TheAviator1992 on 01/11/2012 - 19:58 ¶Hmm, what's that network adapter thing it wants me to add when I install?
TheAviator1992 on 01/11/2012 - 20:05 ¶so if I uninstall the program, the adapter should uninstall too? I've used VPNs before but none said anything about an adapter

easternculture on 01/11/2012 - 20:22 ¶maybe its got to do with peak/off peak times or something
post a speed test result
People who claim during their free promo periods use different servers to their premium members. Their free promo servers are basically demo servers because they have free subscription promos a few times a year.
Speeds won't get too much better than what they are now - I've been using the free prepaid subscriptions to CyberGhost for the past 2-3 years but rarely use it anymore.
wholesaleturbos on 02/11/2012 - 08:40 ¶whats your normal dl speeds.
Or more importantly what is it reducing you to?
Ferkin Tight on 01/11/2012 - 20:25 ¶Just tested on UK server. First time I've watched UK TV in ages. Thanks OP.

Ferkin Tight on 01/11/2012 - 20:34 ¶338ms Ping, 1.36Mbps Download, 1.25Mbps Upload. The image showed me as being in London…
+1 votePlasticSpaceman on 01/11/2012 - 20:34 ¶Neat. Thanks, OP. I expect it won't be super fast, but can't argue about the price!
+3 votesFinally I can get PvZ from this deal. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79619

+2 votesThe application that it directs you to download is a windows program, but in theory it should also work with Mac OS X (and Linux and Android, but I don't have either of those to test). You just have to download Tunnelblick and get the configuration files from the CyberGhost support site. I say "in theory" though because I haven't yet been able to get it to connect successfully.
Any Mac users had any luck?
+1 voteThere are instructions for Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Windows here:
http://cyberghostvpn.com/page/software.php
Looks like Mac uses a modified version of OpenVPNEdit: Having problems authorising to the various VPN servers, anyone else having the same problem?

+1 voteFrom CyberGhost website (http://cyberghostvpn.com/page/account.php?openvpn when logged in):
To use the OpenVPN access to CyberGhost VPN you need to have a valid premium serial activated.
Free and promotion accounts are not able to connect to CyberGhost VPN using OpenVPN.:(
easternculture on 01/11/2012 - 21:12 ¶your 12 months subscription starts when u activate the key
theoretically, get as many keys as you want and activate one every year

+1 votegrab_ur_freebies on 01/11/2012 - 21:07 ¶Mostly use it to watch online tv from other countries (of which access to otherwise blocked due to AU IPs).
+1 voteeasternculture on 01/11/2012 - 21:07 ¶VPN = looks like your internet connection is from a different IP address from a different country depending on what server you connect to
+1 voteVPN is Virtual Private Network and it only relates to where the traffic goes (or how it is routed)
Normally [you] ——> [website/whatever]
VPN [you] ——> [VPN Provider] ——> [website/whatever]This way it looks like the VPN provider is accessing whatever you are doing on the net and it is their IP that gets logged etc
+1 votethey would tell you yes, but personally I wouldn't, especially a company unknown to me and at this price tag, by using a VPN they could see all your data (and some would argue but so does your ISP without a VPN)
edit: of course banking sites etc would be encrypted and through normal use I don't think they could steal your details/money but in the age of weak/bogus security certificates it doesn't hurt to be paranoid.

ProspectiveDarkness on 01/11/2012 - 22:31 ¶There will be an inquest into this at the next National OzBargain Assembly, don't you worry.
+1 voteMichael15286 on 01/11/2012 - 22:54 ¶Don't worry!
All you have to do is scroll up to the deal title.
There should be a tab underneath labelled "votes".
Click on it, then click "revoke"!
Done!

It's probably better to watch Comedy Central shows through this method as you won't suffer from potential VPN bottlenecks.
besmirched on 01/11/2012 - 22:44 ¶I've tried modify headers in the past but it didnt work for me.
edit.. I tried again and it does work, thx for the tip.

wheeliekegman on 01/11/2012 - 23:01 ¶Done - Thanks, a bit slower than expected but my first attempt at a VPN so I am happy to give it a try!

grab_ur_freebies on 02/11/2012 - 10:57 ¶Thats actually a good idea, though it would also reduce the throughput of the WAN conn. to all PCs in your LAN. Right?
Crownanchor on 02/11/2012 - 00:27 ¶We have an interesting demographic of voters voting on this deal :-)

steve.rand on 02/11/2012 - 07:00 ¶I don't have a CNET account, but I hit the "buy" link and it asked for an email address and name, that was it. Licence appeared on the next screen.
+1 voteDigitalJade on 02/11/2012 - 08:16 ¶You need to click 'buy it now' on the CNET Website, not directly with cyberghost.
This is a good deal, awesome.
+3 voteshttps://cyberghostvpn.com/en/product/server_status.html
Looks to have 8 Russian servers.

reply to myself - I ended up finding the answer, haven't tried it though: "Any OpenVPN client should work in Linux with Cyberghost. You need to have a paid subscription in order to use the "native" OpenVPN Support. Log into the account management center and you'll find a section "OpenVPN" where you can download instructions and configuration files for LInux/android etc."
