAR17.

  • Be warned if you have a Samsung TV, these may not connect via bluetooth to the TV. I picked up the CH-720N model thru recent ozbargain deal and sure enough no BT connection to my samsung (well it connects then crashes immediately). THANKFULLY it does connect to my Nvidia Shield but still some annoyance bc cant use TV remote for headphone volume.

There is a samsung community forum post regarding this: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/QLED-and-The-Frame/Samsu… as well as a public article: https://www.t3.com/news/sonys-best-wireless-headphones-might…
