it's basically a JBL Charge/Bose soundlink flex/Uboom L size speaker. the slim shape of the speaker means it can more easily slip in and out of your travel bag compared to a rounded shape like the JBL Charge. also looks like it would be more stable when standing compared to the Bose flex which kind of looks like it might fall over easily from the wind.

    Sounds good…
But, is a 30W Anker enough for a picnic?

      Yes.

probably not. it will probably get loud enough, but in open space there won't be much satisfying bass output at maximum volume imo.
but then again I recently read a comment that said they were disappointed with the JBL boombox 3 (both sound and battery which ran out in 3 to 4 hours).

it's hard to get good sound when in open space such as at a picnic. any setup really needs a wall to make bass output more efficient. if anything for a decent experience outdoors in general I would probably recommend the Bose S1 Pro it's not cheap though at $600.

      • any setup really needs a wall to make bass output more efficient.

Or just setup up near some bushes…

        • +3

bushes won't do it. but placing it in front of some hard surfaces such as eskies and surfboards etc will help to direct and amplify the sound.
tbh though I would use speakers this size for personal listening (just you or a friend or two) at close distances. and together with that the audio experience will be better indoors where close distances to walls will reinforce the bass to the point of being impressive.

just speaking from experience with a similar sized speaker over a few years now and moving it around indoors. I can move it from the edge of my bed near the wall, to the opposite side of the bed (almost the centre of the room) and notice a huge drop in bass output. outdoors at a picnic with no sound reinforcement from walls it will straight up sound "tinny".

For small outdoor gatherings on a budget I would seriously consider this one's big brother. The Soundcore Motion Boom

Great bass and overall sound. Waterproof too.
Also on sale at a good price at the moment.

      • That is still a 30W Anker

Although it claims: "24 Hours of Playtime"

soundcore just released the Boom replacement in the US the 80w Boom 2 https://www.amazon.com/soundcore-Subwoofer-Waterproof-Floata…

so a clearance price for the Motion boom might be coming soon, or not.. Anker seems to think australia doesn't need all their new releases and continues to try to sell their older model powerbanks etc for high prices. I guess if australians keep buying them there's no reason to release anything new. 😀
