I have visited Roberto's Ristorante Pizzeria twice, both times with a group buy voucher deal. Sometimes you are very sceptical about these deals as people have had bad experiences with food or service. But I must say that the service was impeccable and the meals were delicious.
The first time I went I had "Gnocchi Della Casa al pesto" which is traditional home made gnocchi with basil sauce and parmesan, amazing, enjoyed every mouthful. The second visit I had "Scaloppine Al Vino Bianco" which is tender baby veal in a white wine sauce, equally delicious. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We have a bunch of free tickets to the Taste of Melbourne which is happening at Albert Park from November 15-18. These tickets go for $25 (plus booking fees). The Taste of Melbourne is a festival where you can sample food from some of Melbourne's best restaurants at a fraction of the price of what you would pay in a restaurant. Additionally, there are master classes, live entertainment, as well as food and beverage samples. Here's a blurb from a couple of year's ago from Tomatom. Note that you will need to buy crowns to buy food and drinks but at least you won't have to pay an entrance fee.
How to win these tickets?
Simple. Australia is one of the most costliest places to eat out in the world. It also has some of the best food in the world. Simply tell us your story of a quality meal that you received for a good price. Perhaps it was from a group buy /voucher deal, a combination of Entertainment Book vouchers /Best Restaurants of the Australia Card, or simply you thought your meal was good value.
Here's my recent story. I bought a Groupon for the Swiss Club in Melbourne. With a lot of these voucher deals, you never know what you are going to get. I was thoroughly surprised to get a booking for a Friday night with no troubles at all. The food and service was great. We had a fantastic fondue, rösti, and some sausages as well as a nice Swiss beer. Why a Swiss meal? I was recently in Switzerland and it reminded me of some of the great meals I had there.
So post your story below.
Fine Print: Contest starts 7/11 at time of posting and ends Nov 13 12:01 AM EST. The tickets will be for various sessions (either Thursday Evening, Friday Day, or Friday Evening). The tickets are in a paper format so OzBargain will need to physically mail them to you. We will email you for your mailing address, preference of session, and number of tickets. The tickets will be limited to 2 per winner but depending on the number of entries, this may be extended. We plan to send all of the tickets out on Nov 13, so be please respond quickly.

My husband and I have just moved to Richmond and found a delightfully yummy Thai restaurant [Krua Thai] just on Bridge Rd. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, the servers are lovely and helpful and the food is pleasantly authenticity to real Thai cuisine.
With very reasonable prices, we were not expecting that outstanding quality and service that we receive time and time again with every visit. I would highly suggest the Prawn Tom Yum, Spicy Papaya Salad, with Panang Curry as a main. You will not be disappointed!
If you're going to visit on a Friday or Saturday, it's best to book ahead as this tasty restaurant fills up quick!
I booked a table at MoVida for my wife's birthay and thought its gonna be an over priced fancy restuarant in the city. But its for her birthday so what the heck. It turns out to be one of the best experience we both had. The quality of food is amazing, the skills and thought that goes into each dish is unbelievable. It opened a new world of taste to us. Now we would try one of these fine dining restuarants once a month. Its expensive but you only live once !
When I booked a table for 5 people at Mr. Hive Kitchen & Bar, I had some reservation. After all Mr. Hive took on the old address of Ramsay's maze which we didn't particularly enjoyed. Luckily we were pleasantly surprised. The service was great. The staff was knowledgeable, available when you need them and yet not intrusive. We went with the 4-course set menu. The food was dynamic and full of flavour. While the dishes had some unusual tastes and combination, they were not too creative for the less adventurous diners. The portion was very generous as well. Even better was the discount that came with the Entertainment card. I hope to return soon to try the dessert bar…
Great entries everyone. I tried to book a table at Movida on a couple of occasions a few years ago but each time I called I was told it's a 2 week wait to book a table. Gave up on eating there.
I just received the tickets in the mail. The session options are Thursday evening (5:30PM-9:30PM), Friday afternoon (12PM-4PM), or Friday night (5:30PM-9:30PM).
I've had some shockers via group buying - but one was stand-out good. The deal was this one: http://cudo.com.au/melbourne/opa-enjoy-a-four-course-dinner-…
When I checked out the voucher, my new cudo account included $10 credit, so it was $34 for a 4 course meal for two. My bargain senses were tingling.
Anywho, we went mid-week in August. It was pretty dead in the place, we were the only ones in there for the first half hour. But we were treated like family friends, like they were waiting for us and happy to have us there. The voucher was taken happily, no guilt trip, no sub-service. The courses were generous - though we filled up on the breads included in the first course (rookie mistake) and were pretty full by the time we got to the amazing mixed meats, and we could hardly get dessert down, so we bagged it for later.
Apart from the generosity in serving size, they just made us feel good for being there, rather than that we were scumming. We felt really welcomed. I've walked past and seen that it is much busier at the weekend, so I'm not sure if the service is a little less personal. But even on a Tuesday, we didn't feel like we were being kicked out or anything so they could close early.
Given that it came down to $17 per person for SO much great food (fresh salads, juicy seafood, tasty meat, though like a lot of Greek places, a bit liberal in the salt) it was a definite bargain for us. And not one we were made to feel guilty about. So that was just darn great.
I love a good steak, and the best value steak house in Melbourne is Stefan's on Whitehorse Road, Balwyn. For approximately $70 you get a cut of steak cut straight off the cow, an entree of their home made sausages, two salads, chips, sauces and a choice from their dessert menu. Stefan personally selects the best cuts of meat which are on display, and cooks to order on his grill. In addition to the menu being great value for money, Stefan is a great host and makes you feel very welcome. The restaurant is BYO for wine, which allows you to enjoy that bottle of wine you have been saving for a great meal. Love this place for value and hospitality from the owner.
I love getting freshly roasted single origin coffee from Beans and Bagels using my entertainment vouchers as I receive a 50% discount on purchases.
Well it's not just restaurants that charge a fortune these days. If you just want a decent takeaway meal you're up for $15-$20 per person these days. Grill'd, I mean seriously, how much do you want to charge for a burger these days!! When I say decent I dont mean McDonalds or KFC etc, but somewhere that has decent quality food.
The recent EatNow^ promotion made my dinner for the night extremely good value. The reason I say it was extremely good value is because it was almost free :). The offer was for $10 off any meal if you pay by paypal. So I went on and entered my postcode 3121 (Richmond VIC) and found "Detour" was included but what sealed the deal was that they had a 25% discount promo for your first order from them. So I ordered a "Off The Road" burger $8.60 and a large chips $5.00, normally totalling $13.60. With the 25% off it brought it down to $10.20 and with the $10 off paypal deal i ended up paying $0.20!!!
20 minutes later my stomach was full and my wallet was still full as well :P
I recently bought a couple of Delivery Hero vouchers for $10 which has a value of $30 in total. I spent it on a free pizza delivery at Nandos Pizza in Eltham one night as it was nearing it's expiry date. I wished I had bought more of the vouchers as it was definitely a great offer deal. Not only was it a great value voucher, I was really impressed with the quality and quantity of food from Nando's pizza. I ordered the nanda special pizza, chicken and mushroom and vegetarian pizza. I love all the pizza's especially the chicken and mushroom. They all h have a very good sauce, lots of cheese and generous toppings. The mushrooms are fresh - not out of a tin. The pizza was chocked full of fresh ingredients and tasted wonderful. I ended up paying $16 for three pizzas delivery to my door. Great value great taste. I have since been back there again twice to get takeaway enough though without the vouchers I would normally pay about $30 for two family size piza.
Aunty dumplings in Carnegie serves my fav fried dumplings. Cheap and tasty perfect balance of quality and price. Need to line up if you go during peak periods, but worth the wait if you are into dumplings.
Rose Garden near Victoria Market in the city is my favourite good value Malaysian Chinese cafe.
From the roast duck and pork offerings, to the signature fried chicken ribs on rice, or my favourite - the seafood fired noodles, everytime I go, I always leave satisfied.
The service is prompt (but don't expect to be fussed over, they are far too busy for that), there's free hot tea when dining in and a tenner is all I need for a great meal - little wonder there is always a queue at lunch and dinner from the nearby student population who are budget-conscious but crave a good feed.
It's places like this that makes Melbourne the food capital of Australia.
My girlfriend and I were struggling to find a place that we had not eaten at previously within the area that we live in - western suburbs of Melbourne. Somebody posted on here about a great deal at one of the eateries at Yarraville via ScoopOn. It was a pizza and pasta dining and we loved good pizza.
We bought the deal and enjoyed one of the most amazing pizza experiences that I can remember. The place is called Mad Moose - http://www.madmoose.com.au/ - we enjoyed gourmet pizza as well as their perfect dessert pizzas including the Pavlova Pizza. Just beautiful!
We ended the evening by enjoying a movie at the historic Sun Theater only a short walk from Mad Moose.
Once again OzBargain delivered - a perfect anniversary.
Being a huge fan of creme brûlée, I was stoked to have been in Paris a few yeas back with a friend who was equally obsessed. We were there for a week and hunted every corner of the city for the dessert but to no avail. Not one cafe we tried the first four days served the dessert.
On the rainy fifth day, coming back from a late dinner we took two wrong turns and found ourselves in a small side street off the Champs Élysées. Wanting to get out of the rain, we popped into a little cafe where, lo and behold, creme brûlée was on the menu. Needless to say, we ordered a serve each. It came with sprigs of fresh mint and some grapes. It was heaven.
The next evening, we tried to track it down again but not having remembered which streets we took, we couldn't find the cafe. We left a day after that and haven't been back since. We have also not been able to find creme brûlée that is as good.
Sensational meal at Chin Chin
I've wanted to go to Chin Chin for many, many months, it's a modern Australian restaurant with Thai and Vietnamese influence, you can't make a booking and just have to come in (early!!!) and wait! and boy was it worth the wait!!!! It’s designed so that you share everything so it’s quite social and is really a dining experience without costing you an arm and a leg. Easily the most amazing sashimi i've ever had, the king fish was so tender with a beautiful lemon grass sauce, we also got pork rolls that you roll up yourself filled with shredded pork, vegies and yummy sauce – very entertaining to do it yourself! After we shared a jungle curry which was incredibly spicy (as expected and warned by the waitress ;) ) but the beef was so tender and the charcoal flavour came through the curry. And last but not least was ice cream with coconut sago (exactly what you need after a spicy meal!) delicious!
Overall not only an amazing feast but an unforgettable experience also!
Worth spoiling yourself at least once in a while :)Best burger near work is "Strange Wolf", it is an underground bar near the corner of Collins and Exhibition Street. The mushroom burger is highly recommended, and there is a lot of different European beers to accompany your meal. A great spot for dinner, found it quite interesting to see the world in a different perspective, watching all these feet walking hurriedly away, from the windows that looks out to the pavement. Time seems to stand still while you dine and watch the rest of the world passes.
I love trying new places to eat. Every Friday, my partner and I try a new place for dinner, it doesn't have to be fancy or expensive as long as we enjoy it.
Just last week, we tried Aura Cafe/Restaurant in Templestowe.
I have this thing where I like to try the carbonara everywhere I go. I have to say I was surprised with the carbonara at Aura. For $15 I was expecting it to be the usual overly creamy mix that one would expect from a family dining place, but no. It was light on the sauce but extremely flavoursome!I left with a very satisfied stomach and the wallet didn't take a big hit for it!
My wife and I went to Bistro Du Monde in Melbourne using a Spreets voucher. We loved the food, it was sensational, I just wish I had more! We had lentil soup, as well as a couple of fish dishes. The desserts were amazing.
The ambience was great - it's a very small place, but cosy and the decor was fun. I would recommend it as one of those spots you take an interstate visitor to and relax (as we have done).
Hello everyone,
I have arrived in Melbourne from Europe only 10 days ago and I can confirm it: your country is very expensive. Even more so if someone suddenly puts an anti-fraud block on your card and you cannot access your overseas' funds :) So the ingredients for my more than satisfactory budget lunch in the city from a couple of days ago were mainly three: a good aussie friend, lots of luck and a travel guide. A good friend was crucial in temporarily supporting my basic financial needs(i.e. transports, beers, pocket money); the large amount of luck was evident when i willy-nilly picked a 'celestial' irish horse from the melbourne cup and invested 5 bucks on it! And the travel guide was essential in leading me to a nice and cheap veggie restaurant in the centre of melbourne. This is how i ended up spending 8.50$ at Gopal's, where i had a vegetarian curry with rice and one kofta ball + some salad. Real Oz Bargain! Made me feel very welcome to Australia. And now my mission is… taking my aussie friend to Taste of Melbourne!
One of the best meals or my go to meal is always a fresh Vietnamese Banh Mi. Without a doubt, every time I grab one at Nhu Lan there is a queue just to order your banh mi, but the wait is so worth it. With an action packed meal for a just $4, you have a crisp bread roll, fresh vegetables and flavourful meat filling and there are even vegetarian options. From chicken to pork to meatballs and even tofu, there is a banh mi for everyone and anyone. This is what Melbourne food is all about.
I thought i'd use a menulog voucher just the other week and I was pleasantly surprised with a little restaurant I found nearby, torrente restaurant. Seemed like a cliché family restaurant but the chicken pizza there was far from the norm, not only was the delivery on time and in generous proportion but the chicken pizza had actual breast fillet chicken! something a little uncommon with the fast food places in my area. It was delicious and we were all fighting over the last piece bargain for $10!
A friend recently came to Melbourne to visit and asked if we could head to La Luna Bistro for dinner, as Adrian Richardson is her favourite chef.
When we were being taken to our table, we noticed that Mr Richardson himself was in the kitchen!! We had an amazing dinner - the service was impeccable, the food wonderful (is there anything better than a steak cooked to perfection?!) and the dessert - wow!! We particularly liked the cow effect wall paper!
My friend decided to ask the waitress if he would sign something for her. She replied she'd do even better - she'd see if he was available to meet us! And he did!! We chatted in the kitchen with Adrian for about fifteen minutes, he offered to take a photo with us and signed a recipe book that my friend purchased. Then he took us upstairs to show us the in-house prosciutto drying room!! Adrian was so lovely and friendly and the night was absolutely brilliant - he even recommend a bar up the road for our post-dinner drinks.
Can't think of better value than an excellent meal and a one-on-one with the chef afterwards!!

I love going to Sapore at St Kilda Beach. It's a place you would be willing to pay full price to eat at, but with the entertainment card you Buy 1 get 1 free main meal.
The food is delicious, it's a 1 hatted restaurant (the age good food guide) with lovely atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended ESPECIALLY if you have the entertainment card.
