Cheap TV but I'd rather Android over Tizen all day every day.

    • +5

Google Chromecast TV Stick can do that for you.

I’d rather a non-smart TV over any of them.

Edit: Reason for the vote downs? Smart TVs are dumb. The specs are always under powered so the UX is slow and sucks and the software support normally runs out before the panel.

Compared to a non-smart TV where you can get what ever streaming device you want and upgrade it independently from the TV when ever you want.

And I’m not the only one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/835084

One issue is those devices usually use wifi and the TV can do LAN ethernet.

        • -1

          Adapter

          • @Paul B: Yeah I guess if your smart TV is low end / old that would be an option.

            • @Budju: I haven't needed one but some adapter ratings look OK

            • +1

@Budju: ‘High end’ smart TVs are still shit compared to an AppleTV or Android ShieldTV.

              Both also have Ethernet.

@PainToad: My LG oleds seem to be doing just fine. I won't ever be buying one of those ridiculous shield devices for $300. And apple, nuff said. In the use case of a $500 TV spending 200 to 300 on a streaming device is also bonkers.

                • @Budju: A Fire TV 4K Max for $60 on special would most likely also blitz your LG “smart” TV. But you do you.

                  • @PainToad: Yeah, a fire TV with an adapter. That's basically what we discussed before the shield suggestion came up.

  • Hey gents, i m interested in the TV, but i dont have an edu acc, have you all know how I could create an edu account?

Do they deliver to most places?

They say they won't deliver to my area. I don't recall last time anywhere refused my location.

    • They seemingly don't deliver to the several hundred thousand people that live west of the Blue Mountains in NSW, I contacted them and they said they were trying to find a courier to service over half of NSW.. That was six months ago. Still nothing on their website and none of the postcodes I tried are listed on the page in their 'undeliverable' list. Never had an issue with Dell, Sony, Lenovo, or literally anyone else..

I can't believe how cheap these quality big screens have become.

I FOMOed on a Kogan screen a few years ago and regretted it ever since. Never buy Kogan (lesson learned the hard way)

    • any reason why?

      • +1

The TV was advertised as being HDR, which it lacked when any peripherals (in my case PS4) was connected it was not detected as being as such.

The Kogan rep was belligerant, raised their tone and basically told me to go f*** myself. Would not accept a return. I should have contacted the ACCC in retrospect.

After a search on the internals of the TV I found out it was a very cheap Chinese brand with 'Kogan' logo slapped on.

Had another experience when I bought the Agora (Kogan phone). It was slow/lagging out of the box. Just sucked it up and used it as a learning lesson.

If 45% off RRP, is it not supposed to be $440?

  • Does this Samsung TV have problems with wifi? I've owned a Samsung Tizen smart TV where the wifi keeps dropping out and disconnecting. looking the problem up. Found many people having same problems with there Samsung tv's.

  • might stack with $25 voucher from https://coupons.nine.com.au/samsung

  • Bugger, got it for $645 through the Samsung store app after stacking discount codes and I thought that was a good price.

    • +1

It is a good price, just sometimes there will be other better deals.

I purchased a 55" Samsung tv in late 2019. Originally the "RRP" was $1995 (dropping down to $1295, then $1195 etc), but the tv was on sale for $995, ended up buying it for $795 after simply asking if they could do better on that price. What's interesting to me is that the equivalent model today (this very one CU8000) is still holding its value, only having to go above 65" to be paying a higher price.

I'm looking at finally migrating over to a new tv in the future - but I'm not 100% sold on OLED/QLED etc etc. Yet it if stick with the base model (such as the CU8000) I miss out on the updated HDMI ports (compared to my current tv) and a few other bells & whistles.

    • Larry d what discount codes?

      • Had a 15% off code from a while back plus a further 5% off your first purchase by using Samsung Store app. Just ask live chat nicely for a discount code to purchase a Samsung tv and they might give you one. Also there's a trade in $100 off your current tv I think 55 inch and above.

        • Thanks mate

    • +6

"A bit extra" … recommends $2000-3000 tv over $549.45 TV

      • Well it''ll last much longer and features and tech will not be out date next 2 years u wombat.
Plus they wont that much for any longer when new models come in

  • Great price for the size

  • 2024 model out late March with HDR support.

  • Time to replace the 50" Dick Smith FHD methinks.

  • Does anybody know if samsung gives out the welcome $50 vouchers anymore?
Would appreciate it if anybody has one to spare

  • The mods must all be on holiday. Fix the tags.

    • There's a report button and you haven't reported it…

      • Ok I just did. Also reported your face.

  • Strange….no deal available on the 50" at the Samsung EDU store online? Only discounts on the 43" and 55". Anyone else see this or am I missing something?
