    4k ultra max?

      4K Maxi Pad

  • Nice.

  • +1

    Which one for stremio?

    • I've found the Google Chromecast 4K works well.

      • Thanks I'll look into that vs the 4k max. Not in a rush. I'll wait for a better sale.

        • Yeah definitely more powerful the better. I was having some problems with stuttering on the video but turning off the frame rate matching worked a treat for me.

Stremio is so much easier to use than all the other apps. It's as good as the Netflix one and way better than binge, Paramount etc. I'm just talking app performance anyway, not content of course (which of course varies ;)

          • @sickllama: its an all in one. think of any streaming service in one app

            • +1

@Roe Jogan: I have used stremio on 4K and 4K max with realdebrid and works like a charm!
I got two 4K max for $79 in July last year.

              • @fozzie: Do you stream to the firestick? Or is streamio installed on the firestick? Thanks

                • @Ez: Stremio is installed on Firestick. I used downloader to download stremio. Very easy to do.

        • +1

Only problem with firestick is terrible screen mirroring.

          • @Azeroth: That’s true. I also own Apple TV and I use that

      • +1

But does the chromecast allow custom apk files to be installed? If not then the fire stick / cube is superior

        • Yes l, google tv does

      4K Max

    • -1

I've got the 4K Max + VPN and my stremio is sweet 👌🏻👌🏻

      • +1

Is the lack of sport still a thing?

      • +3

Are you using a Debrid service on stremio? No need for a VPN of you are…

        • Why is a VPN not needed with Debrid?

          • +2

@Dylanwardy: Everything goes through Debrid servers and you don't torrent anything directly so no need to disguise the traffic

      • -1

hey, do the 90gb files play instantly? mine lag on the Vodaphone tv android box (2gb ram)

        • -1

Shield does the job any day

          • -1

@WwDesi: yeh i aint trying to spend 350 buck

            • -1

@Roe Jogan: $248 @ Amazon, you don't need the Pro.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: every review i watch says to skip the non pro one

                • -1

@Roe Jogan: I've had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever, but up to you.

                  • -1

@[Deactivated]: ive noticed a 10 sec video load time on stremio with my vodaphone, how long is your wait time?

                    • @Roe Jogan: That's about right, it takes between 5-10 seconds for the video to load and completely normal.

                      • -1

@[Deactivated]: ahh sheeeit than i aint missing on much with my vodaphone tv box

                        • +1

@Roe Jogan: Yeah, don't waste your money if there's nothing wrong with it.

            • @Roe Jogan: Why is your English so weird?

    • The 4K will do just fine. There's no need for the Max unless you have a Wi-Fi 6E router.

    • All, but recommend the 4k Max as it is snappier.

  • Got the lite for $19 a year ago. Works great with my work monitor at home. Watch netflix during lunch break.

  • Nice. Was going to post this - have had my eye on one and was waiting for them to go on sale again.

  • +4

With amazon's crackdown on 3rd party software and side loading I'll be looking elsewhere with my next streaming box

    • Extra $2 off at checkout on the 4K and 4K Maxx

    • Isn't it just software that changes the main UI? You can still side load stuff like Kodi and use plugins etc.

      • well Foxtel/kayo/binge doesn't work on Kodi for like 6 months now on new devices due to authentication

    • +1

Agree. I feel quite cheated. I had everything blocked with a firewall, but it still found a way to update and remove My customised UI, so who knows what else they have planned. Its really unfortunate as they have great potential. Still can sideload apps but if that changes it will be nearly useless.

    • +3

You are mistaken there is no crackdown on 3rd party software,
Recent security updates to the Fire TV's operating system broke certain apps that allowed users to bypass the Fire OS home screen and perform advanced tasks using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) capability.
There is no crack-down on side loading apps.

Amazon are intending that next year devices ship with their new Vega OS, but no talks of changes to existing devices.

Explains the upcoming firestick os change.

  • +1

It's been 4 months since the fire cube went on sale. Still holding out :(

    • It's a pretty good device.

  • does stremio work flawlessly on the max? meaning the 80-90gb files do they play instantly?

    • -1

Yes, but do you own a Wi-Fi 6E router? If not, there's no benefit to buying a Max.

      • i do own a 6 not the 6e

        • Then the 4K will do just fine.

          • @[Deactivated]: i dont think the wifi signals the penetration is strong enough through my walls, no pun intended
for example i did a speed test where the router is i get 800mbps but in another room on a 6 wifi receiver i get 350-400mbps

            • @Roe Jogan: What router do you have? That sounds about right going by the several Mesh routers I have owned in my time. Probably closer to 600 in another room. If it's a standalone router, forget it, those things are garbage if you live in anything larger than a 1-bedroom apartment (again, in my experience).

          • @[Deactivated]: Hi, can you install streamio to the firestick or do you have to cast

            • @Ez: i heard it can be side loaded but now reading a bit more looks like chromecast is the better option

            • @Ez: You can sideload the APK using the Downloader app. I would paste you a link but it'll get hidden by the mods. Google TroyPoint Stremio Firestick. His instructions are the easiest to follow.

    • That entirely depends on the service and content.
But Stremio itself performs flawlessly on event the older Firesticks, assuming you have a decent WiFi connection,

  • +3

Buy once, buy right. Get a shield pro. You wont ever need anything else.
Use projetify launcher to remove the stupid google dash garbage

    • I have 4K and 4K max in household and they are amazing for my needs

    • +2

Yep I got two shield pros best money spent…

    • +2

what i hate is, its been out of years and im afraid a soon as i buy it a new one will come out next year

      • +1

I would be very surprised if that happened, but it's not unlikely. I've had both and sold the Pro. Are they better than the Firestick? Yes. Is it hard to justify the price? Also yes.

      • i felt this way, bought one a year ago. It isnt a flawless experience. its also old asf at this point technology wise.

    • -6

The UI/UX on Firestick sucks. I would also recommend getting a more premium device like the Apple TV.

      • +2

no no no do not get apple tv if you want stremio, its not supported and no work arounds

        • I have it working just fine with Infuse on Apple TV 4K.

Edit: I use RD and Torrentio via Infuse, not Stremio itself.

          • @ringooo: but how does that work? do you have to manually search stuff up, do you get subtitles? do yo uget the sections where you can search by streamiing service. or movies/series by streaming service like explore section? if those are missing than i dont see the point

            • @Roe Jogan: Fair enough. It’s not got all of the straight-forward simplicity as Stremio.

I start watching anything on Stremio (via iPhone) and pause/stop the video. Once configured with Infuse, the video shows up immediately in Infuse as a movie/show in the ‘continue watching’ list. Works without issue. But yes, I get DV, Atmos and subtitles just fine.

              • +1

@ringooo: awwhhh man nahh that sounds horrible, your essentially chrome casting it to your tv.. ill stick to the android alternative

                • @Roe Jogan: Nah not chrome casting. Using iPhone browser to search the title you want to play, it will add that title to the play list on the TV, then you can turn off your phone if you like.

Not as convenient as native android but not justifiable to purchase one if someone already got an Apple TV.

      • +1

To pay for streaming services, sure.

    • True, but these are low cost, worried I will leave attached to the hotel TV. I take a firestick whenever I travel, just plug in to the HDMI port of the TV and single remote does it all.

  • +1

Topcashback have 10% cashback if you want to buy amazon device

    • Cheers, didn't even think to look!

  • ooh… a lite may be good for my parents. Their TV recently died and they replaced it with a 4k model. The lite may prevent them from accidentally streaming 4k content and eating through their data allowance.

So this isn't ATL? How often do the LITE variants go on sale?

    • Seems a bit silly to have a 4K TV and stream at only 1080p. Wouldnt that get a bit blurry?

      • Its not blurry. TVs are magic these days. Tested as low as 360p and still looks shockingly good. MORE than watchabe. Especially when you have to live in data caps.

    • The lite is so laggy they will double press buttons. 4k max has been the easiest thing to support my parents with.

Snappy, voice searching, logical buttons and direct access for common apps.

      • damn. not what I wanted to hear.

Until now my parents have been perfectly happy with their previous gen fire stick 4k as well. That is why I thought the fire LITE may have been at least a partial solution. They wouldn't get anxiety over trying to learn how to use something new. If it couldn't stream in 4k, they wouldnt get significantly less "bill shock".

Still, I appreciate the head up mate. Thanks for the warning.

  • +1

Cheaper on prime day and black Friday if you can wait.

  • +2

Their insistence on remaining on micro-USB is baffling.

    • Agree, 2024 and they're still using an input from 2007.

    • I guess it must be cheaper for them to manufacture these with micro-USB rather than Type-C?

      • It is, but it makes no sense when even $2 items can have USB-C and Amazon devices are far from bottom of the barrel.

  • Don’t forget 7% cash back with ShopBack

  • Does anyone else find that with the fire stick remotes, the battery cover comes off extremely easy?

    • -1

It's a very tacky remote IMO but much better than that god-awful pill shaped remote from Google. The Shield is the nicest (as you would expect).

      • shield remote is so bad. buttons are mushy, first generation of the triangular remotes battery cover kept falling and so big

        • -1

For me, the back-lit remote is priceless, but you're right, I don't love the triangular design.

    • just buy a silicone cover from aliexpress or similar for cheap - problem solved.

  • Debloat Toolbox works well.

A useful guide for retro gaming on a Fire Stick https://retrogamecorps.com/2024/03/06/amazon-fire-stick-guid…

  • I got the previous version max and it really made my tv better. The stick turns tv on and off and does the volume via CEC so I don't touch the old ugly remote any more.
With Easy Fire Tools app on android, got VLC, SteamLink and a few other things working.
Steamlink works great(Provided you take the steps to reduce your network latency. Wires all the way. Or direct hosting. WIth only downside being xbox controllers home button exiting the Steam Link app. Not all the controllers have that issue. 8bitdo works fine.
Also tried PPSSPP and it installed… but the framerates were pretty pathetic. Completely unplayable.

  • Anyone used tailscale on the 4k max with jellyfin? Works great on the fire tv Cube but don't know if I can keep holding out.

    • not tailscale but used jellyfin without an issue with 4k version. assume 4k max will be fine considering higher spec.

  • Is the 16gb variant worth it, nobody has talked about the additional space.

  • But it doesn't support Kayo 4k right?
    Also can't 'cast' to TV.
These are the deal breakers for me…

  • +1

still cannot beat this deal -

[Prime] 2x Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max for $79 ($39.50 Each) Delivered @ Amazon AU

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787379

  • unrelated to the deal but with these firesticks, Netflix app can somehow detect and block expressvpn (firestick app). If i use a normal pc with expressvpn, Netflix would never have any idea about it.
