good to see Acer is still continuing this popular product line.
Hopefully the Ryzen 7 model has 32 GB RAM.

    • It doesn't. I've been watching a lot of laptop reviews (from USA creators). Laptops with 32 GB RAM are always downgraded to 16 GB for the Aus spec, along with a big price increase.

      • -3

"downgraded for Aus spec" - can you elaborate?

why would only having 16gb be 'Aus-spec'?

      • I gave up waiting and decided to pull trigger on Onexplayer 2 pro which has 32gb ram, 1tb ssd and Ryzen 7 8840u for around $1,600. Should be coming next week.

  • +7

    Nice, replaces the 7640U model

Acer are now officially taking over with the Swift Go and Nitro 5 / V lines

Sharp prices at launch, quality stock displays and switching to Officeworks rather than supporting the sinking ship that is Hardly Normal

  • +3

    copilot key

    • +3

Well spotted. At least you can easily remap it with the Keyboard Manager in PowerToys

  • +2

    those 2 USB C are usb 4

    • Does that mean it supports eGPU? USB4 comaptible with Thunderbolt 3?

  • +4

Thanks got the Ryzen 7 model, gonna return my Air M3. So good that these fairly priced laptops come with OLED high refresh rate screens!

    • tabg? maybe i'll have to buy this acer off you too eventually lol.

  • +1

Hows the chassis build quality? Looks very metal enough?

    • +1

I picked up a i5 13th gen one cheap of FB Marketplace a few weeks ago and overall the build quality is quite nice. Not as good as the older XPS 13 i was replacing but the price difference makes up for it.

      • +2

May I know how much u paid fb? Am also planning to get second hand

  • +1

$300 just for the cpu upgrade seems expensive.

    • +3

It means you get Radeon 780M graphics over 760M, but I agree, not worth the extra $300 for a thin and light laptop.

  • +1

woulda happily paid 1,297 for the better CPU with 32gb of ram.

  • -1
    • +3

No OLED, much worse CPU, laughably bad battery.

      • much worse CPU

actually understating it. AMD's intentionally confusing naming scheme is really paying off for shareholders

        • +1

They definitely are doing intentionally confusing naming conventions but the CPU for the Costco one is still a Zen 3 while the one above is a Zen 4 (even though AMD is wanting people to believe that the Costco one is a Zen 4 and the other one is a Zen 5).

  • is there still a stigma attached with Acer laptop like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/830789 and this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836531 ?
Or has it improved with the new product line?
In the market for a new laptop and is tempted by the specs and low price

  • +1

Or wait for Asus Zenbook 14 oled next sale, always got impression Asus build qualities are better than Acer?

    • no. they both have too many product segments targeting every $200 difference in "build quality" that makes no sense.

some deals are better/worse, but there's no general rule.

      • I cannot speak for Asus, but my experience with Acer is that their budget lines will favour higher internal hardware specs. If they have to compromise itll usually be either the screen or build quality, or both.

        • more like thermal performance.

    • +1

you wouldn't get top of the line mobile laptop specs for this price point with Asus. You'd be looking at paying near 800-1k more.

    • +1

      This

  • Is this better than https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-vivobook-15-oled-m1505-ryz…
Bought it from center com yesterday. Not picked yet.

    • +1

Yes, newer cpu and gpu, higher refresh rate. From a quick glance at the specs.

    • I'd swap if you don't mind a smaller laptop.

    • -1

If it's with a 7735U then will be even better

  • +5

Brand name laptop with OLED panel under $1000, I am sure its not the only one but thats pretty impressive still right? let alone the rest of the actually decent specs. Im guessing the build quality is average based on previous budget Acer experiences.

  • Couldn't find much info on the battery but the Acer store suggests 65Wh.

  • Would get this just for basic editing/everything else

  • WiFi 7?? I just bought a 6 router.

    I can't keep up.

    • i think its 6E, don't know wht its saying 7

      • New version has WiFi 7

  • CPU much better than the R5 6600U? Thinking of upgrading. Very hard to find a comparison.

  • Hows this compare to Lenovo Slim 5
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/839329

    • Better CPU on the Lenovo but the Acer has a higher res and refresh rate screen, WiFi 7 instead of 6E, 1440P Camera

      • You can opt for the same CPU and they cost about the same. Personally, I wouldn't care for a 16" laptop without a dGPU and you're looking at twice the pixel density in the Acer which is further enhanced by it's 14" size.

        • +1

Thanks looks like also the USB4 on this is better than Lenovo. Not sure about build quality/feel though.

          • +2

@Xc01567: I have both the Acer Swift Go and the Ideapad Pro 5 14" (share lots of characteristic with the slim)

The Lenovo chassis is built better but the machine is heavier too.
However the keyboard of the Lenovo is extremely mushy and the directional keys are terrible to work with.
The touchpad on the Lenovo is marginally better.
The Acer OLED screen is nicer

  • I want this screen sooo bad but I don't think I can give up the apple silicon battery life.

    • I’m giving up my M3 for this, I have an anker power bank so problem somewhat solved. OLED is just so much nicer, and the Mac’s displays being IPS LCD still better than most windows laptop is just showings its age at this point.

      • Hmmmm
Tempting as could sell the M2 for more than this. But I'm enjoying macOS much more than I thought I would and it's for Uni so I don't want to lug a power bank around. Hope you enjoy it though!

    • AMD Zen 4 is pretty efficient so it's probably not going to be a huge deal for most people.

  • Thanks to the OP. Just bought one of this deal from OfficeWorks at Parafield. Not even on display there yet (Intel version was).
Updating a 2018 built Acer Swift Go (SF114) that had Intel Pentium and 4GB RAM. Really liked it so going again…

  • Processor compared to Ryzen 7 5800H ?

    • +1

At least +50% Single Thread. Multi Thread +20-50%

      • And graphics much better?

        • +2

+100% better, AV1 codec decode and encode in GPU. This generation also has an NPU for AI acceleration.

    • This is a Hawkpoint CPU (eg Zen 4 with 16 TOPS AI engine, but 6 cores).

5800H is a Cezanne CPU (eg Zen 3, with 8 cores)

Personally I'm waiting for Strix Point of Strix Halo.

  • So, this is normal RRP? Maybe worth waiting for a bargain?

    • +1

      Below RRP saved $200
Still an excellent pricing, no competition up to this date.

  • +1

Saw this deal and picked one up nearby for my dad who needed a new one. Pretty nice machine. It will do everything he wants on it without any problems and it's a decent size. Great screen. Obviously it's not some total premium product, but I'm quite impressed. Thanks OP.

  • This looks great, I'd get this if I didn't already have my 5600H/3050 gaming laptop.

  • Recently bought a display model of the older model, did a change of mind return and got this one instead.

So much better than the older model, specially the speakers (still not loud enough though)

    • I've got the previous model and I really like it. Other than the speakers, it's there anything else that is a noticeable improvement?

      • 100w charging brick and faster charging. I haven't used it enough yet but it just feels more refined. Keyboard feels better, display still as nice if not better. Could be just a placebo effect.

Unless straight swap is an option like my scenario, I wouldn't have bothered getting the new one. It's just subtle improvements.

        • Having a bit of FOMO as I only picked mine up 6 weeks ago 😂

  • Assuming 2x8GB installed?

  • -4

Seems like a good deal, but do these Acer Swift Go laptops still have throttling and fan noise issues?

I tried one of the older gen laptops during Black Friday, and the bottom heated up too easily, even during idle. Granted, the i5-13500H probably wasn't the optimal CPU for optimal temps. Will this laptop be any better?

    • How was that other acer in games if you play any? Also was battery life okay like at least 5 hours?

    • +1

      As above

You had a Swift X, not a Swift Go

Will this laptop be any better?

Did you check the specs on the X before buying?

      45W i5-13500H with 95W max turbo
      50W RTX 3050 Mobile with 10W idle
High res, high refresh OLED panel
      Plus everything else

All powered by a 100W AC adapter

  • 2 x USB 3.2, 2 x USB-C (supports data, display and power delivery), 1 x HDMI

Can anyone confirm this means three external monitors at the same time?

    • +1

Believe so based on what I have read.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Specs are wrong on the Acer page. Says IPS touch screen.

    https://store.acer.com/en-au/swift-go-14-windows-11-home-and…

  • +1

Would be all over this if it was touchscreen!

    • +2

Any particular reason why you’d want a touch screen laptop other than the obvious touch screen loI. I feel like the smudges on a laptop would drive me nuts!

  • Hi gang, is there any gift card that can be used at officeworks? I just called one of their stores and they told me the coles gift card no longer works?!

    • Making a huge bet here but I'm guessing Officeworks gift card works there

      • Haha that doesn't have a 3% discount though

  • +4

Wow got this in today as it’s a great laptop!
    1. Great OLED display.
    2. The build quality, I was expecting an aluminium chassis, feels premium for the price. And I kinda like this gray ish looks better than the last version which I also had in silver.
    3. One hand opening of the lid is great!
    4. It isn’t a Mac trackpad, but it’s good too and I’m pre sure it’s glass.
    5. The port selection for this size is decent.
    6. Has a camera privacy cover.
    7. Fingerprint login.

Can’t comment on batter just yet since haven’t had much time with it.

    Some things that are meh:
    1. Speakers are meh
    2. Not having 32GB pre configured or even a 1TB SSD model.
    3. Keyboard backlighting is kinda weak and the keyboard feels a bit mushy.
    4. All the stickers on the laptop.
    5. The buttload of pre installed software

    • Nice review. So it is aluminium? Sorry what is batter?

      • +1

I think it is Alu the lid is def Alu cause it’s super cold to the touch, the body also feels cold and I’m 95% sure it’s Alu but could be high grade plastic to mimic the Alu look.

        Oh I meant battery*

    • The ssd is swappable right?

      • +1

Yes, and the wifi card too. The Intel Ultra series has an extra SSD slot too, so I am assuming the Ryzen one is the same as well.

        • Damn im so tempted w this one!

        • How's performance/fan noise?

        • I ended up getting it! Totally agree with all your points, although I've had felt worse laptop keyboards in the past, so I'm super happy w/ it overall

    • Planning to get this for final year of uni to replace my 2018 Macbook air. How is the battery life on this?

  • Anyone found a manual about the hardware config?

  • +6

Got the Ryzen 7 8845HS version yesterday and had a play around with it last night. So far impressions are very positive. I'll be echoing a lot of what thesmartone1125 said above…

Screen is stunning and looks as good as the higher end OLED laptops I've checked out in store. It gets very bright at 100% brightness, but HDR leaves a lot to be desired. You can't even turn on HDR on battery so not a big deal really, and SDR looks great anyway. There's no touchscreen.

It comes with LPDDR5 at 6400Mhz, 4 dimms so I'm assuming soldered and not upgradable. The CPU is just rebadged from last gen but performance is still great. I'm getting a little over 15k multi core in Cinebench 23 plugged in and about 12.5k on battery. A tad less than what I've read around the internet. Fortunately, the laptop stays very cool and is quiet except for when on battery (even then it's not too bad). Max temp with Cinebench was around 80C but regularly stays between 55-70C. The fan turns off with light usage and idle temp is just 35C~. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the performance and cooling.

There is a 65Wh battery and it seems quite efficient. I'm getting about 7 hours with regular usage at max brightness. Turning down the brightness and doing more light activities saw Windows report 14 hours. Comes with a 100W USB-C charger.

The build quality surprised me the most. The whole laptop is cool to the touch so I'm fairly sure there's no significant plastic, although it's hard to tell nowadays. At least, it completely lacks that cheap Acer plastic look/feel and feels premium. I'd put it at the same level as the Asus Zenbook.

The webcam looks great and is 1440p. The speakers are not very loud but lack the tinny/blown out noise a lot of laptops have. Opening the lid is extremely easy and has a lip to lift it one handed.

I've yet to try the integrated graphics. I could not find a way to increase the VRAM in the BIOS. It's probably under advanced mode.

Speaking of BIOS, I saw it has 2x HDD listed so there's likely another M.2 slot.

Finally, there is a lot of Acer bloatware including Mcafee. I'll be performing a clean Windows install once I've finished my testing.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with this laptop. In hindsight I would've been happy with the Ryzen 5 version as the 780M is a bit wasted with the limited VRAM and those 6/12 cores is plenty. Insane specs and quality for a $1000 laptop.

    • Nice review Yuri & thesmartone1125!

I'm still thinking which one should I go with Ryzen 5 or 7? For an extra $300 for CPU and GPU …

      • +1

I also had the Core Ultra 7 Zenbook OLED 2024, and I can forsure say that this is better for the price. The hinge on the Zenbook OLED is wobbly, although it is touchscreen so if you want touchscreen the Zenbook is a decent option too. The hinge on this Acer is solid. LIke I know I am putting a lot of emphasis on being able to open the lid with one hand and not have the laptop rock around but it's so nice to see windows laptops that can do that.

Also Ryzen 5 vs 7 on a 14" really depends on your use case, if its just for general use just get the Ryzen 5 and save a bit of money for accessories like maybe a good mouse, or a monitor perhaps. If the $1297 Ryzen 7 came with even a 1TB or a 32GB RAM bump I would def say go get it but save the money and just get the Ryzen 5. The 780m vs 760m difference isn't massive either and I am pretty sure people looking to buy this laptop aren't buying to play games anyways.

        • If I purchased this, I 100% would be playing some games but mainly retro via emulation.

          • +1

@boxall: Oh yeah retro via emulation is fine, even AAA at lower graphics is fine as per what I have seen online. But I mean't gaming wouldn't be the first priority of people looking to buy this :) I hope not lol

            • @thesmartone1125: This will do up to PS3 easily I think. My R7-7800H does PS3 at a pinch.
