I was with AGL until Feb.
They refuse to lower their rates in 2024 when others do.
So I change to CovaU, they are 20% cheaper than AGL in my area.
You still get $50 bonus for referral

Always compare and do your own maths, an easy way is do it is by Excel.

    • Changed to Nectr just over a year ago from AGL. They tried to keep me with a $100 credit when I changed, but it still worked out cheaper with Nectr for me back then

Nothing wrong with a business not wanting to lower their prices. Entitlement

      And you can always churn.

    • +1

AGL rates are terrible, just switch to them get your free couple months and churn away

    • This so many blindly pay obscene rates to AGL/EA, 'just cos'.

  • -6

How are the rates compare with Energy Aust in NSW please?

have a look and tell us.

Netflix Standard with ads included (upgrade anytime)

with ads included at no extra cost!!!!

rates aren't too bad for S.E.Q.

    usage: 29.524 c/kWh
    Solar feedin: 5c/kWh
    Supply charge: 122.694 c/day

$150 is credit on the first bill

I compared electricity plans last night for the hills area, nsw via the gov comparison website.

Cheapest plan came for my NMI was from Red energy with their time based tariff. AGL was not far behind and with the $150 offer, it may be on par.

However, when visited the AGL website, there was no time based plan and the rates listed were bit lower than the gov site. This looks to be the cheapest option than Red Energy.

Might need to call both and confirm.

just be careful using comparison websites…
you need to KNOW your useage, else it 'assumes' on the low side…
ideal if you also know your fees

Here's mine for last quarter (it's high)

      USE (kWh)
      PEAK 544.725
      Shoulder 989.283
      Off Peak 281.14
      Controlled 499.862
      Service 0.91
      FIT -1745.157
      Discount 16

  • Netflix HD with ads $6.99
    Netflix HD no ads $16.99
    Netflix 4k no ads $22.99

so presumably brings HD down to $10 & 4k to $16

But $7/mth off my bill isn't much of a sweetener. Going by their (inaccurate) estimate it's 4.5%
Still more expensive then Energy Australia before my 14% bill discount.

Careful - I recently switched to AGL,
They did a classic 'Bait and switch'

Did all the relevant data entry onto the website, had my last quarter's bill.
    called up

    got my rates VERBALLY,
I'd knocked up a spreadsheet from my last bill, and for every energy provider in my area (Central coast, Ausgrid)
showing a $100 saving every quarter, slightly better than Red Energy EV Saver……..

A couple of days later I received my 'Welcome to your new AGL Plan' email at 4:23AM,
    then 6:06 AM…….

    "Important changes to your pricing"
"sorry, we didn't know how your meter was configured" (untrue, they had my NMI and existing bill details)

That email jacks everything up…….reducing savings by nearly 2/3rds…

Still, it's cheaper though overall than Energy Australia, will see how it goes and swap out another time
last quarter's Energy Australia bill was $724 (includes a $100 credit for them playing around with controlled load timings)
with Ausgrid, on the phone those rates would have been $590…
BUT, they gave ex GST prices over the phone, pushing it up to $$650
with the new AGL rates, it would have been $675, a $50 saving…
    PLUS there's this $150 bonus!!

Red Energy EV Saver would have been $665 last month

Going forward, charging EV at night, AGL's Off peak is 21c per kWh vs Energy Australia's nearly 27c…so that's where the bigger savings will come heading into winter

  • For gas only, If I switch to AGL, I'll be paying at least $50 more per month, for summer month… Be careful and do your own research….

Thanks OP. I saw the Netflix deal on FB before but without the $150 credit. With $30 from ShopBack as well, this seems to be a no-brainer until another credit offer comes long! We’re entering into the winter months so the lowered 6c FIT wouldn’t hurt as much too.

Is this open to those who signed up to this offer? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823737
I changed over to simply energy soon after the Mastercard deal who were offering $200 credit. My account is still almost $200 in credit but happy to change over to this as long as I don’t lose my credit with simply energy and I get the AGL credit.

    • I just signed up with the AGL, giving $100 gift card instead of $200. Better than nothing.

Still rates are on par with the cheapest I got and much cheaper than Powershop, who I’m with now.

  • Someone had free electricity between 12-3pm or somewhere around that time.

    Is that deal still on?

    • Yup, that's Ovo Energy's the Free 3 plan https://pages.ovoenergy.com.au/the-free-3-plan
The usage rates are higher than their other plan though to make up for it.

    • suggest you knock up a small spreadsheet using your last couple of bills, then apply the new rates to your old bills to see if you'd have saved.
I tried, and I couldn't draw enough 'free' power to justify the higher useage charges, my bill would have been more expensive, even if I used up as much energy as i could pull fromt he grid in the free period!

You also get the AGL credit without Netflix, there's a cheaper plan

    AGL Value Saver - 18%
    less than the Reference Price

Tried to sign up and noticed this message :

"Please note: You will be connected with AGL when the current billing cycle ends with your existing retailer."

Really … ? I've just recently got my bill so does that mean i need to wait almost 3 months before they can connect me? The last time i switched to my current supplier it took days not months!

  • When do they pay out the $200?

    • Mine was showing immediately in the app once switched over.
